Common Questions and Answers about Appendicitis diagnosis test

appendicitis

Avatar f tn Your ill advised delays have largely ruled out appendicitis by passing the survival test. If your problem had been appendicitis it would be long past gangrenous and you would likely be dealing with an abscess at this point. My point is that not wanting to go see the doctor has absolutely no bearing on your actual problem. I deal with far too many patients with complications solely due to their delay in seeking help.
Avatar m tn Hi, appendicitis as such is more of a clinical diagnosis. In chronic appendicitis what we see may just be thickening of the bowel wall or appendix on a CT scan. But usually the image findings are correlated with clinical symptoms and blood tests. If an acute infection the neutrophils are raised and if due to tuberculosis, the lymphocytes are raised in blood counts.

Avatar n tn I have recently been experiencing right side pain and mentioned it to my GP. He sent me for a CT which confirmed mild appendicitis. Don't have typical appendicitis symptoms other than pain and some nausea. My doc says to get it taken out. I went for a consult with a general surgeon and he said he isn't 100% that's my appendix since I don't have all the acute symptoms. He said there is no such thing as chronic appendicitis and my doc says "oh yes there is". UGH...
Avatar f tn i am a 22 yr old girl, unmarried, i was having continuous pain for 2 days in my lower abdominal. today morning at 5 i had swear pain i went to the doc, they asked me for blood test, urine test n ultrasound, urine test showed some sign of appendix but ultra sound didnt, they sent me home n gave some pain killers! now i am developing the same pain again after about 20 hours, so i want to ask can it be appendicitis even if ultrasound doesnt show it?
Avatar m tn Hi, appendicitis is usually a clinical diagnosis. This is correlated with imaging studies and blood tests. The pain in appendicitis generally starts around the umbilicus and moves to the lower right quadrant of the abdomen. Now you can consult a general surgeon or a gastroenterologist for this problem. As we do not maintain a directory of doctors we may not be able to help you. You can talk to your insurance agents they may be able to direct you appropriately. Regards.
Avatar f tn HI, Right lower quadrant pain can be due to ovarian cyst or appendicitis. The intermittent nature of the pain is typical of appendicitis. However it can also be found when the ovarian cyst undergoes torsion. The fever suggests the possibility of infection. Hence it would be best to see your Doctor again. Once a correct diagnosis is made the appropriate treatment can be initiated. The answer is based on information provided.
Avatar m tn 4. Appendicitis goes with nausea, vomiting and raised leukocytes in the blood. Appendicitis is painfull at any time you press on area. Bouncing sign is present: lye down on the back and press deeply sopmewhere on your lower LEFT abdomen, then release the pressure quickly. In peritonitis or appendicitis you should feel a sharp pain on the LRQ area. Peritonitis would also show marked inflammation in the blood.
Avatar m tn One thing that I will like to say is that sometimes diagnosis of appendicitis is tough because of the position of the appendix and other conditions which may mimic appendicitis like Meckel’s diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease and kidney diseases. Moreover, other conditions which I have mentioned like irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease(Crohn’s disease) and kidney diseases also have to be excluded.
1193880 tn?1264886865 MRIs are not adequate for appendicitis. The white count in appendicitis is generally high. You also get a fever, but appendicitis can start near the belly button then move to the right lower side. I think you should get her to a specialist and or get her to a doctor who will take her blood counts and possibly a CAT scan because it is dangerous if it bursts.
Avatar n tn I have had my gallbladder removed lapo 2 weeks ago… I’m NOW expercing this sharp pain on my right lower abdominal area by my belly button, what are my chances of having appendicitis after gall bladder surgery? I want to avoid the ER, doctors and GI’s I went through so many test and so many trips to the ER during the period of 3 months to finally find out my gall bladder was only functioning at 1.
Avatar m tn Hello, My case can look rather particular in fact it is the second time in ten years that I have to undergo surgery due to ovarian cysts ruptures on my right ovary and every time the doctors in ER first think of an acute appendicitis which make them run a quantity of useless tests while I am in pain and makes me even more doubtful and worried.
Avatar f tn when the pain became too severe and went to the ER for assistance. He was given an antispasmodic and pain medication. It was not appendicitis, of course. The pain continued. Fecal sample was negative for parasites. His doctor took urine, blood, and had a CT scan performed yesterday. The WBC was "slightly elevated", as it was a year ago, and lymph nodes in his abdomen were slightly enlarged. His abdomen was tender to pressure in one location yesterday.
Avatar n tn Hi For about ten hours now, I've have a dull ache that comes and goes in my lower right abdomen. It's not currently severe, just a dull ache for about five seconds every two or so minutes, not continuous. Anybody else experience this? I read that it could be a symptom of IBS/IBD, which would make sense as I'm currently being tested for those conditions. I'm just terrified that it's early appendicitis as I've never experienced it before.
Avatar n tn I had it checked nearly a year ago, and it does not go away. The doctor merely did a physical on-site diagnosis. Should I ask for an MRI or ultrasound? It seems abnormal that it continues. Sometimes it spreads across to left side as well, but usually it is localized on right side. Sometimes it shoots up and down my leg.
458511 tn?1206465658 I spent Friday night in the er for suspected appendicitis, after 13 hours found out I have a complex cyst on my left ovary. I have never had problems like this before, and really didn't ask any questions. They have referred me to a gyn surgeon. What questions should I ask him to find out the specifics of what is going on? Ovarian cancer does not run in my family, though every female over 45 has been treated for breast cancer.
Avatar f tn Since health insurance limits test and such I want to be sure we are exploring all options. I feel full quicker and feel bloated and a little uncomfortable after eating. Any thoughts?? Thank you in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!! This discussion is related to Did I have a hernia or is it IBS?.
Avatar f tn Monitor your syptoms cause nausea, back pain, pain on right side and bloating r also symptoms of appendicitis. I had appendicitis while i was pregnant so didn't notice the symptoms of appendicitis cause i just thought it was pregnacy symptoms.if pain gets worse or you get fever go to doctor.
554409 tn?1218403468 I was diagnosed with IBS in 2004, and seemed to be dealing well with that diagnosis until 4 months ago, when I began to get severe episodes of lower right abdominal pain, that seems to be nothing like the IBS I had previously. I have now gone to the doctors and gastroenterologist several times. After 2 abdominal CT scans, a pelivic ultrasound, and a colonoscopy with biopsies, everything seems to come back normal, except for some blood labs.
Avatar n tn In gall stones the pain start in the upper middle or upper right abdomen, and is it brought on by greasy or fatty foods.Pancreatitis can be caused by alcohol consumption or gall stones. Diagnosis is by abdominal ultrasound and serum amylase and lipase levels. Treatment is started after consultation from a gastroenterologist. The morning stiffness and the pain in the joints is not related to the abdominal pain.It may be due to fibromyalgia or arthritis.
Avatar n tn Recently I saw a doctor about some lower abdominal pressure. This pressure doesn't really hurt so much as it is annoying and uncomfortable. A description of the feeling is: like a gas moving around or a bowel movement yet no real need to pass gas or use the bathroom. It can also be compared to a feeling of fullness, like after a big meal, yet localized in a small area of my abdomen (lower-right side 2 inches to the right of my belly button).
Avatar m tn showed that I had borderline appendicitis due to the appendicitis not filling with the contrast fully and the mesenteric lymph nodes of the area being “shoddy”. I was given Cipro and Flagyl for two weeks to see if that would fight the infection. After an ultrasound, they found my appendix healed completely. While the yellow explosive diarrhea has returned to coming 2-3 times/week (rather than the daily occurances) the pain in my lower right abdomen and back continued at the same intensity.
Avatar m tn Welcome to the gastroenterology community! A blood test cannot rule out an appendicitis, but I don't believe this is what you have. I would recommend talking to a doctor if you continue to have symptoms, but not worry about the blood tests unless you are having more symptoms.
Avatar f tn Doctor thought something wrong with spleen ordered ultrasound upper gastro not the reproductive system (spleen, kidneys, etc...76700) test was normal. Doctor still wants to check for appendicitis but hasn't called me back to order test which I would think is an emergency if it is the cause of cramps which at first were pretty bad and now are mild. I have never had symptoms this long.
Avatar f tn Saw the nurse in the local practice and a urine test was clear. A few days later I noticed a tiny amount of blood when urinating so I went back and this time a urine test detected blood and leukocytes. I was prescribed an antibiotic, but a week later symptoms were still there. Pain then started around 4 weeks ago in my upper right abdomen and in my right hip. It wasn’t excruciating then but it was enough for me to visit my doctor.
