Common Questions and Answers about Appendicitis and antibiotics

appendicitis

Avatar n tn I have recently been experiencing right side pain and mentioned it to my GP. He sent me for a CT which confirmed mild appendicitis. Don't have typical appendicitis symptoms other than pain and some nausea. My doc says to get it taken out. I went for a consult with a general surgeon and he said he isn't 100% that's my appendix since I don't have all the acute symptoms. He said there is no such thing as chronic appendicitis and my doc says "oh yes there is". UGH...
Avatar m tn Six months back I got pain at Right Lower Abdomen (RIF). The local GP thought Sub acute appendicitis and prescribed antibiotics. My WBC at that time was normal. The pain was intermittent, some times sharp and mild. I never took the antibiotics. The next day the local GP said no appendicitis. After 15 days still the symptoms continued occasionally and a went to a Gastroenterologist who advised to take Taxim-O an antibiotic. I took it for 5 days.
Avatar n tn Last week I suffered from appendicitis and my doctor cured me by administering antibiotics. Now have a relief the inflamation is gone. But from today morning I am suffering pain in the groin area which is similar to the pain I suffered for appendicitis I wanted to know that is the pain caused by Fungal infection or medicinal reaction which was provided for appendicitis. I have not experienced similar pain in groin area before and there is no blister or rashes.
Avatar m tn My relative (82 years old man), had a fever of 39 deg C one night and pain in lower right abdomen, and ultrasound showed his intestines at this part to be swollen and infected (the doc suspected appendicitis, but it was not), and he is currently on antibiotics and panadol right now. He told me that he had pain in his mid-abdomen when young too, not continuing, but on and off. And that he is very tired in the time period around his stroke until now. (start 2008) What could be the problem?
471949 tn?1236904026 Hi-I was in the ER Tuesday for several hours with severe lower right stomach pain, nausea, low-grade fever & diarhea. I thought it was my appendix. They did blood tests, urine tests and a CT scan. Doc said it was not my appendix, but he thought it was diverticulitis. Doc gave me some meds, including antibiotics, and sent me home with no further instructions (I'm a veteran, so I was at a VA hospital). The meds made me sicker. I'm still having the lower right side pain.
Avatar f tn I was sent to the hospital as advised by my family doctor, who thought it was appendicitis. This time I was just bloated for about 3 day’s, heavily, and a little constipated, but then it became constant pain after 3 days and I couldn’t sleep, but the pain was only about 5/10. Not too bad, but still enough to keep me awake.
Avatar m tn check that u have not got infection in your waters and the loose stools is to do with antibiotics its a reaction to it, might need to change this
Avatar m tn my appendicitis size is 7mm in my report but i am getting pain for every 3 months, the pain last only for 2 to 3 hrs and it decreased rapidly after any vomting or motion. should i use antibiotics or surgery is required.
Avatar f tn t know why I am still getting these pains, and can they be from a UTI and BV? Also I have oral thrush from the antibiotics and have had it for about 1 week. I am treating with coconut oil, corsodyl mouthwash and also natural yoghurt. However it does not seem to be clearing.. The pain is better but the White/yellow covering has not dissappeared from my tongue!! Please help!!
Avatar f tn They are doing an endoscopy and colonoscopy in morning so hopefully know something! He hasn't been on antibiotics he was a very healthy child and very active with sports etc eats right and exercises all the time my neighbor has chrones and said they have same symptoms all the time guess well find out!
Avatar f tn m not sure if your doctor ruled that out, but because it will be so long before you can take your daughter in again you could ask the doc to phone in a prescription for antibiotics and see if those help. If the appendix has burst, you would want to take her to the ER. Another idea would be to see if her gynecologist could see her sooner than your primary care doctor, as several pelvic issues could cause similar symptoms. Hope this helps and she gets better soon.
Avatar f tn Control of infection would need a course of the next generation antibiotics like ertapenam or cilastatin or meropenam antibiotics. That would control and cure the infection. The treatment of renal stones would need surgery or lithotripsy based on the size of the stone. Smaller sized stones are preferably treated with lithotripsy. Drink plenty of fluied that would help in the flushing out of the stones. Take care.
Avatar m tn showed that I had borderline appendicitis due to the appendicitis not filling with the contrast fully and the mesenteric lymph nodes of the area being “shoddy”. I was given Cipro and Flagyl for two weeks to see if that would fight the infection. After an ultrasound, they found my appendix healed completely. While the yellow explosive diarrhea has returned to coming 2-3 times/week (rather than the daily occurances) the pain in my lower right abdomen and back continued at the same intensity.
Avatar m tn If you are 18 year old male it sounds to me like you have appendicitis, Go to a surgeon tell him you are having problems passing gas and constipation and diarrhea and he will order a laporscopy but tell him to take it out no matter what. I had mine out last week and it I feel remarkably better, and I want to explain to people that the appendix has strange symptoms and will cause real damage if you don't get it removed. Remember contact a SURGEON in your area not a Gastro specialist.
Avatar f tn ultrasounds of kidneys, bladder, ovaries, and uterus. MRI with and without contrast of abdomen and pelvis. Two chest x-rays. Endoscopy. Colonoscopy. Two CBCs. EKG. STI test and PAP smear. Everything is coming back clean. So far all they can find is a tiny ovarian cyst and a vitamin D deficiency. Some days I am almost normal, with only the mild pain.
Avatar f tn I am 20 years old, and on Friday July 1st I was brought to the hospital after having pains in the right side of my stomach. They started near my belly button then moved around my stomach. While at the hospital I had a blood test, and an ultrasound done to check for appendicitis. And everything came back normal.
Avatar m tn About five months ago, I had lower right side pain that lasted a couple days, and after several tests (including CT), the doctor said all I had were swollen lymph nodes and after a series of antibiotics, I was fine (no appendicitis). Well, the pain is sort of back and it has been for a couple of days. The pain is not constant nor severe. It really is kind of a pressure-type pain for a couple of seconds and then dissipates.
Avatar f tn I had appendicitis 7 weeks ago and they removed a cyst that was attached I received a letter to go back and found that it was a low grade tumour but have got to get a cat scan to see if they got it all.
Avatar f tn Exactly 4 weeks later I developed appendicitis and had it removed via laparoscopic surgery, the surgeon said it was "messy in there". I have had no other symptoms suggestive of HIV. My concern is the appendicitis was due to lymphoid hyperplasia (swollen lymph tissue) caused from a viral infection (HIV) given it occurred so soon after exposure. It seems a bit out there to consider them related however I do see it as a possibility, but was unable to find any studies to confirm.
Avatar f tn We did, and they took blood tests and urine tests; It came out negative for appendicitis, but positive for UTI. The doctors gave me antibiotics for it, I took it religiously. Now, I still have this reoccurring pain on my stomach and abdomen area. It starts out like something is wrapped around my stomach, then later my lower right abdomen would start to hurt; The pain would just stay on my abdomen. This goes away after hours. It's accompanied by overall weakness, and nausea.
Avatar m tn 4. Appendicitis goes with nausea, vomiting and raised leukocytes in the blood. Appendicitis is painfull at any time you press on area. Bouncing sign is present: lye down on the back and press deeply sopmewhere on your lower LEFT abdomen, then release the pressure quickly. In peritonitis or appendicitis you should feel a sharp pain on the LRQ area. Peritonitis would also show marked inflammation in the blood.
Avatar f tn The constipation could be caused by adhesions/scar tissue. Antibiotics and pain medication can cause a slowing of digestion, but the antibiotics are important. I would suggest you tell your doctor about the situation, including the fact you did not finish your antibiotics and why. If you can't tolerate that one, hopefully there is another he can switch you to. Take Miralax for the constipation.
Avatar f tn Hi, About a month or two ago, I believe I had strained some muscles while working out. The pain didn't happen right away maybe one or two weeks afterwards. At first it stemmed from my neck, shoulders, and upper back. Soon after I started to feel pain in my chest, both sides right by my armpits, lower back, and abdomen area especially on my right side. The pain is usually sharp. When I do sit for a long period of time, both my right and left sides hurt but more on my right.
Avatar n tn It has general symptoms with the fever and nausea and pain..and then goes away without treatment...Does it get worse when she lays flat? Occur at only bedtime or at night? Any sweats with it? dizziness? Bowel movement changes? If it occurs during the day as well, it could be a food allergy with "leaky gut" syndrome...This can cause poor vitamin b absorption and lead to other problems...With appendicitis she would want to lay very still and with a leg drawn up...
Avatar m tn An appendix is usually on the right side of your stomach and you will usually run a high fever with appendicitis. However, if you are still concerned, you can call your doctor and ask to speak to a nurse.
Avatar n tn I am experiencing exactly what you described now today would be the 4th day... everyone saying I should be at the ER but I am terrified of hospitals. My pain constant in my back on the sides like the flank area and that's a constant dull ache it radiates to my abdominal but there's a sharp pain that goes straight through to the back Right side of abdomen two inches from my naval ...
