Appendicitis and mesenteric adenitis

Common Questions and Answers about Appendicitis and mesenteric adenitis

appendicitis

Avatar n tn The condition typically occurs mainly in children and teens and can often mimic the signs and symptoms of appendicitis. Unlike appendicitis, however, mesenteric adenitis is seldom serious and clears on its own in a few days or weeks. It's suggested that it typically starts due to a virus, however, it can also have bacterial causes and it's when the cause is bacterial that it can be more problematic.
5154898 tn?1374773319 OK, I've been worried sick since about 4 days ago. It all started when i had a muscle spasm beside my belly button (right side), it lasted a whole day. I woke up the next day with a dull pain in the same spot, nothing really painful, just enough to worry me. Now, my lower front (right side), my right side and back on the right side has been aching.
Avatar n tn If you are constantly in fetal position, you need to seek prompt medical attention to rule out appendicitis, ileitis (e.g., Crohn's), colitis, mesenteric adenitis, kidney stones, kidney infection, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, ovarian cyst, ovarian torsion, ectopic pregnancy, pelvic inflammatory disease, and/or hernia.
Avatar f tn There are numerous causes of right lower quadrant abdominal pain, of varying levels of severity. These include appendicitis, mesenteric adenitis, ileitis (e.g., Crohn's), colitis, kidney stones, kidney infection, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, ovarian cyst, ovarian torsion, ectopic pregnancy, pelvic inflammatory disease, hernia, and/or cancer. You should see your doctor, as proper diagnosis depends upon clinical history, physical examination, and laboratory and/or imaging tests.
Avatar n tn Intestinal TB interests me... I have had an upper respiratory infection that will not go away. I've had it since March 11th. I've been to the doctor twice who said my lungs were clear and thought it was in my sinuses. Today, I feel like a wheezing in my throat area. Not lungs but throat area. Could this upper respiratory infection combined with the cat scan intestinal findings indicate abdominal TB and if so, how will it be found? Also, I am very scared about malignancy.
Avatar n tn 4 months ago she was hospitalized again for 4 days and her ulcer was rechecked and healed, so she was diagnosed with mesenteric adenitis. She is on 30mg of Lexapro a day. Protonix twice a day. She is 5'4" 170 lbs. She continues to have boughts of this immobilizing pain and we have consulted a hemotologist/oncologist -per our GI's suggestion - with no answers. She has missed numerous days of school -which she actually loves and is a straight A student.
Avatar f tn Everything seemed to be normal in the report except for some mildly enlarged mesenteric lymph nodes and region of the ileocecal valve normal except for a few adjacent mildly prominent nodes. What does that mean? I was diagnosed with microscopic colitis in 2014. And since October 2016 I haven't been right diarrhea mostly and just overall feeling of unwell.
Avatar f tn panniculitis. Mesenteric adenitis, adenopathy. Bilateral pelvic adenopathy. All organs normal. No appendix, gall bladder. PET scan - few, scattered precervical nodes SUV < 2.2. Some suggestion of increased attenuation central mesetery. Some degeneration mid & lower spine. No FDG avid malignancy. Colonoscopy - clear. Endoscopy - 3 small ulcers (asymptomatic). Any thoughts or suggestions?
Avatar f tn My 16 year old daughter has been suffering since April 2015 with constant nausea (but not being sick), acid reflux, dizziness, fatigue and slow weight loss (appetite was okay) it came on all of a sudden. She was admitted with suspected appendicitis in the September 2015 as she was having bad stomach pains/cramps sickness with a high temperature but it was diagnosed as mesenteric adenitis on a ultrasound scan. She has had a couple more episodes a few months later but never went to hospital.
1852495 tn?1319545790 I never heard of that either ,, Good luck to you Cindi
543435 tn?1282242679 Ovarian Cysts Benign....chronic apendicitis (took it out) mesenteric adenitis (a benign inflamation of the lymph nodes). Not quite sure how they diagnosed the last one since they didn't do any biopsies but i guess we just trust their higher education right? Anywho, take care everyone...and I will still be around reading the boards. Just send me a shout if I can answer any questions.
Avatar f tn Hi! I read with interest in your condition? My 16 yr old son has been having fevers, tired, and just 2 nights ago in the ER, they did a CAT scan which they diagnosed as "Mesenteric Adenitis"? Is that what you have? I lived in Chicago for over 30 years, and am most curious as to why you are coming to the Cleveland Clinic? Secondly, then why are you heading to Chicago? I have read so much recently, that I am totally confused, as to where I need to go first, then next?
Avatar n tn I have been sent to the hospital twice thinking it was appendicitis, but the ct scans show a normal appendix. It did however show a condition called mesenteric adenitis (sp?) which is swollen lymph nodes in my abdomen which apparently mimics appendicitis. I personally think the pain is caused by adhesions. I am just waiting for it to get too bad before I go in and have my insides cleaned up. lol My advice would be to be your own advocate.
Avatar m tn Stomach pains in children can be from thread worms or from their stomach glands becoming swollen by bacterial or viral infections (mesenteric adenitis). Sometimes they cannot pin point where the pain is and point to the stomach when in fact it can be somewhere else, like a sore throat or a headache. When he passes his stools, observe these to see if there are any white thread like worms present. Another sign is if you see your son scratch his bottom.
Avatar f tn Some of the common causes of pain in abdomen are hepatitis or hepatic abscess, cholecystitis, perforated duodenal ulcers, appendicitis, diverticulitis, adenitis, abdominal abscess or hematoma, inflammatory bowel disease etc. You must consult a gastroenterologist as soon as possible for proper examination with tests like ultrasound, blood tests, biochemical tests etc.
Avatar m tn I could have written this letter myself! My 13 year old son is exactly as your post reads. This morning they gave us a diagnosis of acid reflux. Acid reflux causes swollen colon & mesenteric adenitis? I am SO FRUSTRATED! Where you ever able to find an answer? I'm desperate to get my son some relief!
Avatar f tn My son had sudden onset symptoms causing a STAT CT scan to rule out Appendicitis. It did rule it out. They found Mesenteric Lymphadenitis present. No infection has been found in the blood stream, in fact only signs of inflammation. Other test are being run by Pediatrician, but still await results. 4 % of body weight loss in the past week. The pain just doesn't seem to want to subside. Do you have any thoughts on how I can be more proactive to help him??
Avatar m tn s been tested for Celiac disease, colitis, ulcers, food allergies, IBS, and has had 2 ct scans, xrays, endoscopy, and a colonoscopy. Every test has come back negative or normal. Low white blood count on every blood draw. One of the ct scans suggested mesenteric lymphadenitis, but we were told that should clear up in a couple of weeks. We're just shy of 13 weeks and we still have no answers. What else should I ask him to be tested for?
Avatar f tn the doctor was able to identify an infection from the CT scan known as acute mesenteric adenitis, and the ultrasound showed I have a 3cm complex cyst on my right ovary...he said i need to see my gynecologist and go from there..should I be alarmed?
Avatar f tn As a young child my daughter used to complain of tummy ache and one doctor did treat her with antibiotics saying that it was mesenteric adenitis. She had to be admitted to hospital one time with being so ill with a high temperature and confirmation of a bacterial infection. Whilst in hospital when she went to the toilet to empty the bowels, I was horrified to see a lot of threadworms in the toilet pan. As an young adult my daughter experienced the symptoms that you described.
Avatar n tn My teenage son has chronic mesenteric lymphadenitis with severe abdominal pain and nausea, unwanted weight loss, but without constipation or diarrhea. This has been going on since December 2015; the pain is debilitating such that his life is completely dysfunctional and he can not attend school or perform any daily activities.
Avatar f tn My 12 year old has been very ill for 7 months. His symptoms are severe lethargy, night sweats, weight loss (21lbs) and the biggest problem, severe pain in his abdomen. He has rebound tenderness and usually right quadrant pain, though it is also at times in the middle of his abdomen, near his belly button. He had his appendix out about two years ago, and the doctor after told us she doubted it was true appendicitis, but that he had alot of ascities in his belly.
Avatar n tn It could also be a periumbilical hernia that has got trapped resulting in small bowel obstruction or mesenteric ischemia. Early appendicitis too behaves this way and so does colitis. It could also be cystitis, urinary tract infection, diverticulitis or inflammatory bowel disease. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. A clinical examination followed by a CT scan of the abdomen should be done. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
