benicar hct and grapefruit juice

Benicar keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow. Benicar HCT has a diuretic included as well. I have been fortunate, Benicar has worked from the first day I took it and works well still today. My 90 day average BP is 108/67 down from 135/85 when I started. I have had no side effects as well, the best of both worlds!

For the record, I had my gallbladder removed today laparoscopically and did not stop taking the Benicar HCT. No troubles that they felt worth mentioning, so it does sound like at my dosage, it was fine. And, yeah...the surgery itself was unbelievably easy!

My dr put me on Benicar 20mg and Toprol XL 25mg to lower my blood pressure. I have a fast pulse too (always over 100). Will these meds lower my pulse also?

The chest pain has returned and the diastolic pressure is 53.I am currently on benicar hct 40/25 and my bp has been 126/53. Should I stop taking the benicar? Not sure what to make of the chest pain.I am a 48 yr. old female other wise in good health.

You are correct, Benicar is an expensive drug, I am on 40 mg per day with 12.5 of HCT (Benicar HCT). Since there is no generic, my insurance also tries to block it's use, but they have to give it to you if your doctor provides the additional documentation, but it won't help the price. TGL's are easy to control, usually cutting back on empty carbs like those found in breads, pastas, sugars and processed foods will have a huge impact.

hadn't heard that before...hmmm.. I know if you're taking any benzos (valium,xanax,etc) you don't want to drink grapefruit juice.. maybe some else knows? best wishes to you! I know this is hard. we're here for you!!

Grapefruit juice and grapefruit also interacts negatively with some anxiety meds (Alprazolam, for example).

If I take my statin in the morning can I drink grapefruit juice at night? how long between taking pills must I wait before having the juice?

Wow looks like i should have read the warning label when my doc gave me to take them PRN or as necessary to re convert myself......okay i just went off of the site and read up on the label...they are telling us not to take it with the citrus because it effects how our body absorbs the Multaq for maximum performance of the med...if it were me and i had to take it on a daily basis i probably would stay away from all citrus drinks for sure because you want to give yourself the best shot possible...

So maybe if your having a really bad day, and you have to take a xanax, and it feels like it didnt do much...just drink a glass of grapefruit juice instead of popping another xanax, lol, just kiddin.

Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may interact with Xanax and lead to potentially dangerous effects. Discuss the use of grapefruit products with your doctor.

Just curious, I was started on Benicar HCT 40/12.5 about 3 or 4 years ago at a time when I was at my peak weight, well over 300 pounds, not taking very good care of myself and not exercising. My blood pressure was running around 140/85 at the time. I underwent some cardiac work ups due to some chest pain over that time period including a couple of Nuclear Stress Tests and Echos along with all the blood work that is usually done, all tests were always normal.

I could tell that my bp was still high and I went to another doctor who prescribed me Benicar for the bp. The headaches became too much to bear again. The closest definition I have found is "primary cough headache", however I am not in the norm of risk factor group. I have been healthy most of my like aside from asthma when I was younger, and I smoke a pack of cigarrettes a day.

i need to know that, what is the interaction between juices of Grapefruit and Hepatitis C? is there any reactions of Grapefruit juice being taken by Hepatitis C patient?

Hi I did a search and found this, it appears it is just the grapefruit juice. My Mom was told not to eat grapefruit with her Synthroid. I think it can increase that dose as well. http://www.livestrong.

I'm not sure what the official medical answer is regarding grapefruit juice and Synthroid, but I have never noticed a difference when I drink pink grapefruit juice vs. any other juice. I know grapefruit juice is a no-no with certain meds (my Mom can't drink it because of one of her post-heart attack medications), but I have never seen any warnings regarding synthroid.

Teh meds I am taking is Benicar HCT 20mg, take them daily. I am the nervous type, and think I am starting to suffer from anxiety, because during a stressful period I developed skin burning sensation in my upper back that still to this day I feel sometimes. Hope this info helps you a bit more.

Hi Stacey...thanks for posting this info...I did know that grapefruit and grapefruit juice could interact with some meds.... Many r unaware that even "natural" supplements can interact with meds...so u should never add nething to ur list of intake items unless u discuss it with ur dr or ur pharmacist....they can tell u what will have adverse reactions...or cause ur meds to be ineffective.....

Hi Chicky Watch out for interactions with grapefruit juice and meds. I went on Zoloft in anticipation of beginning treatment. Then read about the grapefruit juice-turns out they use the same enzyme to clear your system so you can get too much of the drug in your system and get liver toxicity. Grapefruit acts that way with many drugs, so check first, then drink up.

Several of my drugs (Lamictal, Seroquel, & Valium - at a minimum) interact w/ grapefruit. It's on all of the information that comes from the pharmacy and I didn't take it seriously until I got pretty toxic myself. I LOVE grapefruits & grapefruit juice and I miss them a lot. I also tend towards side effects and toxicity.
