Avatar m tn Hey, I've just been diagnosed with ADHD and I'll be taking Atomoxetine. I was a user on speed awhile ago and when I was on I felt established, in control, I could concentrate and express my inteligence.
Avatar f tn Over the past several years however, exciting research from several institutions including Yale have discovered that in fact the human brain retains the ability to grow new neurons (neurogenesis) throughout our entire lifetimes. Factors known to enhance the neurogenesis, specifically in the hippocampus, an area of the brain involved in memory function, include the important brain fat DHA, caloric restriction, and mental as well as physical exercise.
Avatar m tn Well, Strattera is "Classified as a norepinephrine (noradrenaline) reuptake inhibitor, atomoxetine is approved for use in children, adolescents, and adults. However, its efficacy has not been studied in children under six years old.
Avatar m tn I used to take melatonin for neurogenesis 10mg during the day as well as 10mg before bed for about 4-5 months. I didn't know it was harmful to be taken during the day. Are there any health effects I should be worried about now almost 2 years later?

Avatar n tn Hi. There is no current study that prohibits Atomoxetine (Strattera) users to take creatine supplements. However, caution should be made when taking supplements, since both drugs can alter kidney function and cause urinary symptoms (e.g. stones, dysuria) when not taken properly. I suggest that you ask your doctor first if these are safe for you to use. Thanks for asking.

Avatar n tn In the new study, senior co-author Crews and co-author Nixon found inhibition of neurogenesis, or brain cell development, during alcohol dependency, followed by a pronounced increase in new neuron formation in the hippocampus within four-to-five weeks of abstinence. This included a twofold burst in brain cell proliferation at day seven of abstinence.
Avatar n tn Has your daughter tried a non-stimulant medication such as Straterra (atomoxetine)?
20003388 tn?1515166040 Every time I try a medication that has a reuptake effect on norepeneprhine I get this mild burning sensation on the left side of my chest. So far I have had this happen with Atomoxetine, Venlafaxine, Bupropion and now Nortrypytiline. It isn't anxiety, a panic attack or heartburn, just a dull, moderately uncomfortable, burning sensation. I'm fine with all the SSRI's and medications like Rexulti. It's just the ones that affect NE.

I have been researching and collaborating with different scientists, experts in the disease and my program just got awarded a grant for Parkinson disease. Alzheimer's affects a really important structure of the brain called the hippocampus, area responsible for short term memory.
Avatar m tn Hi there and thanks so much for posting this interesting question. Sorry to hear about your bump. You did the right thing trying to get tested and see what exactly was going on thanks to that wise decision you may have prevented a more serious injury. The most important is that you stopped that bleeding.

Avatar m tn Studies show that morphine negatively impacts neurogenesis. Probably not good to be on with a brain injury other than if extreme pain is involved. Mindfulness training can work for less severe pain and had positive mental side effects. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar m tn Throughout my life I have been taking a medication called Atomoxetine for the treatment of ADHD. One of the side effects of this medication was that it would always cause my penis and scrotum to retract as if they were extremely cold all the time throughout the day - causing me to have to take hot or warm baths to temporarily solve this.

Avatar f tn Interestingly, the generation and flow of cells changes in response to signals from anatomically remote areas of the brain or even from the external environment of the organism, therefore indicating that subependymal neurogenesis—as a system—is integrated in the overall homeostatic function of the brain." Seriously, i wouldn't be concerned. Cheers..........
620923 tn?1452915648 now latest studies are showing how we can improve plasticity in the cerebellum and also neurogenesis. As you may know the cerebellum is involved in many motor functions but especially in balance, coordination and motor planning so i would like to suggest few exercises for you and please let me know how you feel since I would love to help you: - From a seated position: Raise opposite arm and leg to the side. Make sure you don't do any overhead movements. Do it five times each.
Avatar f tn I Have some slight numbness in the lower part of my left leg and a minimal amount in my thigh, how long will it take for neurogenesis to completely restore complete feeling , it's mostly annoying. Thanks to all in advance that respond.
Avatar n tn Many primary care providers treat symptoms of ADHD with stimulants or alternatives such as Atomoxetine (Strattera). Often, physicians and psychiatrists will prescribe stimulants to treat symptoms after they conduct a diagnostic interview with you and/or perform an examination to rule-out other factors that could be creating these symptoms (such as a mood disorder or thyroid problem). Stimulants are generally considered to be very safe, though side effects can be unpleasant.
