Avatar m tn I've been suffering with a very strange skin infection for the past 6 months. In October 2009, I caught a very bad case of impetigo, and was given antibiotics to combat it. In a couple weeks it cleared up, but in less than a week after treatment my skin broke out with these oozing, golden crusts once again. The dermatologist I was seeing prescribed all sorts of antibiotics to try to cure me, but all served to be only temporarily effective.
Avatar f tn So, impetigo isn't really something you treat with over the counter products. It typically requires a prescription from a doctor of a topical antibiotic (like a cream you put on) or a pill if it is systemic (through body). It's basically a staph or strep infection of the skin. And it IS contagious. It's important he receive prompt attention (especially since you are mentioning his eye lid involved) but it needs to be a prescription of antibiotics from a doctor.
Avatar m tn Earlier this afternoon (july 7th), i ended up going to urgent care and the doctor said i had impetigo, and he wrote me up a prescription for antibiotic ointment (Mupirocin Ointment USP, 2%) and sent me on my way. I still have some questions though! 1.) i read that impetigo is highly contagious. How contagious is it? i always wash my hands after i apply the ointment, and I don't touch the area at all, except when im putting the ointment on. 2.
Avatar n tn Hi Are you taking any medications for this? With the way you describe the skin condition, this sounds like impetigo. "Impetigo starts as a red sore that quickly ruptures, oozes for a few days and then forms a yellowish-brown crust that looks like honey or brown sugar. The disease is highly contagious, and scratching or touching the sores is likely to spread the infection to other parts of the body as well as to other people." Source:http://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar n tn This study concluded that azithromycin 1g single dose was quite effective in curing gonorrhea. "This paper describes the efficacy of azithromycin 1g single dose in the management of uncomplicated gonorrhoea either with or without chlamydial co-infection. Three hundred and one patients were treated for gonorrhoea between January 2000 and June 2001; 226/301 (75.1%) were treated with azithromycin 1g stat dose while the rest were treated with different regimens. Ninety-seven of 301 (32.
Avatar n tn this could be many things including oral herpes , fungal infection or bacterial infection ( impetigo ). Unfortunately the ER isn't the greatest place to be seen for issues like this. seeing a dermatologist, ENT specialist or even just an experienced family practioner/internal medicine specialist are your better options. best of luck and stop back and let us know how your appointment went !
Avatar f tn impetigo has nothing to do with HIV. What was your possible exposure?
Avatar f tn My daughter had impetigo several weeks back. She was treated with a cream and oral antibiotics. The area has healed. However, she has and pigmented discolored area exactly the same size as where her impetigo spot was. Will this go away? How long will it take? Is this normal and is there anything we can do to help this area return to its natural skin color.
Avatar n tn I just recently noticed a small area inside my right nostril that appears to either be impetigo or a cold sore. This looks like a cold sore, but after reading on internet, it sounds like odds are it is more likely impetigo. It started as a pimple like lesion and looks more like a flat/slightly raised brown crusty lesion? Please help me figure this out, or give me more info on what this could be, so I know whether to go right in to see a doctor. Thank you.
Avatar n tn I am worried because I went out in the sun for about 4 weeks straight after the impetigo cleared up and that is why i think the hyper pigmentation change will be permanent. I got Impetigo the first week of April, and its now the end of May, so it has been 8 weeks and the red marks are still there and are very pinkish/redish in color. Therefore, my questions are, 1) Is this color change normal after impetigo? 2) Will this pigment change go back to its original color ?
1562256 tn?1384459598 Hey my 6 year old child when she was a baby use to get Impetigo all the time... Last time she had it was when she was about 4. Well I think this is Impetigo. Tell me what you think. It like showed up in one day.
Avatar m tn You can take a duo test right now since it is after 28 days for a conclusive result. Impetigo is highly infectious and you interact with others so there is no reason to try to narrow it down to her. Everyone posts their ARS symptoms here but so far no one has had ArS since I have been here, so doctors don't diagnose from symptoms, just tests.
Avatar m tn As an Asian I have very smooth skin. however 5 months ago I was told that I had impetigo. I had some antibacterial cream prescribed and a cream to get rid of the flaky skin that comes impetigo. It has been 5 months and I still have some bumps. They aren't impetigo, ( no leaking), but these are abnormally large lumps on my skin. The would cluster and would look like acne. but when I pop them only blood comes out.
Avatar f tn Your child should be kept out of school until he has been on treatment for 24 hours with oral antibiotics or 48 hours with antibiotic ointment alone. For mild impetigo treated with an antibiotic ointment, the child can continue to attend day care or school if the sore is covered with a Band-Aid." Do kee us posted on your doubts and progress.

Avatar m tn 2 weeks ago, I was diagnosed with Impetigo and Folliculitis, most likely caused by the same bacteria living on my body. The doctor diagnosed the Impetigo by looking at it, and he prescribed me Doxycycline and Muporocin (SP?) After a few days, the Impetigo began to clear up. It was in the left corner of my lip. There is still a bit of redness there, but nothing else and no irritation. The folliculitis was on my head, back, different areas of my thighs, and occasionally my chest.
Avatar n tn Dicloxacillin is a poor choice for any STD. It has no effect against chlamydia or the other bacteria that cause cervicitis in women and NGU in men, and borderline efficacy at best against gonorrhea and syphilis. The alternative to doxycycline is azithromycin 1.0 g orally in a single dose, which is safe and effective in pregnancy. If gonorrhea is a concern, then it's azithromycin plus a cephalosporin antibiotic, such cefixime or cefpodoxime; or a 2.0 g dose of azithromycin.
Avatar m tn I told her mother that she should take my daughter to her Dr. and ask her to examine her for impetigo. I haven't heard back from her whether she has or not. I will follow up. I will say with certainty that the spot my daughter had was EXACTLY what I had on my face. I appreciate your response and maybe I just need to be a bit more patient. I'm still taking the antibiotics, as the Dr. gave me a month's supply (3 per day, 30 days), with one refill available.
Avatar m tn I'm 19 years old and I have had impetigo around my mouth for over two months now and nothing seems to help it. Ive been on three rounds of Flucloxacillin and have also been using Fucidin cream alongside it, but nothing has cured it. It seems to get better to the point that it is almost completely gone, but then I go to bed and wake up the next day and the thick crust has returned.
Avatar n tn t remember when they developed first but I think it was as a result of an impetigo infection 3 years ago (which i took oral antibiotics for and cleared up). However not all the areas affected by the impetigo left marks. Since that initial impetigo infection I've had it a few times more (unusual I think?) but no scarring etc. occurred any of those times. They don't seem to be scars as my facial hair is growing through them.
Avatar f tn Is this usual or unusual for bullous impetigo? Also, are the sore spots in my hair that look like crusty flakes on my scalp sebhorriec dermatitis or psoriasis or maybe it's something else?? Why do you think the impetigo keeps coming back because from the things that I read it's supposed to be curable and once cured you don't have to worry about it coming back to haunt you again, is it?? Any thoughts...
Avatar n tn Hi, This could be a bacterial skin infection like Impetigo or an allergic reaction. Impetigo is a superficial skin infection, caused by staphylococcus ("staph") and streptococcus ("strep") bacteria. Though it is more common in children it can be seen in adults. The non-bullous variety is the common form, caused by both staph and strep. It appears as small blisters or scabs, which then form yellow or honey-colored crusts. These often start around the nose and on the face.
Avatar n tn since probably November, but i didnt realize it was impetigo until about the middle of december. I took keflex for 10 days and it disappeared. Then I had an allergic reaction to an acne product i have used for 10 years, and contracted it again. I just finished my second round of antibiotics about 5 days ago. I had two pimples on my face, but now they are forming those familiar yellow crustings of impetigo. I should say, I am 20, i live in a house with 27 other girls, and i go to college.
Avatar f tn it could be bullous or non-bullous impetigo just depending how severe the case is, but google impetigo and see if it looks like it. my daughters were raised red bumps with whiteheads...the hibaclens scrub really helps clear it up you wash the spots with it in the shower, you can get it at your pharmacy.
