you could start the Bactrim then take single-dose azithromycin later if the urine culture is negative. And Bactrim might clear up NGU anyway; it's not one of the recommended drugs, but it probably would work most of the time.
Perhaps most important, don't be freaked out by this. Nonchlamydial NGU is generally harmless, with no known long term health problems -- even if not treated right. And NGU acquired by oral sex may be even less likely to cause any serious problems.

Long story short, I have had persistent urethritis and some prostatitis after receiving unprotected oral sex from a girl a few months ago. I have tried single dose azithromycin and doxycycline 2x/day for 24 days with no improvement. My doctor recently prescribed me bactrim. I suspect that this may be caused by persistent ureaplasma and/or mycoplasma. Will the Bactrim treat this? If no should I test for ureaplasma/mycoplasma? What antibiotic should I take?
I was able to get into my primary care today and he ordered another Chlamydia and Gonorrhea test, which will be ready by Thursday. He told me that Chlamydia is not transmitted thru receiving oral and that Gonorrhea is more likely. However, he said without a discharge he is still uncertain. He did an in-office UTI test that showed positive for Leukocytes and negative for nitrates.
a few days later then told me i had an std and gave me azithromycin. i only took the bactrim for 5 days before getting this medication. 2 pills every 12 hrs. i then stopped taking it and took the 1g 4 pills one dose.after that i had stomach pain almost 30 mins after taking it. the next day my foot started to hurt and my upper legs was very itchy. i thought maybe it was just a side effect. a couple days later i noticed if i inhaled long my chest would feel weird.
Gave me the ceftriaxone 250 through iv and 4 pills of the azithromycin. Its been 5 days nearly and symptoms are still there. The tip has gotten more red than it was especially where its dripped after I urinate. The burn is still there from time to time especially when I wake in the morning or if I'm not drinking fluids. Shouldnt the antibiotics be working better by now and if so should I go back to er yo see about different antibiotics or what?
(This was 50 days from the last time I had sex.) PCP gave the standard 1g of oral Azithromycin and a 250mg shot of Rocephin.

That is good news. I just tried some Bactrim and I don't think my body liked it much. My LLMD thinks I was herxing and being allergic at the same time. I'll see him in 3 weeks to determine if there is another course of action he wants to take. Sticking with my natural stuff in the meantime.
I have been to the dr. She tested me for mono/ebv all came back negative and cbcs were normal.
A few weeks went by and I went to urgent care who did not do testing and just gave me 10 days Bactrim DS. After taking this for a week I still had burning and irritation near penis tip, irritated glans, and bladder soreness with frequency. Did I mention no discharge at all at any point!!! So at this point I go to free clinic, performed swab test....ouch.

It was also recently that my test results from a swab culture came positive for mycoplasma when in the past urine tests always said i was negative for all STDs. When my test results kept coming back negative the doctor told me it was fine to have sex with my partner.
I have tried 21 day course of cipro, 4 week course of doxycycline, a dose of azithromycin, 1 week course of bactrim. I am very young too (20 years old) and this condition is stopping me from doing daily tasks. I have trouble sitting. I have had ultrasound, blood test, urine test all negative but physical examination revealed epididymitis which was missed on the ultrasound. But the ultrasound did show increased vascularity in the epididymis.
I had a UTI that I have not recovered from and in blood work I had low WBC and low neutrophils with slightly elevated monocytes. I still feel I have the UTI and going back to Urgent Care Cnter. I understand that Bactrim kills folic acid. Isn't folic acid related to production of neutrophils? If so is it safe for me to take Bactrim?
Resistance rates of 50% have been reported for ureaplasma and doxycycline. M hominis is resistant to erythromycin, azithromycin, and clarithromycin. Levofloxacin, another common drug, also has been shown to have a high failure rate for M genitalium. This is why knowing which infection you have is very valuable in determining the correct treatment.
Also, being in Africa, I'd make sure you had a full battery of tests 3 months from now to look for all other STDs, especially HIV.
I have been diagnosed with MRSA and been treated three times rounds of Bactrim. I currently have an outbreak of the MRSA sores I need to pick up another round of Bactrim and now on the inside of my two index fingers the skin is peeling like a blister was there and then popped. The raw skin beneath hurts like a blister was there, however, there were no blisters on my fingers. Is this related to the MRSA?
