Common Questions and Answers about Avonex injector

avonex

1475492 tn?1332884167 Torikat, are you taking Avonex or Rebif? Avonex is injected into muscle and (I believe) only approved for self-injection using the thigh. Sidesteps, I do think you should (at a minimum) call the nurse who does your injection teaching. A review of technique and sites never hurts. With an exam and live review the nurse might be able to discover the reason you have had problems since starting to use the auto-injecting technique.
Avatar f tn Oh my goodness! I am so excited. Someone just posted a video for an Avonex self-injector. Of course it has yet to be approved by the FDA. Hopefully soon. Although an oral med or better yet one that comes in a hip flask might be better!
1896537 tn?1381900009 I agree with TLC, If you have trouble with handling the needle, you should use the auto injector. You will probably need to anyway, because since you are going to be injecting everyday you will need to use all your injection sites. Some of them are very challenging with the auto injector... Alternatively, I recommend Avonex. It's only once a week, so maybe the liver problems are reduced? And the flu symptoms aren't that bad.
Avatar n tn I just called my local pharmacy to get the price of my Avonex prefilled injector pens. For a one month supply which is 4 pens it cost $20, 456.00! That's $245472.00 a year! Thank God for insurance. With insurance I pay an $80 co-pay. We need a cure!
382218 tn?1341181487 However, I have noticed that sometimes, when I pull the cap off of the syringe by pulling off the gray end of the auto-injector, a couple of drops of medication will come out of the syringe before I can get it injected. And sometimes after the injection when I pull the needle away, there is a bit of the liquid on the surface of my skin. I mentioned it to my caseworker at Rebif and she was surprised this was happening.
Avatar f tn s been thigh from day 1. The first 2 weeks then the nurse watched me inject (I used the Avonex auto-injector, which injects the needle in for you, and you then press down the syringe yourself). I was fine. I then tried to do it by myself without the nurse, and I also decided to do it without the autoinjector, which was a bad move! I injected but got really scared of the whole thing (my injection technique wasn't quite right, it turn out...
Avatar f tn t inject daily so Copaxone was out. Then the needle with Avonex was too big, nor was there an auto inject so Avonex was out. Rebif has an auto injector & it is only 3x's a week, which is the medium of the other two. So far no major side affects. Two weeks ago I thought I was having a reaction to the meds so I skipped two injection days. I resumed the injections on Wednesday & so far no reaction. I've been on Rebif since April and am still getting use to sticking myself.....
Avatar f tn Hi there, Sounds like you may have some bruising going in. Do you use an auto injector? I don't think you need to stop, you just may have to adjust spots or injection technique. Hips and stomach are my best spots, and yes, I do have some soreness too but only once in awhile in my thigh. I only feel it if I push on the spot. So, it doesn't bother me because it's spots that don't get pushed too often. Question for you - are you injecting high in your thigh?
956292 tn?1334054869 Hey all...Just wanted to throw this out there. I am on Avonex and started the Avonex pen about 2 months ago..I noticed my last shot I bruised up. I bruised one time before with syringe.. Is bruising sometimes common when injecting??? Should I worry? Darn it I thought I had this down pat.
Avatar f tn I had forgotten that Plegridy even exists, so I looked it up for more info. Turns out it is made by Biogen Idec, who also make and market Avonex and Tysabri. It is a kind of interferon, and is administered via injection every two weeks. The doses are stepped up, with full levels reached after several weeks.

333672 tn?1273792789 It is true that the four drugs currently approved in Canada for modifying the progression of MS (Avonex, Betaseron, Copaxone and Rebif) must be injected. These drugs are ineffective if taken orally, as they become inactivated or destroyed in the gastrointestinal system before taking effect, or becoming absorbed into the bloodstream." http://www.msanswers.ca/QuestionView.aspx?
739070 tn?1338603402 How many of you using Avonex, never injected yourself but had help from family members? Also, what is your opinion of the new pen?
2068716 tn?1372423144 I have recently stopped using Avonex due to side effects and have done a lot of reading on alternatives. My neuro suggested Copaxone or Gilyena. I am leaning toward the Copaxone and am reaching out to you for your experiences with this treatment. 1. Side effects 2. Site reactions 3. Auto injector or not 4. Length of time on the med 5. Injection process (cold or hot packs etc) 6. Do you rotate sites 7. Any other info that may be helpful Thanks!!
1140169 tn?1370185076 Hi Mike, I can not answer as I take Avonex - Autoinjector as I swtiched from syringe....really just wanted to say hello...how are you. I CAN say although I inject in muscle for my med...I am kinda torn and like both.. BUT HEY!!! Hi and how are you!
198419 tn?1360242356 I have been on Avonex and am now on Copaxone. With the Avonex, it is exactly how Quix describes. The needle really does go in, like going through butter. I too have hit some small blood vessels while injecting during those years and had a spurt of blood shooting into the air. Scared the dickens out of me. I applied pressure to the site and only had slight bruising for a couple days after injection.

1140169 tn?1370185076 I was just wondering what devices other people use to inject their DMD. I'm on rebif and I use the RebiSmart injector. That's what they sent me and no one asked me what I wanted, but I'm glad because it's very easy to inject with.
1307298 tn?1305946851 I called SS today and they told me not to use that injector and they are sending me a new one ASAP. They asked for the lot number on the injector because the company tracks any problems with the injectors. She didn't say whether or not this was a common problem. Until I get it, I will have to give myself the shot the "regular" way -- never done that before -- except in practice with the training nurse. Wish me luck!
1158582 tn?1262951618 t seem to matter if I use the auto injector or not. I am worried I am not getting the full dose of med because of this? Should I be concerned? Is it something I am doing differently and just not realizing I am doing it? I recently switched from Rebif to Copaxone but I was having the problem with Rebif before I switched about 50% of the time now it seems to be increasing.
Avatar f tn Has anyone else gotten the new Rebidose injector? I just noticed there is no way to adjust the depth setting. I was at setting 1 on Rebif. I'm a nervous wreck about injecting tonight, because at 76#s, I have no fat.
