Common Questions and Answers about Avonex in india

avonex

Avatar n tn I find a source online that says in 2008 Avonex was Rs 9,000 per vial. Please call your Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI) and see what advice they can share. People on avonex have very good luck with slowing their disease, I hope you will do well on it, too!
Avatar m tn My doctor offered me AVONEX for that and I used AVONEX for almost 1 year. But about 6 months back, I felt some slight disability on my left side. I cannot move my left leg properly after about 15 minutes walk now. I don't now it is again symptom for MS or not. Is there any body here to help me. I really appreciate any answer. BTW, I am right handed.
Avatar m tn Dear Maria, I am not familiar with treatments available in India. But worldwide the accepted treatment would be for you to have a disease modifying drug - at present there are four standard ones - Copaxone, Rebif, Avonex, and Betaseron. All of these are injections. They may or may not help to slow the progrression of your disease. There are new drugs beings worked with too - one is Tysabri, which is an intravenous drug that is given monthly. You might ask about that.
Avatar f tn I recently decided to switch from Avonex to Copaxone. I was on Avonex since '97 and had come to the end of my rope as far as losing a day every week. I have been on Copaxone since the end of April and there are negatives, i.e. the site reactions (itchy, swelling) BUT I just keep telling myself I am not sick a day a week, I don't lose a day a week, and that makes me able to handle it.
Avatar f tn I'm sorry you feel so poorly. I haven't started any disease modfying drug yet, that will come in mid August. I've heard this about Avonex. The National MS Society website has some great info: www.nationalmssociety.org Here is what is a small portion of what is said about Avonex side effects: "Flu-like symptoms are a fairly common side effect during the initial weeks of Avonex treatment. It is recommended that you take your Avonex injection before bedtime.
97654 tn?1214348650 Hi, I was recently diagnosed with MS and had my first Avonex injection Friday. Friday night was tough (fever, chills, pain and eventually heavy sweating) but I felt pretty good by Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon I started feeling kind of down and by Sunday morning I feel even more so. I can't decide if this is a result of the drug or just the situation as a whole.
Avatar n tn is cryoablation available in india?......
Avatar f tn (not that he could help it if things were bad) but the first thing he did when the quake hit was get a count there and check on everyone in India and get word to the spouses in the states. I am so mentally slow today I cant seem to put two and two together.
1125401 tn?1262898927 I have been on copaxone for little over a year its not working for me so my neuro has asked me to try avonex. My avonex nurse is coming this evening but I am wondering how long you actually gave it to get the symptoms of the shot to calm down. I am crossing everything to hope I dont get the flu symptoms so bad but we will see. I have a husband that works away and 3 small kids to care for, I dont want to be in bed all weekend when its the only time we get to spend as a family.
400099 tn?1282954864 Is anyone on avonex? My dr. wants to switch me to avonex, but with having lupus, I really don't want to go on an interferon. I'm on copaxone, now but because I have large welts on my arms he wants to switch me. I don't want to switch. Do I have the right to deny a new medication I feel would be detrimental to me?
5160872 tn?1385248794 Wow, I didn't see this one coming, as mad as this will sound, i had my fingers crossed that your abnormal LP meant it wasn't, so sorry to hear you've joined the club no one wants to join! Now dx with MS plus your resent dx of diabetes will be why your sx, are not the typical presenting sx's of MS, talk about being complicated but seriously no wonder you've been struggling so much with fatigue!!!
Avatar f tn Avonex ® Side Effects (interferon beta-1a) Decreased Peripheral Blood Counts Decreased peripheral blood counts in all cell lines (resulting in a reduced ability to fight infection), including rare pancytopenia (simultaneous decrease in the numbers of red and white blood cells) and thrombocytopenia (reduction in the number of platelets in the blood), have been reported in patients using Avonex ®. Cheers.........
439601 tn?1357860886 I am so sorry that you had this sudden attack and subsequent surgery. How are you doing? I don't think we have heard about this happening before. Personally I am on copaxone, but we have quite a few here who are on Avonex. I'm sure they will be keenly interested in what happened to you if it turns out to be the culprit. Did you report this to the people at Avonex or did the doctor? Avonex will hopefully be right on this to see if it was related.
Avatar f tn I've been on Avonex for 2.5 years and it's suited me well but I have just had a 4 week break. I then took my injection on Tuesday night and was strangely fine on Wednesday and Thursday but on Friday, Saturday and today I have lost about 50% of my strength from my left arm and leg. Is this likely to be a side effect from restarting the Avonex (muscle weakness) or a relapse?
Avatar f tn After being on Avonex for 1 1/2 years I have developed new side effects?? Red eyes with severe pain (in my eyes & behind my eyes) It started several months ago and now happens with each weekly injection. Has anyone here had to discontinue Avonex due to side effects?
Avatar f tn ve not been on Avonex, but for some reason that sticks with me. I imagine someone else who has started Avonex recently (in the past year) who has experience with their current protocol will jump in and let us know if that is right or wrong.. Panic is not good - you can always call the Avonex hotline and talk to one of the nurses if you have quesitons. They are available 24/7.
921525 tn?1248122687 We may have a few people here who've done both Rebif and Avonex, though not many. But even if we had a lot, their experiences might be very different from yours. There really isn't a good way to predict how any DMD will affect you in terms of side effects. I started on Copaxone but turned out to be violently allergic to it. That left the interferons. My doctor, like so many and I don't know why, refused to help in the decision-making, so I picked Avonex.
