Common Questions and Answers about Appendicitis diagnosis score

appendicitis

Avatar m tn These 2 symptoms only represent 2 points or less out of ten on the Alvarado score, which is used for diagnosing appendicitis. 7 points are necessary for an acute appendicitis dx. My opinion, get this evaluated asap.
Avatar m tn Hi, appendicitis as such is more of a clinical diagnosis. In chronic appendicitis what we see may just be thickening of the bowel wall or appendix on a CT scan. But usually the image findings are correlated with clinical symptoms and blood tests. If an acute infection the neutrophils are raised and if due to tuberculosis, the lymphocytes are raised in blood counts.
Avatar f tn According to WebMD diagnosing appendicitis can be tricky: "Symptoms of appendicitis are frequently vague or extremely similar to other ailments, including gallbladder problems, bladder or urinary tract infection, Crohn's disease, gastritis, intestinal infection, and ovary problems. The following tests are usually used to make the diagnosis.

Avatar n tn I have recently been experiencing right side pain and mentioned it to my GP. He sent me for a CT which confirmed mild appendicitis. Don't have typical appendicitis symptoms other than pain and some nausea. My doc says to get it taken out. I went for a consult with a general surgeon and he said he isn't 100% that's my appendix since I don't have all the acute symptoms. He said there is no such thing as chronic appendicitis and my doc says "oh yes there is". UGH...
Avatar m tn I just recently been diagnosised with herpes 2 by IGG test from Labcorp with a score of 2.6. I was negative for herpes 1. I was totally surprised by this seeing that I never had or noticed any symptoms. The only closest thing that I thought related to herpes was folliculitis in my pubic region which was confirmed by my doctor. My last sexual encounter was a year and a half ago when I stupidly had unprotected vaginal sex. This was my only sexual encounter.
Avatar m tn I believe so. However, the test needs to be valid. With a child with ADHD for example, its hard to get a good score due to the child's concentration problems. A good psyc that gives the child plenty of time can get fairly valid scores. If the child is just taking a timed test with little one on one interaction - I would question the results. The age of the child can also be a factor. I guess a good question is what do the child's teachers think. Do they believe in that IQ?
Avatar m tn 4. Appendicitis goes with nausea, vomiting and raised leukocytes in the blood. Appendicitis is painfull at any time you press on area. Bouncing sign is present: lye down on the back and press deeply sopmewhere on your lower LEFT abdomen, then release the pressure quickly. In peritonitis or appendicitis you should feel a sharp pain on the LRQ area. Peritonitis would also show marked inflammation in the blood.
Avatar f tn I am on the transplant waiting list with a MELD SCORE OF 10, At this point I have no major problems other than the encepalopathy which is somewhat under controll, with meds. Believe me Dr. I am in no rush. I would however like to know what to expect, as far as waiting time.
Avatar m tn One thing that I will like to say is that sometimes diagnosis of appendicitis is tough because of the position of the appendix and other conditions which may mimic appendicitis like Meckel’s diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease and kidney diseases. Moreover, other conditions which I have mentioned like irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease(Crohn’s disease) and kidney diseases also have to be excluded.
Avatar m tn Hello, My case can look rather particular in fact it is the second time in ten years that I have to undergo surgery due to ovarian cysts ruptures on my right ovary and every time the doctors in ER first think of an acute appendicitis which make them run a quantity of useless tests while I am in pain and makes me even more doubtful and worried.
Avatar f tn when the pain became too severe and went to the ER for assistance. He was given an antispasmodic and pain medication. It was not appendicitis, of course. The pain continued. Fecal sample was negative for parasites. His doctor took urine, blood, and had a CT scan performed yesterday. The WBC was "slightly elevated", as it was a year ago, and lymph nodes in his abdomen were slightly enlarged. His abdomen was tender to pressure in one location yesterday.
Avatar n tn Hi For about ten hours now, I've have a dull ache that comes and goes in my lower right abdomen. It's not currently severe, just a dull ache for about five seconds every two or so minutes, not continuous. Anybody else experience this? I read that it could be a symptom of IBS/IBD, which would make sense as I'm currently being tested for those conditions. I'm just terrified that it's early appendicitis as I've never experienced it before.
Avatar m tn Just recently been diagnosised with herpes 2. The test was done with IGG test from Labcorp with a score of 2.6. I was negative for herpes 1. I was totally surprised by this since I never had or noticed any symptoms. My last sexual encounter was a year ago when I had unprotected vaginal sex. This was my only sexual encounter. Am I pretty much an asymptomatic herpes 2 carrier? I heard that I could get a Western Blot test or BioKit to confirm this diagnosis if the IGG score was < 3.5.
Avatar n tn What has been shocking and hard to handle is his IQ score of 71. This is a low score, bordering on mental retardation from what we can tell. So, if a child has ADHD, I assume they won't test well in a neuro-psych evaluation? That being the case, what does that say about the IQ score? If we elect to put our son on stimulants and he was to have an IQ test repeated, could we expect a better score? Further complicating things, he had seizures last May and has been taking anti-convulsants.
Avatar n tn In gall stones the pain start in the upper middle or upper right abdomen, and is it brought on by greasy or fatty foods.Pancreatitis can be caused by alcohol consumption or gall stones. Diagnosis is by abdominal ultrasound and serum amylase and lipase levels. Treatment is started after consultation from a gastroenterologist. The morning stiffness and the pain in the joints is not related to the abdominal pain.It may be due to fibromyalgia or arthritis.
Avatar n tn t remember the exact score, I was so shocked). I was retested, and the second score was closer to a 2.0, and then a third time with a result of a 1.68. The tests were done within a month of each other. My Igm scores were all well within the normal range every time. I'm assuming the exposure was about 12 years ago. I recently saw a doctor who specializes in HIV, STD, and immune system diseases.

Thought I'd share our story with you in the event you too live in an area where you need a very high Meld score to get your transplant. You can check out this site for the transplant center reports around the country. You can be listed at more than one transplant center. http://www.srtr.org/csr/current/Centers/Default.
458511 tn?1206465658 I spent Friday night in the er for suspected appendicitis, after 13 hours found out I have a complex cyst on my left ovary. I have never had problems like this before, and really didn't ask any questions. They have referred me to a gyn surgeon. What questions should I ask him to find out the specifics of what is going on? Ovarian cancer does not run in my family, though every female over 45 has been treated for breast cancer.
Avatar m tn Hi, appendicitis is usually a clinical diagnosis. This is correlated with imaging studies and blood tests. The pain in appendicitis generally starts around the umbilicus and moves to the lower right quadrant of the abdomen. Now you can consult a general surgeon or a gastroenterologist for this problem. As we do not maintain a directory of doctors we may not be able to help you. You can talk to your insurance agents they may be able to direct you appropriately. Regards.

Avatar n tn I went to a consult section with other radiology (the 2nd Dr) to review my diagnosis mammogram and ultrasound results. The 2nd Dr thinks my diagnosis mammogram and ultrasound were not very clear, and his findings are most opposed to the 1st Dr. The 2nd Dr found: Left breast: - Calcifications at 12:00 and 3:00 areas, but are not very clear without magnification, and recommended to have a short interval follow up. - Did not report findings at 6:00 area.
Avatar f tn HI, Right lower quadrant pain can be due to ovarian cyst or appendicitis. The intermittent nature of the pain is typical of appendicitis. However it can also be found when the ovarian cyst undergoes torsion. The fever suggests the possibility of infection. Hence it would be best to see your Doctor again. Once a correct diagnosis is made the appropriate treatment can be initiated. The answer is based on information provided.
