It is likely that your symptoms may be from other causes. Sometimes headaches can be a sign of not drinking enough - so a glass of water and a few minutes to relax / be quiet - may help a lot. Avatar n tn Today about 20 minutes after my lunch I started sweating, feeling weak, heart racing, etc. I checked my blood sugar and it was 71 after eating a chicken salad, salad. I checked it before eating and it was 77 so why would it go down after eating a salad and a few wheat crackers? 71 is normal but again I felt horrible, weak, shaky, anxiety, etc. Could this be something other than Hypoglycemia? Before I had lunch I ran 2.5 miles on the treatmill and felt fine so this is beginning to puzzle me.
Avatar n tn That is rare, for in most cases, the person feels crummy for a while, but the body eventually regulates the sugar levels. During a hypo episode (as a type 1 diabetic, of course I have occasionally overdosed by accident when my insulin didn't properly match the food carbs I ate), the eyes feel dry and vision CAN change temporarily.

Every person's sensitivity level is different and therefore where one person may remain conscious at a level of 50, another may encounter a seizure at that same level. I did type "hypoglycemia" into google and many, many links showed up, so try doing that for additional resources.

Avatar f tn A definitive exam is a 6-hour test for blood sugar levels. First they test your blood sugar for a base level. They you drink some horribly sweet glop. Subsequently they test your blood sugar hourly. A simple fasting blood sugar test would not tell you much.

This often times happens when Metformin is combined with other diabetes medications, and is more common in elderly folks or folks with internal organ issues. Low glucose also can happen when fasting before surgery or a blood test/s and after lengthy exercise. You should notify your doctor of your low glucose experiences ASAP. Ask your doctor how to adjust your Metformin dose if needed.

My hypoglycemia strikes with no warning many times throughout the day, even as soon as an hour after my meals. I have to carry glucose tablets and orange juice with me at all times. When it falls low I cannot function. The last really bad episode of this I could hardly breathe, complete mental confusion, weak all over, headache, heart palpitations, very scary to say the least.
Avatar n tn thanks for the response. I don't know much about sugar levels, so why do the doctors comments seem suspicious? Is it b/c non-fasting sugar levels don't tell you much, or b/c the level (80) itself isn't good? BTW, I'm going to another doctor and have him look at things just to be sure.

Best meal plan for this is LCHF, which basically resembles VEGETABLE + PROTEIN (meat/fish/egg) + FAT. Make sure fat is from natural sources, like olive oil, avocado, butter, coconut, etc, and not the fake stuff like margarine.

Am having problems dealing with my insurance company who won't even cover my stupid testing strips. They basically are $1 a strip. Expensive. I had gestational diabetes several years ago (gestational diabetes was covered 100% for supplies and visits), so I am aware of how to do all the blood testing and have been doign fine about that.

Avatar f tn I told him that I previously had gestational diabetes that once on diet alone caused my blood sugar levels to drop so low that the meter read in the 40's and sometimes just LOW. The nutritionsts then changed my diet so that it was double portion sizes and everything read perfectly. Due to this it was decided that I would take the medication only once per day instead of twice.

This may be partially to blame for hypoglycemia if it is "rebound", meaning her blood sugars may not sharply exceed the high levels, but if she eats a heavy meal -especially one high in simple carbohydrates- several hours later it "crashes" giving her hypoglycemia. It was explained to me that the insulin triggers becomes overreactive and dump a large amount of insulin in response to the free sugars in her system.

Avatar f tn ve been doing research online, and came across an article that stated there is something about low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia) that triggers something in your brain that causes you to crave alcohol. I've always worried about developing diabetes from excessive drinking. Then I remembered that my sister is hypoglycemic. She's not an alcoholic like I am, but I do know that diabetes/hypoglycemia and alcoholism are all hereditary.
Avatar f tn From what I understand initial low blood sugar symptoms (that is the feelings as your sugar drops, rather than the symptoms that come about after suffering low blood sugar over an extended time) are a hormonal response your body puts out to tell itself your sugar is dropping and to do something about it. Those initial signs - the shakiness, the disconnecting feeling (almost dream-like disconnect) sometimes cold sweat, etc, can result from other things as well.

Avatar n tn It is possible low blood sugar could cause these symptoms, but sounds more like high blood sugar to me. Do you test? If you are not diagnosed with diabetes you should see a doctor to find out the reason for your symptoms.
Avatar n tn I beg to differ with JDRF on this one. Low 70's is not really NORMAL levels. That is a low level for most people. Levels were probably on the way down from running prior to eating and as they continued to drop you did not eat enought to make up for the carbs used by running. Reactions to eating and exercise are not instantaneous sometimes both effects can occur hours later. I for one have to eat 28 g of fast acting sugars before my workouts to remain at normal levels when I am done.
