However, news is floting around saying that the sexual side effect comes from propecia is sometime not reversible. Asyesterday,he stopped his medicine. I am really worried if it has done any damage to him or not. m on propecia...however, my doctor (being pretty cool), prescribed me 5mg Finasteride (i.e. Propecia). I split the pills in half, which is pretty close to the dosage for Propecia. The bottle lasts me two months, and costs me $5 because finasteride is covered on my insurance. I'm 28 years old, soooo....the insurance company DID need my doctor to verify the prescription. But like I said, he is cool :) See if your doc will hook you up the same!
As you can see I sort of found my way back on this site ever since the last post in June. That being said, my side effects are still persistent and I don't know what to do. I have a lack-of to near complete loss of sensation in the penile gland(head) and ejaculations are underwhelming. The arousal and overall good feeling I once had is gone. I consulted my doctor and we had blood tests done.
I attribute my erection problems to the Propecia tablet that I take daily. As you know, Propecia is 1 mg. of finasteride. Propecia has been shown to cause side effects such as erectile problems in a small minority of users. Unfortunately, I appear to be in that small minority. Once my erection problems surfaced, I began looking for a solution. I do not want to stop taking Propecia because it has done wonders for my hair.

I know there are thousands of people who take antidepressants, but many people take Propecia and some people claim to have sexual side effects after they stop. There a scientific journals that have recorded patients with various persistant sexual side effects that do not go away after they quit as well. Are doctors not aware of these rare occurances???
that is why they do blood work and have us watch for things and let us know what changes are happening, and will work with us to stop the medicine if they are having side effects that out way the risk.

Saw Palmetto works like propecia but side effects are more severe than propecia. It blocks both 5-alpha reductase type I & II. so Testosterone does not convert to DHT, no DHT means no sexual function. Some people using SP also suffer from low total T and free T or in other words they are hypogonadal. The only solution is go on TRT for the life.

Of the three, the first two are not reversible, but they are treatable. Silent thyroiditis is also treatable, and as you will read in the link, it does go away in about a year.
The symptoms you mention can be associated with being hypo. Even though you are taking medication, it may not be enough, or it may be the wrong kind. T4 meds can work well, if you take an adequate dose and your body converts the T4 to T3 adequately.
This side effect is possible but not common...in some cases it is not reversible..better to ask your doctor for other medications that you can feel safe with and not have to worry about this...ask him re Paxil, or Zolfot or Celexa,...there are many.
5mg every other day for my hair. Could this be the cause? He insisted that it was NOT the Finasteride (propecia). In addition, I asked if it could be low testosterone and he claimed that it was not the issue in this case. I'm an avid bodybuilder whom exercises 5-6 days a week.
As I have already stated, it may be reversible damage i.e. once you discontinue the drug the effects over liver is reversed and it can be evident by monitoring liver enzymes regularly. Take care and regards.

Ethambutol may produce decreased visual acuity which appear to be due to optic neuritis and to be related to the dose and duration of treatment. The effects are general reversible when administration of the drug is discontinued promptly. Ethambutol may produce constriction of visual field central and peripheral scotoma, and green-red colour blindness which may be associated with retrobulbar neuritis .
) After a bit more of research on side effects I decided not to take finasteride so im looking into alternatives.
An alternative is Men's Rogaine 5% Minoxidil Foam, but i see minoxidil has some very small link with hepatites. Im not sure about the results of the below but it got me thinking.
