Benicar vs losartan potassium

Common Questions and Answers about Benicar vs losartan potassium

benicar

Avatar m tn I am taking Losartan, which is the generic of Cozaar. Like Benicar (which is not available in generic yet, I believe) it is an angiotensin II inhibitor. There are usually very few side effects associated with these drugs, but their action on the biochemistry of the body is complex, so anything is possible. I have Hashimoto's disease, which means I am HYPOthyroid. Before the Losartan, I was taking 90 mgs of Armour (which is T3 AND T4) daily.
Avatar m tn His averaged blood pressure is 146/80. He was placed on losartan potassium (50 mg) for 8 days but there is no change to his averaged blood pressure. Would you advice him continuing losartan or seek new drugs? Many thanks. Avatar m tn I have being training for several running races for 5 months. Before going into a preparation for a half marathon training, I went to the cardiologist to do a check up, as I know my BP always was borderline to be considered high. I did Echo, Stress tests and 24h BP measurements. Echo and stress went all right, but BP was slightly high, my mean systolic pressure was 133 and mean diastolic was 83, with the maximum during the test being 148 an 100.
16467414 tn?1448304929 Did your doctor mention to avoid high levels of potassium while taking Losartan? Too much potassium is called Hyperkalemia and it can be extremely deadly if not treated. I am trying to come off Atenolol after 7 years and a few weeks ago a doctor put me on Losartan Potassium and did not tell me that though I asked if I should avoid anything. I found out what Hyperkalemia does to you the hard way. It can kill you if levels are very high, almost did me in!
Avatar n tn I recently had open heart surgery, 4 bypasses. I was on Benicar 20mg. a day before the surgery along with Zocor to control cholesterol. I am now on Plavix, Toprol XL, Zocor and Benicar. My blood pressure has been low, in the range of 90/60 since the surgery but the cardiologist wants me to continue the Benicar. He said it's "good for the heart". Has anyone ever heard of this before? My understanding was that Benicar is for high BP.
Avatar m tn I started bp treatment at 21 eith Benicar, my insurance stopped covering Benicar and I switched to Lisinopril, I then started having erection problems. At this point my doctor switched me to HCTZ and took me off the lisinopril, the erectile problems improved for a few days and then went back to the same I have NO MORNING ERECTIONS.
Avatar f tn t had any other problems with Lisinopril besides the cough and I am scared to change meds and take the chance of worse side effects. I am just wondering if anybody has any thoughts on Lisinopril vs Losartan to help me decide if I should change meds. Thanks!!!
Avatar m tn I was on losartan for a few months. I don't think that my bp was consistenlty high. I think what was going on was that it was very up and down and it was making me feel pretty bad. But losartan which is a third line for bp was the first thing that they put me on. And I don't think my bp was that bad. I have had elevated renin/aldosterone studies and low potassium in the past.
478554 tn?1208034407 You are correct, Benicar is an expensive drug, I am on 40 mg per day with 12.5 of HCT (Benicar HCT). Since there is no generic, my insurance also tries to block it's use, but they have to give it to you if your doctor provides the additional documentation, but it won't help the price. TGL's are easy to control, usually cutting back on empty carbs like those found in breads, pastas, sugars and processed foods will have a huge impact.
Avatar f tn Am I being too restrictive of sodium and potassium intake? What do you mean? Cramping can be caused by dehydration and an imbalance of sodium and potassium blood levels. Diuretics can can cause this. Many diuretics decrease potassium in the blood. This can lead to low potassium levels in your blood. There are "potassium-sparing" diuretics that don't cause this problem.
Avatar n tn I do not want to take a bp med, i read that potassium bicarbonat, and bananas, are just as beneifical as taking Losartan ,I know it sounds silly, but I just do not want to take any more meds. I have been doing fine for 5 years after stents, take fish oil capsules, magnesium and vitamin d, recently started 5 htp, don't all these help to keep my arteries from blocking anymore?also take other supplements like co-q 10, b complex.
Avatar n tn Losartan also may cause a persistent cough, increase serum potassium, impotence, and angioedema. Losartan may reduce kidney function in some patients and should not be used by patients who have bilateral renal artery stenosis (narrowing of both arteries going to the kidneys). Rare cases of rhabdomyolysis (muscle breakdown) have been reported.
Avatar m tn Blood pressure is 180 mmHg (high pressure) / 100 mmHg(low pressure). The doctor gave Losartan Potassium and Hydrochlorothiazide Tablets. The blood pressure is then controlled to 107~135 mmHg(high pressure) / 65~80 mmHg(low pressure). In 2015: My mother suddenly felt dizzy and she was found that her blood pressure jumped to 80~90 mmHg(high pressure) / 50 mmHg(low pressure). Then the doctor asked her to stop taking any blood pressure control medicine. Her heart is examined OK.
Avatar f tn Losartan blood pressure supplements comtains ingredients of losartan potassium. It commonly includes side effects like high blood ressure. dizziness, breathing difficulty, asthama. Try to consult other doctor if possible.
Avatar f tn the doctor switched me to Losartan 50 qd. I am going to change on Monday to Losartan and am nervous about what will happen. any thoughts on this??
Avatar m tn Dear Doctor, Thanks for your valuable reply. I'm taking blood pressure med in 2 times ( Losartan Potassium, Amlodipine). milk thistle can bad Interaction with these medicine pls?
Avatar m tn Sometimes raised bp causes the lvh. Also is it 3 meds you take? Losartan, Hctz (A diuretic) and Spiro (a Diuretic, Potassium sparing type). Revisit things with the cardio till you are happy. They probably consider 150 ish as not too bad for systolic. But the next thing will be double the dose of some of the meds!! Also did you get tested for secondary causes of bp? eg Pheo or Conns syndrome? worth a few tests just in case. both could be sorted.
Avatar f tn Take 25 metropolol (been on it since 2012) and 25 losartan (started in April 17). High blood pressure but often have lower readings when calm and not in a doctors office. Recent CRP test was 4 which is high risk for heart attack. Recent Potassium level is fine. Recent FSH is elevated indicating possible menopause. Recent symptoms - always tired, long lasting headaches that come and go. some night sweats (my body feels like its giving off heat- with chest tightness but not often.
1260320 tn?1270394906 I'm on Benicar HCT, have been for many years. Benicar is in a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Benicar keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow. Benicar HCT has a diuretic included as well. I have been fortunate, Benicar has worked from the first day I took it and works well still today. My 90 day average BP is 108/67 down from 135/85 when I started. I have had no side effects as well, the best of both worlds!
Avatar m tn My new VA doctor wants to change one of my blood pressure medications from 160 mg of Valsartan 2 times per day to an equivalent dose of 100 mg of Losartan but only once per day. My blood pressure has been controlled for years with typical readings around 118/70 using the Valsartan, Amlodipine 5mg, and a diuretic (hydrochlorothiazide 25mg). I have not made the change yet. 1. Why should I agree to experiment with reducing my primary blood pressure medication and what are the risks?
Avatar n tn Ok... let me explain the effects of low cortisol, normally. What is is simply is that your body cannot manage sodium. In most people, when sodium goes down, potassium rises - you get confusion, nausea, headaches, vomiting, low blood pressure, chills, sweats, fevers, and it all can lead to coma and death. Look up adrenal crisis for other symptoms. Now, in some people with adrenal issues, potassium does not rise.
