Azithromycin and doxycycline

Common Questions and Answers about Azithromycin and doxycycline

zithromax

Avatar m tn I have noticed that a milky white discharge appears in the penis. I saw this discharge a week ago. Also I didn't have any sex with others than my wife. I did a research on internet and found that my symptoms are almost similar to Chlamydia. I took Azithromycin 1g before I go to bed two days ago. As the discharge didn't disappear two days after taking Azithromycin 1g, I started taking Doxycycline 100mg twice a day for 7 days. Is this procedure effective or not?
Avatar m tn 0 grams (4 500 mg pills) taken at one time is just as effective as penicillin for syphilis treatment however, there are some cases of treatment failures with azithromycin for syphilis treatment and many of the treatment failures have come from San Francisco where you apparently live. Thus this is a matter of concern. While many people will be cured by therapy of early syphilis with azithromycin, the dose you have received is not the recommended dose.
Avatar m tn Should i change to azithromycin and stop the doxycycline regime, or just stay with doxycycline? Which is the right choice of drug ? By the way , the first doctor also suggested taking doxycycline & at the same time getting treated with penicillin injection daily for 1 week, will this be effective or too much at once?

Avatar n tn I have read lots of your post concerning biaxin and azithromycin and whether they cure syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia and NGU. I have found that biaxin is chemically different than azithromycin but biologically same at killing bacteria as azithromycin. On some post you say that azithromycin or clarithromycin(biaxin) would cure all the bacterial stds then in others you state that there could be some problems. by H. Hunter Handsfield, M.D.
Avatar f tn Apparently doctors here tend to double up the doses and/or prescribe both Azithromycin and Doxycycline. They gave me 15 days of Doxycycline 100mg 2x a day. That did the trick. Another thing that maybe helpful to some people is to realize that Azithromycin and Doxycycline work by not killing the bacteria, but actually by preventing the bacteria from reproducing. That means that your body's immune system actually has to kill the bacteria on its own.
Avatar n tn It has no effect against chlamydia or the other bacteria that cause cervicitis in women and NGU in men, and borderline efficacy at best against gonorrhea and syphilis. The alternative to doxycycline is azithromycin 1.0 g orally in a single dose, which is safe and effective in pregnancy. If gonorrhea is a concern, then it's azithromycin plus a cephalosporin antibiotic, such cefixime or cefpodoxime; or a 2.0 g dose of azithromycin.
Avatar n tn In the meatal area there was a clear but not discharging secretions. I self treated with 1 gram of Cipro and 1 gram of Azithromycin, followed by 250mg per day of Azithromycin for 2 days. However, symptoms of pharyngitis & urethritis continued. I went to my doctor about a week after having taken the Azithromycin & Cipro.
Avatar m tn Five days of doxycycline would probably have cured the infection and 1.5g of azithromycin of 50% more azithromycin than is required for chlamydial therapy. Wither way you would be cured. 1) Would 5 days of doxycycline and on day 6 the 1.5 g zithromax cure chlamydia if present? Yes 2) I used zithromax back in july for an ear infections. Would this build up resistance against chlamydia due to overuse of zithromax? Probably not. I hope these comments are helpful. Enjoy your holiday.
Avatar f tn OK, it was doxycycline and I took it for 7 days, starting the day of trigger...so I guess that was more to prepare for transfer then.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Azithromycin for 4 days. I have gotten worse. Still have fever and have developed nasal congestion with yellow discharge. ENT gave me Spectracef. I read that Spectracef does not treat mychoplasma. So, is there an antibiotic that would treat both mychoplasma AND sinusitis incase I have one or both?
Avatar m tn ve had both an injection and a course of doxycycline, is this misunderstanding of the azithromycin (and the 12 hour gap between the first 250mg and the remaining 750mg) likely to mean that I still have the infection? Do I need to seek treatment or testing again?
Avatar n tn Both would have been treated with a high degree of reliability with the therapy you received as the cefixime (Suprax) is the recommended therapy for gonorrhea and doxycycline is recommended therapy for NGU. Both are so effective that it is not necessary to have a follow-up, "test-of-cure" test. The symptoms typically begin to improve very soon after starting therapy (24 hours) but may not completely resolve for 5-7 days in some cases.
Avatar m tn t know whats going on since azithromycin and doxycycline are both 99% effective and i agree with him but that alone should tell him that it's probably something else. Anyways he tells me i need a cystoscopy to see if there's any scarring in my urethra or something like that. Here are some facts before making a decision. I took raw apple cider vinegar and it made the feeling of leakage go away for a while but it came back.
Avatar m tn t pick up the extra tablets as the clinic is out of town and I am working full time and going abroad in 2 days. With both the azithromycin and incomplete doxycycline, do you think that my chlamydia will be cured anyway? Thanks...
Avatar n tn Through all my own research, I have never heard of avelox. Azithromycin or doxycycline are best for chlamydia. Suprax or cipro(?) for gonnorhea.
Avatar f tn My symptoms were uti Symptoms and a bit of yellowish discharge. I took 1000 mg of azithromycin, but it seemed to do nothing. I called and got sent macrobid thinking it was a lingering uti caused by the chlamydia. This also did nothing. I went back to a clinic and got retested positive for chlamydia again 2 weeks later. Took azithromycin again with no relief.
Avatar f tn i went back to my GP and he gave me another round of azithromycin 1g, 2g metronidazole and a 10-day course of doxycycline, 200mg a day in a single dose. again i finished the course, but the symptoms won't go away. he gave me another round of azithromycin 1g. after that i had another 10-day doxycycline course together with 2g metronidazole. still the symptoms are there.
Avatar f tn I took a shot of ceftriaxzone and a does of azithromycin and metronidizole. My test for chlamydia, trichomoniasis, and gonorrhea came back negative and 3 days later my symptoms persisted. I went back and was tested for the same again, as well as a urine culture- tested negative and no growth. I was given Doxycycline and taking for 3 days. Still having symptoms. No pain, no sores, mild irritation. What could this be??
18966962 tn?1472601945 balanitis and lichen plantus, and of course yeast as well. Anyway, doxycycline and azithromycin AND rocephin (ceftriaxone) covers basically all the STDs you can name, from syphilis to gonorrhea to chlamydia to even chancroids (H. ducreyi). Of course, it doesn't cover the viral ones like HIV and HSV, but then neither of these cause discharge. Moreover, I don't think the discharge has anything to do with STDs.
