Avatar f tn In one huge survey, atorvastatin came out on top with the least side effects. Here is some info regarding your question which I found on the internet..... Atorvastatin 10mg reduced LDL by 30-40% = equivalent to 20mg Simvastatin Atorvastatin 40mg reduced LDL by 46-50% = equivalent to 80mg Simvastatin Starting doses for each of the two statins are ....
Avatar n tn I have used 10mg Atorvastatin for years with no side effects. The doctor is switching me to simvastatin which reacted badly with my liver in the past. Aim is to save money. Is it safe to buy Atorvastatin online ?
Avatar m tn Two years ago i developed extreme pain in my big toe and then over 2-3 months migrated to Knee, elbow, hand. One side only at a time. Extreme pain starting late afternoon/evening and subsiding 3-4am. Gout was initial thought but ruled out by several tests of the fluid drawn from multiple joints. It just went away and i am talking Sulfasalazine daily. Now two years later i am told out of the blue i am type 2 diabetic. Never in my family history. Also thyroid gland not producing enough.
Avatar f tn Typically Simvastatin is prescribed at 40mg but can be prescribed as high as 80mg daily but that will increase the risk of side effects. I would communicate new side effects with your doctor but try to push past the first few weeks, side effects should go away but be careful to report new issues.
Avatar n tn It is easy to find information regarding drug-drug interactions for omeprazole (Prilosec) and atorvastatin (Lipitor). The omeprazole appears to increase the bioavailability of the statin, increasing the risk of side effects. Does this mean that the interaction is like taking a higher dose of the statin, which would provide benefit for someone like me who only takes a low dose (10mg atorvastatin daily) and has no statin tolerance issues?
Avatar m tn since then i m taking the tablet regularly and now my trygleycerides level is 135 without any side effects. Please advise me whether i can discontinue taking this drug for some years to come or do i have to take it regularly life long.
Avatar n tn My mother has been put on Atorvastatin and within one week she has had extreme confusion and forgetfulness. This has been the only medical change. Is this a side effect from it and can they show up this quickly?
Avatar m tn In all honesty, your dad's numbers look pretty good! I know they want ldl under 100 but he's close. I'm sure you are a bit worried that they are inching up. --- this could be as simple as he was tired for a few days and didn't exercise before the test. AT the next reading, make sure he is doing the life style things. If it is still higher and still inching up, then by all means, you can consider a cholesterol lowering medication.
7569019 tn?1460135460 This is rather complex my dear. You're suffering from some significant drug side effects AND drug interaction effects and that's why your recent drug adjustments were made in an attempt to correct, something which should have been prevented Potassium along with sodium regulate & control, more or less, the delicate balance of intra and extra-cellular fluids.
2206149 tn?1342693017 My mother is taking Atorfit 10 (Atorvastatin 10 mg) for 3-4 years now. I searched for its side effects online and found that it has a number of them starting from constipation, flatulence, diarrhoea, chest pain, nausea, skin problem and many more- all of which she has had in the last 2 years at some time or the other. And yes, there were also 2% chances of arthritis as well. This means that she has been getting the side effects of the drug.
Avatar n tn I would deff tell your doctor about that...
Avatar n tn Does anyone know about the side-effects of other statins that I might take instead ? Do some of them have less effect on bladder, or are they all problematic. I'm doing my part: I do not eat or drink for at least 2.5 hours before bed, I avoid alcohol, tea, and coffee. Any advice gratefully welcomed -- my cardiologist only cares about my heart, not concerned about my bladder and sleeping .... Thanks !
Avatar m tn No problem with traveling, but you should go back to your cardiologist for the pain in writst and knees, they can be a side effect to atorvastatin and also the warning of bigger problems, he should test your blood to see your levels of creatin.phosphoquinase to rule out rabdomeliosys.
Tbd So my cholesterol is on the high side - 228 - and my doc is starting to talk about statins. I don't want these because of all the possible side effects. I eat fairly well. Any help?
Avatar m tn I had diabetes (type II) in the year 2004 and mild hypertension in the year 1996.My doctor has prescribed the following medicines from time to time.
Avatar f tn You don’t mention dose and you make no mention of any side effects. Both drugs in Rosvin F (statin and fibrate) are generally well tolerated. Neither are drugs one takes “for a month.” Rather, they are lifetime drugs that will keep you in tip-top CV health with more benefit correlating with duration of treatment. If you discontinue treatment, all your lipid levels will return to where they were (unless you have made HUGE lifestyle changes).
Avatar f tn Side effect of this drug can be muscle pains and diabetes, among other serious effects. This drug is controversial and the benefits are questionable, particularly among women and people who have never had a heart attack. Is your cholesterol very high? You can address this again with low carb / keto diet. If you are taking the meloxicam to address the side effects of this drug then it would probably be rational to discuss stopping both with your doctor. Thyroxine is for hypothyroid.
Avatar f tn If you have had a heart attack statins are good but find one with lower side effects. Check all your meds to see which can cause higher cholesterol. Liver and intestines produce cholesterol. Look into Vitamin D3 level of 50 alpha lipoic acid and milk thistle to detoxify liver. Probiotics with most meals and magnesium in the P.M. if you have healthy kidneys. Take Care!!!
8793992 tn?1400079332 Tonact is Atorvastatin a drug in the group of statins which is used for high cholesterol. It is usually a safe drug. Main side effects are elevated liver function tests and and a condition called rhabdomyolysis. But these are not very common. Stopping the medication will depend on your cholesterol levels after taking the medication and your other problems like high BP, diabetes, family history of heart problem etc.
Avatar f tn In 19 study subjects, administration of a single 20 mg dose of atorvastatin following pretreatment with telaprevir 750 mg every eight hours for 7 days increased the atorvastatin peak plasma concentration (Cmax) and systemic exposure (AUC) by an average of 10.6- and 7.9-fold , respectively, compared to administration alone.
Avatar n tn what shall I do as i also fear from various side effects of medicines including Kidney failure etc.Pls pls Help and suggest something.
Avatar f tn It is supposed to help greatly with heart function and energy, I have heard. Does anyone here take it or any professionals have opinions on this? Thanks.
Avatar n tn Two recent trials have compared the clinical outcomes of intensive lipid lowering with atorvastatin 80 mg/day and standard lowering with pravastatin 40 mg/day. In the Pravastatin or Atorvastatin Evaluation and Infection Therapy (PROVE IT) trial, patients with acute coronary artery syndromes were enrolled, and pravastatin lowered the low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol to 2.46 mmol/l, whereas atorvastatin lowered it to 1.60 mmol/l.
Avatar f tn I was on atorvastatin which was not helping. Ezetimbe 10mg is just as effective with no side effects. The aim is to have as few toxins as possible. However, my consultand advised me not to stop drinking coffee, of all things, he said at lease two cups per day as this has scientifically been proven to help prevent cancer in the liver which is important in our case as the nodules that form in the liver with this disease can turn cancerous sometimes.
