Common Questions and Answers about Appendicitis misdiagnosed

appendicitis

Avatar m tn He felt around for my hernia, took note of my symptoms, and said that my hernia was basically healed and that he thought that I could have appendicitis. This came as a surprise. He said that if the pain got any worse within the next day or two, or if the pain didn't go away at all, then we should go into the ER. The pain got slightly worse and a lot more frequent within the next 2 days so we decided not to risk it and go into the ER.
Avatar n tn I had asked if it was appendicitis, but the doctor said it was not. But I am wondering what else it could be then or do you think the doctor misdiagnosed?
Avatar f tn I went to an aftercare and was told it could be appendicitis so they sent me to the er. The pain just kept getting worse and worse even at the er. They gave me a dose of hydrocodone and it did not even touch the pain. By now I was up to about an 8/10 for pain level. Then as the hour went on my pain became a 12/10 to the point where I was literally moaning and crying in pain in my lower right side all the way around to my back. They gave me two does of dilated at it did not touch it.
Avatar f tn So to begin, when I was 20 years old I started having RLQ pain for about two months before going to the hospital to get evaluated. At first they thought it was appendicitis. CT came back and advised appendix could not be seen very well due to inflammation. So I stay at the hospital for the next 5 days on iv antibiotics to lower inflammation. They release me and schedule another CT in 2 months. Gastroenterologist takes my case and we do a colonoscopy. Which leads to a diagnosis of crohns .

Avatar m tn My 12 y/o daughter just had her appendix and gall bladder removed within the last 5 weeks. I think the ER misdiagnosed the appendicitis, but that is another matter. Anyway, she has continued to be in considerable pain since the surgery with no signs of improvement. She has developed costrochondritis on her left side which causes her significant pain just under her left rib. She is not eating much and when she does, it causes her additional pain and makes her feel sick.
Avatar n tn What you describe could be a number of things, including pancreatitis, appendicitis, diverticulitis, ... or something else altogether. This set of symptoms doesn't seem to be the type one can afford to ignore. Pls see a doc/urgent care right away. Hope you'll write again to let us know how you're doing.
Avatar m tn It hurts to walk and I must sit down with great care, I have performed some of the tests for appendicitis such as lying supine with my right leg bent and pushing over to the left...this results in much pain. Having been an EMT for many years I understand this could be appendicitis, however, I am confused about the pain free lapses. I live in the middle of no where with poor hospitals about 2 and a half hours away.
Avatar n tn As far as I know, the most apparent symptom of appendicitis (inflammation of the appendix) is a dull pain in the stomach on the right side, that moves to severe lower right abdominal pain. http://www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/digestive-diseases-appendicitis The above website explains different symptoms that could accompany appendicitis.
Avatar n tn When I had appendecitis I woke up in pain with a lot of abdominal pressure and was admitted for surgery that day. It felt like I was really constipated or something (sorry TMI), and was nauseous. It sounds like the pain you are having is more likely related to the pcos. I have had ovarian cysts in the past and it felt a lot like what you are describing. I'm not an expert, just my personal experience.
Avatar m tn An appendix is usually on the right side of your stomach and you will usually run a high fever with appendicitis. However, if you are still concerned, you can call your doctor and ask to speak to a nurse.

Avatar f tn Now the next day my lower right stomach is pretty tender, nowhere else, just lower right side. Should I be worried about appendicitis? Could it be tender from extreme gas and bloating? Thoughts?
Avatar n tn Five and a half years ago, I started having horrible stomach pains. They were sharp and stabbing and got progressively worse, to the point where I couldn't eat or sleep. I finally went to the ER where they did scans and thought my appendix had burst. They planned an emergency appendectomy, but when they got in there they realized it was not my appendix, but there was a large mass of cells covering my appendix, which is what showed up on the scan.
Avatar f tn According to WebMD diagnosing appendicitis can be tricky: "Symptoms of appendicitis are frequently vague or extremely similar to other ailments, including gallbladder problems, bladder or urinary tract infection, Crohn's disease, gastritis, intestinal infection, and ovary problems. The following tests are usually used to make the diagnosis.
Avatar m tn He then took a screening CT in the lab and gave the report as Chronic appendicitis with 7mm thickness. Ficolith inside the appendicitis and advised to remove it whenever you feel free but not an emergency. The Gastroenterologist was not convinced and he asked me to take a Contrast enhanced CT. But the local doctor said it is not necessary and i don't have any acute episode and there is no such Chronic appendicitis.
Avatar m tn Hi, this could be ureter stone, right ovarian cyst or appendicitis. If pulse is more than 80 and blood shows high TLC counts, is suggestive of appendicitis. In case of ureter stone, urine usually shows infection and ultrasound is diagnostic, pain is usually radiating in nature. Well colon pain is colicky or dull in nature, do you have recent history of diarrhea?
Avatar n tn I have recently been experiencing right side pain and mentioned it to my GP. He sent me for a CT which confirmed mild appendicitis. Don't have typical appendicitis symptoms other than pain and some nausea. My doc says to get it taken out. I went for a consult with a general surgeon and he said he isn't 100% that's my appendix since I don't have all the acute symptoms. He said there is no such thing as chronic appendicitis and my doc says "oh yes there is". UGH...

I want to avoid the ER, doctors and GI’s I went through so many test and so many trips to the ER during the period of 3 months to finally find out my gall bladder was only functioning at 1.
Avatar f tn ve searched for my simptoms online. This way I found out about stump appendicitis and I got mortified it could be that. Could the CT scan have missed it? All the other organs seemed fine. Last year, I didn't develop fever or vomiting with my appendicitis, reason why it was hard to diagnose, especially because it was behind my ceccum (for 1 month doctors suspected ovary pain...until my appendix burst). Can this time be stump appendicitis and doctors mistake it for cysts again??
Avatar f tn They found it on October 15 when I went to the emergency room for what I thought was an appendicitis attack. I have had numerous surgeries for endometriosis including a hysterectomy. They left in the right ovary and I am regretting it, despite the benefit of not having to have hormone replacement treatment. I am 40 years old.

But from today morning I am suffering pain in the groin area which is similar to the pain I suffered for appendicitis I wanted to know that is the pain caused by Fungal infection or medicinal reaction which was provided for appendicitis. I have not experienced similar pain in groin area before and there is no blister or rashes.
