Parkinson's disease is a chronic, progressive neurodegenerative movement disorder. Tremors, rigidity, slow movement (bradykinesia), poor balance, and difficulty walking (called parkinsonian gait) are characteristic primary symptoms of Parkinson's disease.There is no particular age for the occurance of the disease . My husband has been taking 10mg of Aricept for 2 years now and I have not noticed any significant difference in his memory. Actually, my observation is his memory is becoming worse. I'm struggling with whether I should discontinue the medication since I don't see improvement and because it is quite costly. I also know Aricept is designed to slow down the dementia so if I discontinue it I'm wondering if he will become worse much faster.

Diagnosis Parkinson's in a someone in their 30's would generally be classed as early onset Parkinson's and because of the rarity of Parkinson's for that age group, misdiagnoses would definitely be a possibility. I've actually read statistics that put the misdiagnosis rate as high as 1 in 5 in general for Parkinson's.

In all probabilities, your cyst is an incidental finding when the MRI was done. Alzheimer's disease is the one you should focus on. Aricept is a good drug. You need to enroll in some Alzheimer's clinic / Memory Clinic. Have regular visits to the doctor.
I have tardive dyskinesia which is clinically similar to Parkinson's and I have tardive akathesia which is similar to restless legs syndrome but it would depend on the cause of it. If its clinically similar to Parkinson's, I did not find Bachlophen, Mirapex, Aricept and Requip to be of help but many people do. I was ruled out for Tetrabenzene and Namenda but those have shown to be of help.
Is it possible that I have Parkinson's all these years? No never been tested..

Isolated masseter muscle tremors can be seen in Parkinson's disease, but are rare. In my view, she should be examined for Parkinson's disease and efforts should be made to investigate further.
Please do not get disturbed by the mention of Parkinson's disease. The symptoms are only remotely suggestive of PD. Get an MRI of the brain done. It may help us detect any changes, may be unrelated to PD.
What i need to know is the muscle stiffness and also feeling of weakness and instability in the legs due to pituitary disorder or Parkinson's? How do i go about ascertaining this, could it be due to all the above? I have severe insomnia and generally feel very unwell, very tired, unable to walk far. I am a 56 yr old female who is/was a fitness freak, marathon runner and avid golfer, none of which i can do now.

is someone's habit learning ability affected by parkinson's disease? I think the comment in this link is saying that it was affected initially but they were still able to learn habits despite having Parkinson's; is that right?
She has moderate to severe short term memory loss and has been started on Aricept. She has also recently had an MRI of the brain.
Could you explain: "moderate diffuse cerebral atrophy and chronic white matter small vessel disease"?

They say now that Aricept binds receptors that would otherwise heal, so it's not good for MS - it's specifically for Alzheimer's. My new neuro was horrified when she learned I had been on it for five months.
I don't know anything about that - all I know is that before Aricept, I was in a gray mist, and after five months of Aricept, everything seemed to make more sense.
I see that there isn't much activity over on the Parkinson's Forum. I did some research to try to answer your question as I can see you are terrified by the prospect.
Your risk for early onset PD (under the age of 60) is very, very small small. There is a slight increase in risk if you have a sibling or a parent who had "early onset" PD. Instead of 1-2% risk for the general population, your risk would be 3 or 4%.
This is only if your sib or parent has "Early Onset.
