I needed additional views, so I returned three days later for a second mammogram of the left breast only, and it showed a nodule. I had an ultrasound the same day which showed an 8 mm benign cyst and several other subcentimeter benign cysts, some with low internal echoes (what are internal echoes?) I've been on Prempro over 10 years and understand this could be the cause of the benign cysts. For the last couple years or so I've been on a very low dose (0.3-1.5).

I am 48 yrs. old and was diagnosed with b/c in July of 2008. I have undergone a lumpectomy, chemotherepy -AC/T and radiation. I finished this course last spring. I was also on tamoxifen until about four weeks ago. I had an ooferectomy almost 2 weeks ago as a precaution, as my mother died of ovarian cancer at the age of 59. I felt great until I started Arimidex on Tuesday, and now I feel horrible.

ve done 4 injections over the past 2 years. Just a little bit of bone pain for the first 2 wks after the injection then, it goes away. That said, unfortunately, for me, my DEXA did not improve and my osteoporosis in my spine (the T-score) did not get better. Now, my doctor is sending me to a 'bone' clinic that apparently specializes in bone disorders such as osteoporosis. I have thought about this long and hard since getting my DEXA result.

My Vit D is also normal at 55 in June 09. I developed osteopenia in 2008, one year past GBS(rou-en-y). in 2009 my numbers had worsened by 5%, even with Boniva, then Fosamax. I have many of the symptoms of hyperparathyroid, most notably new dx of A-Fib in the last year. What should I do? Should I be concerned?

Other hip and spine are in the yellow zone for osteopenia. I am allergic to Bonita and Fosamax so for now trying exercise, calcium, vitamin D to combat it. My mom has it and I've been menopausal for 10 years now at the age of 43. I don't take magnesium. Should I be and what would be a good starting dose?

I have had osteopenia for many years; I have been able to rebuild my bone density by taking calcium and magnesium, but if you've already been diagnosed with osteoporosis, you might need to go on a med specifically for that. What is your current thyroid status?

I have been on Boniva for bone helath for about two years. I heard yesterday that Boniva would cause eye disorders called uveitis and sleraderma? Does this bone medicine cause eye problems? I have an eye disorder called Fuchs cornea dystrophy and have recently had cataract surgery in both eyes ;however one eye keeps feeling irritated.

Ray Oyakawa Thank you for your response. I noted that for the last several months whenever I took Boniva I had significant swelling under both eyes. Thus, when this past Sunday, 5/23 I developed the papilloma on my left lower eyelid (center) which at first seemed to have a point on top & next day became more elongated I thought Boniva. I would appreciate any feedback as to cause & what possible treatment. It, not very large & seems to be same size this first week.

) Anyway, I thought about taking 2000 mg of Vit C a day but someone told me that its bad to boost the immune system w/ MS. My concern is the DMDs suppress the immune system so you get sick easier.... What to do? Thanks!

Hi, Rita. I don't have osteoporosis, but I do have osteopenia (less than 2.5 standard deviations off). Have been treating this for many years, first with Boniva, then with Reclast. I'm way overdue for another Reclast infusion. For the last one, I didn't feel great for a day or so afterwards, but it wasn't all that bad either. I really doubt that this has anything to do with MS meds. It's largely hereditary, but aside from that, who knows?

You should follow up with bone density scans and visits with your dr. Yes, it get worse. My mom went from osteopenia to full blown osteoporosis in one year as confirmed on a scan. Be sure to take the right amount of calcium, vit.d and get some sunshine too. Also, walking and light weight lifting are said to help. Sodas are known to deplete calcium levels so it may be wise to not drink soda. You should really see your dr.

Recent xray report says osteopenia, despite a life of too much food and an extreme amount of weight-bearing. (My extreme Diet Coke intake probably explains the deficiency.) So I bought Viactive caramel chews which supply calcium, vitamin D, and vitamin K. Faithfully taking them-cheap and taste so damn good it is hard to limit myself to the daily dosage lol.

If you have osteoporosis, you should be taking calcium w/magnesium and vitamin D. I have had osteopenia for years and by taking my calcium (1200 mg/day in 2 - 600 mg doses) and along with exercise, I have been able to actually rebuild bone previously lost.

I just went for a Dexa-Scan for my Osteoporsis. The technician looked at my med list and asked if I am taking Boniva and Synthroid. I answered yes. I take other meds other than those two she mentioned. I told her that I understood why she asked about the Boniva but I didn't understand why she asked about Synthroid. She told me that thyroid meds take from the bones and causes osteoporosis. WHAT??? How come no doctor ever told me?

I'm not surprised to hear that you have osteopenia. I also have osteopenia as well and I'm in my 30's. If you have osteopenia, you are at greater risk for getting osteoporosis. The normal treatment is vitamin D supplementation, but there is now some controversy surrounding that. There are people now, including myself, who believe that a low vitamin D level does not cause the disease, but it is rather a symptom of the disease... and that vitamin D supplements will make it worse.

I would check first to make sure your insurance company will pay for the test. The test rules out osteopenia and osteoporosis. I know I have osteopenia and many other women and even men with CFS and fibro have osteopenia or osteoporosis as well.
