Common Questions and Answers about Appendicitis recovery swelling

appendicitis

Avatar f tn Visited UrgiCare Tuesday evening with constant pain and expanding abdomen. Dr. did CBC and urinalysis to rule out appendicitis and bladder infection. There was some blood in her urine so Dr. prescribed pain meds and dismissed us with "cramps" and a suggestion to follow-up with ped Dr. for anemia. On Wednesday Ped ordered CT with contrast of abdomen and pelvis which showed feces in the bowels and fluid in her abdomen. She prescribed milk of magnesia and a high fiber diet.
Avatar n tn About 2 weeks ago I went to the emergency room with severe pain in my lower right side. I thought it was appendicitis but a CT scan showed a dermoid cyst (teratoma 7cm X 5cm X 7.4cm) growing on the lower right side of my abdomen. The tumor was removed last Thrusday along with my right ovary and fallopian tube. Today is my 5th day post op and I feel pretty good.
Avatar n tn Hello, I am an otherwise healthy 39-year old male I would say, a bit of a hypochondriac I would say, hence this post …Back in 2004 I had surgery for appendicitis and after my surgery the strangest thing happened….The center-outer part of my left thigh started burning.

Avatar f tn I have recovered well but I am still having a good deal of swelling in the area of the skull flap. How long will this persist? How long will it take for the bone gap to fill in?
Avatar f tn I was just wondering what type of surgery they will need to do, how long the recovery time and hospital stay would be because Im only a junior in high school and I want to know how long I would need to be out of school.
Avatar m tn I have pain in the right side of my abdomen, near my belly button, it feels like I need to vomit. However I don't. It also hurts when I deep breathe. I have swelling in the abdomen too and its tender to the touch. Any ideas what this could be?
Avatar f tn Everyone has a different recovery time in terms of swelling. Some surgeries cause more trauma than others. The scar itself takes years to turn white and become less noticable. But, I noticed the swelling was much less at about three weeks post-op. If you notice any redness, heat or extreme itchiness, be sure to call your doctor. Infections do sometimes occur after surgeries and they can also cause swelling. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!!!!
Avatar n tn I am in my 19th week and got diagnosed with appendicitis 2 days ago. Did some labs and the results show I have inflammation going on. Am scheduled for an appendectomy and was told not to worry because precautions would be taken not hurt the baby. I was also informed that they would do some procedure to calm the baby down the night before the surgery. I am yet to know what kind of procedure it is they are talking about. My og/gyn is working with the surgeon on my case.
Avatar n tn You are correct that this is not an acute appendicitis, but there is a possibility that this is a chronic appendicitis. This is almost surely not an ulcer of the rectum as you don't have any of the same symptoms.
Avatar f tn Went to have first follow up tests and cath removal, but penis swelling was still way too much for that to happen. Set appointment out another 10-14 days in hope of swelling to subside enough. My doctor said because of the size of the stricture , and how invasive it was , taking longer to heal is not uncommon. Just curious if anyone else has gone through this and how the outcome went. I’ve noticed a big reduction in swelling in the scrotum but my penis is still really swollen.
Avatar m tn I binge drink once every month, sometimes I will go party once every 15 days, when I get bored. For a few years, I have been experiencing GERD, abdomen swelling, diarreah, and painful cramps in my lower abdomen, symptoms which become more present after drinking. I get pain about an inch down from my belly button, and to the right. I also feel pain when I notice transit on my intestine, specifically in that area.
Avatar f tn Any update on the swelling? I had a laparotomy on July 19th to remove a 16cm fibroid. After the first week there was virtually no swelling and I had a flat stomach, but now the swelling has increased dramatically to even larger than I was before the surgery. I'm wondering how long it will take for this to go down or if there is anything I can do to aid in the process? I've heard everything from several weeks to several months.

Avatar m tn not sure if it is a side effect of this surgery or if a nerve may have been affected somehow or it is your prostrate...so do ask your Dr about this as it may be something due to swelling and will clear in time....let us know what you find out.
Avatar f tn t be causing me my pain. She said my symptoms sounded like appendicitis and sent me to the hospital for a CT scan. The scan came back normal. The following day the pain increased and I went to the ER. They also saw the cyst on ultrasound and admitted me for further tests. Spent 4 days in that hospital with a colonoscopy done (also normal). I told them it may be a hernia and they called a gen surgeon to examine me.
Avatar f tn Let's see if this photo keeps. Sorry about the last post. Is this the type of "swelling" you had?
Avatar f tn I'd keep pressing for an appointment. The only think similar to that that I have had myself is an appendix inflammation. It wasn't acute appendicitis, just a chronic inflammation. That isn't the only thing that can cause similar issues, though. Try to get in if your doctor has a cancellation list. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Wishing you both well. Glad you went into the hospital when you did.
Avatar m tn I have not had diarrhea or constipation or nausea or vomiting. No bloating/abdominal swelling, and I have no inability to pass gas. The pain did not start from the center or the naval. I just woke up and it was already on that area. What can this be? I am scared it may be appendicitis but I feel like it is just from my fall yesterday.
Avatar f tn Did he rule out appendicitis? It IS missed diagnosed frequently. It can take up to 36 hours from the point of the first symptom to get really bad. I would get to your ER. Most blood work done early can make everything look fine. Please go to the ER. It may be other things but if it is your appendices you do not want it to burst. I hope this helps, see your doctor right away or go to the emergency room.
Avatar n tn What you describe could be a number of things, including pancreatitis, appendicitis, diverticulitis, ... or something else altogether. This set of symptoms doesn't seem to be the type one can afford to ignore. Pls see a doc/urgent care right away. Hope you'll write again to let us know how you're doing.
