Common Questions and Answers about Avonex shot

avonex

Avatar m tn Any suggestion for decreasing the pain in the leg from the Avonex shot. I am still experiencing pain in my left leg 4 days after the shot. I do not experience any flu like symptoms after the shot. I experience tightening in the chest for 10 minutes (48 hours after the shot). I also experience tightness in my lower back under my shoulder 24 - 48 hours after the shot.
Avatar f tn Had first shot of Avonex today. Felt fine for about 3 hrs, now I feel really rough. Headache, flu like symptoms, skin hurts. I knee this could happen, but how long might it last.
1297805 tn?1276045905 I wish you luck, are you only giving shots in your hip? My sister is on Avonex and gives her shot in her thigh, maybe it will be less pain in your hip, just a thought.
405614 tn?1329144114 This is NOT the way side effects are from Avonex. If you took your shot on Monday and some of the symptoms you describe on Wednesday, it would not be from the Avonex. Avonex side effects, if they are going to occur, start not long after the shot and linger STRAIGHT THROUGH, until they end. Some people have little to no side effects. When I took Avonex for over 3 years, my flu like side effects, didn't let up until around the 3rd day after my shot.
Avatar n tn Hi anuj, I read ur question. I also diagnosed ms just few days ago, nd I also prescribed injection avonex. But I wish I could give u exact answer but I don't have any personally experience about avonex coz I don't start avonex yet but I know I will.Just m saying that i found on google that when ever u inject just relax, don't take any stress, u may get flu like symptom so take ibruphen, take rest how much u can, then of course, u can manage it.

233622 tn?1279334905 Even though you already feel like ****, YES you still take your Avonex shot. I know that it's probably going to be a difficult one with your flu-like side-effects already HAVING the flu, but you need to keep a constant level of the Interferon in your system. I know that's not what you wanted to hear...I'm sorry. But yes, you need to take your shot on schedule. Hope you are doing a little better with your injections. Hang in there honey. We are all hoping that you get better.
Avatar m tn I have been taking the Avonex shot for a few months now and have become accustomed to the effects of it. However tonight I have taken my shot and now I am having a tingeliing sensation going on. It's in my arm (R), both legs and also my abdomen. I know what to look for medically to be concerned but no where have I seen this as a side effect. Has anyone else experenced this?
1297805 tn?1276045905 well at 11am today will be my first shot of avonex..... i am scared...... not so much with the needle ..... just the possible side affects .... i am supposed to go camping lol..... and just in general..... anyone have stories of there first injection with avonex?????
Avatar m tn Not looking forward to the shot this afternoon.
Avatar f tn If any of your are taking or are thinking about or will be taking Avonex, if the Avonex nurse tells you to take it close to or at bed time. He/She is NOT playing around! I have been on Avonex for 6 weeks with no problems. Last night I fell asleep before I took my shot so I took it around noon after I got out of the shower. That was a a BIG MISTAKE! I was okay for most of the day, but I started feeling crappy (nauseous) around 4 or 5, by 8 pm I was making repeated trips to the toilet!
97654 tn?1214348650 Hi, I was recently diagnosed with MS and had my first Avonex injection Friday. Friday night was tough (fever, chills, pain and eventually heavy sweating) but I felt pretty good by Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon I started feeling kind of down and by Sunday morning I feel even more so. I can't decide if this is a result of the drug or just the situation as a whole.
1168718 tn?1464983535 Hi guys, has anyone not heard from the AVONEX people once they were put on it.??? I have heard from heath nurses, and today, got my WELCOME package, but still no product. I don't know what is going on, and of course the lady or the rep from Avonex is away on holidays till the 2nd. of Dec..... so, I guess we will do it next week ... Just to let you guys know, they stopped my antiobiotic IV today, and said that it was an MS attack. Wherever there are nerves, MS can strike.
Avatar f tn Stay well hydrated. Drink plenty of water, preferably, in the hours ahead of the shot and afterward. (Of course, it’s not a bad idea to be well hydrated all of the time.) … Use an over-the-counter drug such as Tylenol, Advil, Aleve, etc., or their generics. Take a dose ahead of time, a dose right before bed (if you follow the timing below) and another when you get up in the morning.
2005940 tn?1327726450 For those that take Avonex, how bad have the flu like symptoms been for you? I had been on Copaxone and just recently stopped because I have had it with the huge welts and lumps the size of eggs. I am tempted to just take a see how it goes attitude since my MS seems to be mild and not do the DMD's for the time being. My neuro brought up Avonex and told me about the flu like symptoms and I don't know if that or the welts and lumps are worse?
1396846 tn?1332459510 Copaxone we decided wasn't doing enough for me so we started Avonex, I got my first shot yesterday. So far so good It doesn't Itch or burn like the Copaxone it is just like a little pressure when you finally inject and then it's over. I was amazed and huffing and puffin over nothing. I was more scared than the SQ but I'm happy and once a week sounds better than everyday. On the copaxone I got to where I would give myself a day off occasionally...
Avatar f tn I'm just curious... Do Avonex injections hurt all that much? I do a subcutaneous Betaseron injection and I don't feel a thing, not even a pinch when I inject. I just wanted to keep an open mind about possibly switching DMDs but the thought of doing an intramuscular injection gives me the heebie jeebies.
Avatar n tn Hi I have a question- I have been on Copaxone for over 10 years and I am suffering with indented sites which can no longer let my shots be injected. My question is which of the ms treatments should I go to next? My MS dr. gave me papers on Avonex but the side effects is what I'm worried about. My Copazone has worked so well I'm afraid to change but just running out of places to give the shot. Thanks for any reply's..
233622 tn?1279334905 An allergic reaction to the Avonex you will be taking, is VERY rare. It is no greater than ANY new medication you take. So try not to worry. You're getting yourself worked up unnecessarily...really! I do have a couple "tips" for you about Avonex and the preparation for taking your shot, if you don't mind me letting you know. (I used to take Avonex for three years, so I am not talking out of both sides of my mouth here.
5644375 tn?1371561016 Thank you , I could not imagine doing a daily shot which is the ONLY reason I went with Avonex, but if I can't tolerate the flu-like symptoms I will certainly deal with the daily injection. I appreciate your help.
1396846 tn?1332459510 One thing to keep in mind is that if really necessary, you can change your Avonex schedule a bit without any negative effects. You can do your shot up to 2 days early or 2 days late, then go back to your regular schedule. Not recommending that, of course, but on a one-time basis it won't hurt anything. Got this straight from Avonex. If Avonex doesn't seem to be working for you, I wouldn't conclude right away that you're in a progressive stage of MS.
1125401 tn?1262898927 I have been on copaxone for little over a year its not working for me so my neuro has asked me to try avonex. My avonex nurse is coming this evening but I am wondering how long you actually gave it to get the symptoms of the shot to calm down. I am crossing everything to hope I dont get the flu symptoms so bad but we will see. I have a husband that works away and 3 small kids to care for, I dont want to be in bed all weekend when its the only time we get to spend as a family.
233622 tn?1279334905 Does Avonex cause a lot of leg weakness and aching? Or is that something more associated with MS itself?
