Avodart vs finasteride

Common Questions and Answers about Avodart vs finasteride

avodart

Avatar m tn When I developed gynecomastia (which is minor and I ignore) I lowered the dose of AVODART to one twice a week which is 8/month (from 15/month). AVODART has a long half life. Will 8/month still work? I wrote to GLaxo who make Avodart and they said what you said "ask your physician". My physician is very busy and I don't want to waste his time. My next appointment is in June and I will ask at that time if I don't have an answer by then.
Avatar n tn Propose that your partner try Avodart. I think it really helps with prostate enlargement. That is what the television commercials say anyhow. Unfortunately it also can cause a large reduction in semen production. AND women wanting to become pregnant should NEVER touch the pill as it can cause birth defects if they are exposed at all to it. You can Google Avodart read all of this yourself from a variety of sites, including Avodart's manufacturer.
Avatar n tn Gleason 6 (3+3) 2 out of 12 cores positive (3% and 22%) PSA (08/08) 4.7 PSADT 3.34 yrs. Do you agree with general guidance for invoking active treatment vs. observation if another biopsy done in 04/09 shows increase in positive cores to 3 or more or if any one core shows 50%+ positive for cancer? Also, is there any current opinion regarding use of Avodart or Proscar while in Watchful Waiting mode?
Avatar m tn What is normal time to stay Avodart ? The doc give enough for 3 weeks but I would think I would need to stay on for longer than that. I have had no side effects as I know of and I believe it has helped. How long has others stayed on this ? Thanks for any help.
Avatar m tn I'm 68 years old and have had Cataracts for over 2 years. I've been taking Avodart for over a year. Should I stop taking Avodart and wait awhile before cataract surgery or will the informed Dr be able to work with my eyes? I've never taken Flomax and have heard the warnings from the commercial and read about Flomax. I'm concerned about any complications. I'm also pretty active. Can I still swim after surgery and what are the chances of the lens shifting or coming loose?
Avatar f tn Even getting older an cause it, smoking, taking various medications (not just avodart), gaining weight, etc. Do you find you also have erectile dysfunction? Avodart, unfortunately, is associated with these side effects. It's unclear though how long they will last. What does your doctor say? What prompted starting the med? Your psa looks pretty good.
Avatar m tn I am a 61-year-old, white male. In the past, I had been VERY heterosexually active. I’m not gay. I am now in an exclusive, monogamous relationship and have been for quite some time. Three years ago, I was diagnosed with BPH, and prescribed a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. Urine stream improved. Frequency abated. I asked my urologist to consider putting me on the standard dosage of Depo Testosterone, strictly as an exogenous source of free testosterone, due to malaise, fatigue, etc.
Avatar m tn Does taking Finasteride 1mg for long term for treating male pattern baldness , have any effects on baby.I've stopped Finasteride for over 1 yr after taking it for more than a yr.If i get married and plan to have a baby , will there be any genetic health problems in the new born.
Avatar n tn Then, even though the BPH questionnaire showed me to be nowhere near having it, the urologist wrote me a prescription for Finasteride. I have searched all over the web and several medical and medication reference books at the library and can find not a single place where it says that Finasteride has anything to do with the problem of blood in the semen. All I have read points to Finasteride lessening the symptoms of BPH, symptoms I do not have.
Avatar m tn I am suffering from BPH for the last 4 years and I am taking DUTASTERIDE (AVODART) and Alfuzosin . Unfortunately , these meds do not help much since few months ago. I also about a new procedure named: gat-goren (GG), that sounds as non-pervasive. Did anyone hear about the GG procedure and can share experience or knowledge about that ?
Avatar m tn Hi I have an AST Level of 97 and ALT of 204. Also a high WBC count 6 - 10. Should I be worried? I am 46 6'1" and about 195lbs. I was taking finasteride daily and a few supplements. Thanks so much for your help.
Avatar m tn 02 or less for 8 years and then began to slowly rise. At .03 PSA in 2011 my Urologist prescribed Finasteride to stop the conversion of dihydrotestosteone and the PSA dropped to .02 and remained there for several years. On a later visit to the urologist I commented on this drug to control my PSA and he vehemently denied it was for PSA control but said it was prescribed for urinary issues. That was not true-I had never complained to him about urinary issues.
Avatar m tn It depends on the test. Do you know if it is ELISA or Herpeselect?
Avatar m tn I say this because there are certain medications meant for men, like Avodart for enlarged prostate, that women are told not to even handle. They say so on the commercials for this medication. If women are told not to even handle Avodart, which would mean that it can be absorbed through the skin, I would think you may be right about the possibility of you absorbing the hormones from the IUD. But, I suspect some doctor may refute this, although I don't know why.
Avatar m tn Just a friendly question regarding this reply, if that's ok. If the anti-HSV meds work, does it mean that one has the virus? For example, undiagnosed pain diminishes when using Valtex = herpes?
Avatar f tn I have been to a urologist for this and upon a semen analysis, everything came back normal. I do take Finasteride 0.5mg every other day for my hair. Could this be the cause? He insisted that it was NOT the Finasteride (propecia). In addition, I asked if it could be low testosterone and he claimed that it was not the issue in this case. I'm an avid bodybuilder whom exercises 5-6 days a week.
