Azithromycin and prostatitis

Common Questions and Answers about Azithromycin and prostatitis

Avatar n tn It seems your doctor is knowledgeable about STD diagnosis and treatment, and probably also understands prostatitis. Return to him or her for reevaluation if your symptoms don't clear up or return.
Avatar m tn t appear any abnormalities. Said I could have prostatitis and gave me antibiotics and told me to follow up in a week with a uroligist. My question is this...ive read azithromycin is pretty much guaranteed to cure chlamydia, but is it possible i had chlamydia and it has infected my prostate and caused bacterial prostatitis but taking the azithromycin has killed the initial chlamydia? Or if the chlamydia got to my prostate the azithromycin hasnt cured it?
Avatar m tn The standard treatment is either a single 1.0 gram dose of azithromycin (which is long-acting and actually gives over a week of effective treatment); or doxycycline, usually 100 mg twice daily for a week. These cover chlamydia as well as nonchlamydial NGU." Dr. HHH And you should already know that since you posted in that thread.
Avatar f tn It's currently 10 days since I took 1 gram of Azithromycin for what seemed like Chlamydia. My lab results aren't in yet but I was prescribed and took Azithromycin the same day I went to the clinic for the testing. The symptoms I had at the time were painful urination and the tip of the penis was red/swollen. Later on the same day I took Azithromycin I started noticing cloudy/clear discharge (stained yellow) for the first time and this lasted for about 3 or 4 days.
Avatar m tn That seemed to clear it up but one week later when my results came in and confirmed gonorrhea I returned and receive more azithromycin as well as ceftrixone and took them right away. All symptoms remained absent for about a week or so but then new symptoms turned up. I developed a pain in my testicles which radiated down my legs and a very small amount of clear discharge. There is no more burning but the tip of my urethra feels "wet".
Avatar m tn I would think it is Bacterial Postatitis in this case, some symptoms of NGU and Prostatitis are similar such as burning urination and lower back pain but NGU most often has a discharge from the penis which is not the normal clear fluid it is a thicker more like pus. Carry on with the medication and be sure to finish the course after which there should be a marked improvement,if not you should return to your Doctor or Urologist.
Avatar m tn The inflammation of prostatitis leads to scarring (internal and microscopic) of the prostate and accompanying "plumbing", predisposing a person to future recurrences and problems. This is what I suspect you are experiencing. I sincerely doubt that you have herpetic urethroprosatitis, a diagnosis that I have never heard of before and which is not mentioned in any test.
Avatar m tn Flash forward and it has morphed into prostatitis, urethritis, epidydimytis, strange vascular symptoms on my penis and testicles (apparently thrombophlebitis - had that since the first month of infection). My glands are up in my groin but the doctors are having a hard time finding an infection. STDs are notorious for finding ways to evade detection and considering the infection reacted extremely badly to antibiotics, i believe a microbe is causing these problems. Any help?
Avatar m tn Hi i had unprotected sex with a working girl 10 days back and now i have symptoms of chlamydia irritation in urethra and pain in testicles on one side.. I have done "HIV I & II" and "RPR / VDRL" tests today ill get the reports tomorrow. Will these tests detect chlamydia and all other stds?. If not what are the other important tests i should have as i want to have tests for all the stds i can.
Avatar n tn My biggest fear is that I did have an STD which may have caused my prostatitis condition and possibly passed it on to my regular partner.
Avatar m tn I then immediately went to the doctor and he said possibly chlamyida or gonorrhea so i was given azithromycin or sumethin and cpirofloxcin and then the testicluar pain stopped, and he felt my prosate and said it felt abit full, then i went 2 weeks later and he said it felt fine but then i had cases wen i was urinating that my urethra(da tube) was hurting, and after ejaculation i felt a sharp pain mayb (ranging an hour) after masturbation and ejaculation.
Avatar n tn Went to see a doctor, who confirmed prostatitis--not BPH--with digital probing, and gave me azithromycin, then levaquin, ten day courses of each. Neither had any noticeable effect beyond making me constipated. I did online research and found out that most prostatitis is not bacterial, a possibility the doc (who was elderly) did not even appear to consider.
Avatar n tn Well... I went to the doctor today and he suspects prostatitis and referred me to a urologist. Before seeing the urologist he wanted to try some different treatments. He did another urine test and I'm awaiting results. He also gave me: Rochepin injection (250 mg I think) 1000mg dosage of Azithromycin 500mg Cipro taken 2 times daily for 14 days I will see how this plays out. Is this likely to take care of whatever is going on?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with NSU (Non Specific Urethritis) by picking a sample from inside of my penis and looking at it under the microscope the doctor prescribed 1g of Azithromycin (single dose), one week after taking Azithromycin I was panicked because of no relief of symptoms and took Doxycycline 100mg twice a day for one week by myself, discharge disappeared but the burning sensation was there I went back to my clinic and same doctor tested my urinary tract sample under the microscope and said th
Avatar n tn t get tested in the 3rd world country I was in), I was treated with cipro 500mg for 7 days. It did not work and I took ceftriaxone and azithromycin which appeared to get rid of the GC, but I still had lingering symptoms (prostatitis) I returned to the US and I was tested negative for G/C. My doc put me on Cipro for 2 weeks for prostatitis and urged me to wait and see, so I will give it a try. I will let you know how it goes.
Avatar m tn You mention prostatitis and I do not know how that diagnosis was made but I should mention several things related to this possibility. First, prostatitis is almost never an STD and if you have prostatitis it is almost certainly a coincidence unrelated to your condom mishap, although your experience could conceivably led to discovery of something that might have been smoldering for some time.
Avatar m tn Your lingering symptoms, including the back pain are also quite typical of prostatitis. the fact that your symptoms improved and your lab tests became negative and then recurred also suggest prostatitis to me. I would seek the advice of a urologist. In some instances more prolonged courses of antibiotics or a switch in antibiotics will resolve things. Reactive arthritis is uncommon and particularly so in persons who are HLA B-27 negative.
Avatar n tn The chance of catching HIV through and particular vaginal sex event is very low -- low enough that even 4-5 exposures carries little practical risk. This comes from both the low chance your partner had HIV plus the rarity of HIV transmission if she had it (an average chance around 1 in 2,000 for each unprotected vaginal exposure).
Avatar m tn Be that as it may, with repeated treatments with both doxycycline and azithromycin, you may wish to talk to your doctor about a course of moxifloxacin. Your situation is a difficult one and moxifloxacin has proven to be effective against chlamydia, mycoplasma genitalium and gets into the prostate well. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn okay take you so much AJ well now the mucus in my motuh has cleared up but i am still feeling testicular pain and as i stated i had gotten the medication for apo-ciproflox and azithromycin on wednesdat at 5pm, so i would like to know when the effect of testicular pain will stop so i can stop worrying and being concerned and move on PLZ AND THANK YU
Avatar m tn Condom broke and quickly replaced.2 weeks and 1 week ago had protected oral and vaginal with different CSW without incident. Had mild white DC 4 days ago and given 1.5 grams of azithromycin 2 d ago. Then read 2 g was better. Do I need to do anything different now?
Avatar m tn STDs test were negative for HIV, Ghonneria, and chlamydia. Doctor gave me doxycyclene without improvement and then gave me Azithromycin. After this the frequency and difficulty going went away. I still have the pain at the tip or penis whole. No rash or visible sores at any point on my genitals or bloody urine. Problem started after unprotected sex with a semi frequent partner roughly 8 weeks ago. I have urology appt. soon but am afraid this might be herpes.
Avatar m tn At 3 days post exposure I took 1g azithromycin and at 2 weeks post exposure I started doxycycline 100mg two times a day however I am still getting symptoms 3 weeks post exposure (today). My doctor thinks there is nothing wrong with me and performed a digital examination of my prostate but said it was normal, she also felt my stomach and asked me to cough.
Avatar f tn The recommended protocol consists of an anti-fungal diet, avoiding sugar, most carbs, alcohol and taking probiotics, coconut oil (oral and topical), anti-fungal tablets and topical creams/ointments. But you need to be evaluated again. Usually a urine sample is taken to test for fungal or bacterial pathogens and by combining the test and physical examination results , a diagnosis can be made.
