Avatar m tn Hey, I've just been diagnosed with ADHD and I'll be taking Atomoxetine. It's the non - stimulant type, I was thinking the stimulant form of medication would suit me better with such as an Amphetamine based one. I was a user on speed awhile ago and when I was on I felt established, in control, I could concentrate and express my inteligence.
Avatar m tn Classified as a norepinephrine (noradrenaline) reuptake inhibitor, atomoxetine is approved for use in children, adolescents, and adults. However, its efficacy has not been studied in children under six years old. Its advantage over stimulants for the treatment of ADHD is that it has less abuse potential than stimulants,[2][3] is not scheduled as a controlled substance and has proven in clinical trials to offer 24-hour coverage of symptoms associated with ADHD in adults and children.

Avatar f tn ve had more jobs than my age and have been put on medications for depression and even biopolar disorder, when being A.D.D. was the real problem. I only figured out that I was A.D.D. because my friend gave me an adderall because I was super exhausted and she said it would wake me up (I don't usually take other peoples medication). The adderall had the complete opposite affect and I was amazed how calm I felt.
Avatar m tn * Nonstimulant medication, such as the antidepressant bupropion (Wellbutrin and generic) or atomoxetine (Strattera), which is not available as a generic.
Avatar m tn Hi guys, I hope someone is able to help me with this… I am currently taking Atomoxetine – a medication used to treat ADHD in adults. I take 40mg once daily in the morning and it really helps me to concentrate better and function the way I need to etc… One of the main issues I have is the effect it has on my penis and testicles.
Avatar n tn Hi. There is no current study that prohibits Atomoxetine (Strattera) users to take creatine supplements. However, caution should be made when taking supplements, since both drugs can alter kidney function and cause urinary symptoms (e.g. stones, dysuria) when not taken properly. I suggest that you ask your doctor first if these are safe for you to use. Thanks for asking.

Avatar n tn Usually, an antidepressant like an SSRI is prescribed and a benzo is given short term, until the side effects of the SSRI (if any) start to subside...and the SSRI starts doing its job. Also keep in mind that it takes generally 2-4 weeks for an SSRI to really start making a difference. For some people, it can take up to 6-8 weeks. Generally, the idea is...once the SSRI starts working, the need for the benzo will decrease automatically.
Avatar f tn m wondering if based on their experience, someone can tell me if their SSRI has helped improved their physical symptoms over time? My SSRI helps me to be more calm and positive, however I still have physical symptoms of panic and anxiety such as tingling hands and tight chest occasionally.
Avatar n tn but in all honesty it has changed my mood and made me think differently thus changing me eating and energy levels, and that is more likely to change weight not the pill itself, im not saying it can't im saying it is different for each individual and there individual drain chemistry and the drugs interaction with this...
Avatar f tn He suggested that this is autoimmune in nature and that an SSRI may help. i tried Prozac for a week once and some of my endocrine bloodwork went wacky (prolactin level was 165, normal is no higher than 30 and I was having hot flashes) Have any of you had any luck with an antidepressant in this class? My primary doc is reluctant as he says i am not depressed, although the situation can be depressing.
454371 tn?1221297385 The pharmacist told me that you are at a higher risk of seizure and serotonin sydrome if you take ultram and a SSRI and commented about wondering why the doctor prescribed it. My NEW doctor today told me there is no way you should use them both, and told me to ditch (flush) the ultram and that someone on an SSRI or SSNI should in no way be taking that medication with ultram or ultracet. I flushed mine down the toilet today.
488191 tn?1210285779 Taking an SSRI (Lexapro) and a benzo (valium) is normal. I was on a different SSRI and benzo together like you. Furthermore, many people report that when starting an SSRI like Lexapro, it tends to make them feel a little more anxious or on edge. In my experience when starting an SSRI, it did actually make me a little more anxious in the beginning while my body was getting used to it.
Avatar n tn I can tell you that I have many patients that safely take metoprolol and prozac (as well as other SSRI medications). I have not seen clinical interaction between these drugs. It is probably best to call your doctor to ask them if it is ok.
Avatar f tn There have been a lot of double blind controled studies involving weight loss or gain associated with SSRI medications and most of them have been proven not to effect the bodies metabolism. Older tri-cyclic antidepressants and Tetracyclic antidepressant cause weight gain. It is proven and a well known side effect. Many mood stabilizers can also cause weight gain.
Avatar f tn Actually, I think Tylenol and ibuprofen are mentioned -- I believe ssris warn of possible bleeding and bruising from nsaids, and both of the above are nsaids. I doubt it stops any of us from using them, but drugs are always going to present possible problems, and docs and pharmacists are pretty clueless about them. There's just too many of them, and most only happen to a minority of users, sometimes a small minority.
Avatar f tn What is your opinion on this matter? And what SSRI generic brand would work for my depression and most of all this terrible anxiety that I feel 24/7??????? (My insurance only covers generic) I need some kind of relief soon, this is such a dibilitating disorder...PLEASE HELP! do you think I need a new P doc? All I want to do is feel better!
Avatar f tn Zoloft, like other SSRI's, often makes anxiety worse before it gets better. Sometimes a doctor will prescribe something like Klonopin (which is basically a longer-lasting benzo like Ativan or Xanax) to take along with the SSRI for the first 2-3 weeks to help keep those temporary negative side effects at bay, then wean the patient off of them about the time the SSRI benefits kick in. Also, it is often recommended to "start low, go slow" with an SSRI.
Avatar m tn Now I have been taking SSRI (Zoloft/sertraline) for a month and a half, and have had three outbreaks since I started. Obviously I suspect a connection. I had a period of very frequent (every other week) outbreaks a couple of years ago - although I had had herpes for many years already then. When thinking about it, I wonder if it could have been at the time that I was taking SSRIs (Cipramil/citalopram) the last time...
