Common Questions and Answers about Antihistamine effects

antihistamine

Avatar f tn My head feels so groggy, my dizziness increases and my overall feeling ill gets worse. What I do, is take an antihistamine and it seems to help or at least reduce the effects. High humidity for me is the worse, extreme heat also affects me, now - I live in Canada so winter is fast approaching and when it is humid and cold I get hives instead of the other symptoms. I only have treated with the antihistamines but would like to see what everyone else does to cope.
Avatar f tn Keep track of all the medications that seem to cause the hives, and maybe even experiment with whether different generics of the same medication have the same side effects (for example one generic atarax is green and another white, which might make a difference if you are allergic to that particular coloring agent). You may even have to have an allergist help you figure out what exactly it is that you are allergic to.
Avatar f tn However, I was speaking with my sister in law who is an RN. She said that they often have their patients take an antihistamine such as Claritin with their injections to lessen the sypmptoms (both flu-like and injection site.) I'm wondering if any of you have heard of this, or do take the antihistamine. Right now I take Panadol and do my injection right before bed to try and sleep through it.
Avatar f tn Hello, I was seen in the ER today for a migraine and they gave me a mixture of compazine, benadryl, toradol and a steroid through an IV. I was wondering what possible side effects I may encounter.

Avatar f tn It is my 2nd week on the triple therapy and the side effects that I have been experiencing seen to be very mild. But there are some noticeable changes that I am still trying to get my head around which are: Over active bowel movement - it doesn't mean that I am suffering from diarrhea but probably with helps from a healthy diet regime that I am on at a hospital, I go to a loo at least three times a day Static shocks - I get what it feels like static shocks in my hands and toes.
Avatar m tn thanks for the reply, yes i googled that before messaging and the only one it shows is Seldane, because of the problem with this antihistamine and that it had been taking off the market (not a newer antihistamine), i wanted to know of any other antihistamines? are there no others for enlarged prostate sufferers? 2nd question is after stopping the intake of antihistamine that effect the prostate, woiuld these be a short term effect and the prostate goes back to how it was?

Avatar f tn 1mg/lb every 8-12 hours; I have used 25mg twice daily in pets slightly under 20# with no ill effects. In approx 10% of dogs, any antihistamine can unexpectedly cause excessive sleepiness, or paradoxical excitment, and if these symptoms occur, then the antihistamine is discontinued. Perhaps this happened to one of the prior rescue dogs when given benadryl.
Avatar f tn Definitely drink more water, because both the antihistamine and tea and coffee will cause dehydration unless more water is drunk to replace the fluids. And, actually, it isn't the caffeine that is so bad about the diet soft drink, it's the artificial chemical sweetener that is so bad. That's a lot like drinking rat poison in small enough amount you might not notice unless you're particularly sensitive to the stuff like I am.
Avatar f tn I didn't know until I had spent some years with Scott, that allergies can be a year long thing for some people. He has been sneezing and coughing like crazy, which has to be his allergies cropping up again. He takes a daily antihistamine, which I don't think helps. Good thing he doesn't have MS on top of it. I am so sorry that you are going through one thing right after another. I guess you are right about the steroids...
Avatar f tn It should be ok to take most fever and headache medications with Xanax. From what I can see, cinnarzine (not available here in the US) is an antihistamine that can cause drowsiness and blurred vision, therefore, I would use caution if taking this while on Xanax since the side effects can be additive.
Avatar n tn Many doctors do require their patients to go off H2 blockers (a specific type of antihistamine. H2 blockers inclue Zantac (ranitidine) and Pepcid. I cannot recall the chemical in Pepcid at the moment. Another questionable med is Elavil (amitriptyline). It is an antidepressant but has some antihistamine qualities. Every doctor is different on these meds. Many don't want to cause issues with going off of these meds.

Avatar f tn I also take Zyrtec (an over-the-counter antihistamine) or Benadryl. Advair has a good PR program, with side effects given short shrift.
Avatar m tn You could take some oral antihistamine medications like cetrizine or loratadine. You need to maintain a good personal hygiene . Wear lose comfortable clothes. Wash all your linen and towels etc with a disinfectant solution. Keep it well moisturized and apply vaseline liberally at the sites. Anti-itch drugs, often antihistamine, may reduce the itch during a flare up of eczema, and the reduced scratching in turn reduces damage and irritation to the skin.
