Angiography for carotid

Common Questions and Answers about Angiography for carotid

angiogram

Avatar n tn The angiography describes a plaque in one of the main arteries supplying the brain (carotid). This is a risk factor for the development of stroke since the plaque could dislodge causing embolism and ischemia. I would suggest discussing the situation and the appropriate management plan with his treating doctor when you meet him/her next or with one of the team members. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
368646 tn?1208393887 Apart from MRA or magnetic resonance angiography, Doppler/ultrasound of carotid arteries, to detect carotid artery stenosis or detection of the precerebral arteries. For the assessment of stable stroke, nuclear medicine scans SPECT and PET/ CT may be helpful. SPECT documents cerebral blood flow and PET with FDGisotope the metabolic activity of neurons. Hope this helps .Take care.
Avatar f tn my Dad is 67 years old and had memory loss ,slurred speech due to two little block in brain and blockage in internal carotid artery . The doppler study and MRI A angiogram showed 100% blockage of left internal carotid artery. The right artery had 30% 40% of block. His colateral blood is normal. he had diabeties and Bp for the past 1 1/2 years. he got blood supply through right arteries..
Avatar m tn im 48 yrs old non drinker , non smoker, have high blood pressure which im on meds for and i have a slow thyroid which im on meds for and i do get alot of headaches
Avatar f tn I have had chronic back and neck pain for 5 years, had a basilar migraine, trapped nerves in my neck and back and now my neck feels compressed. It hasn't been diagnosed and i am worried as to what it could be. I think it may be compressed neck arteries which make me lightheaded and dizzy. Any ideas? I am currently seeing a chiropractor who works wonders for the back and neck pain, but the lightheadedness remains.
Avatar f tn Other imaging techniques like MRI and carotid and vertebral digital substraction angiography can be employed for information on brain aneurysm. Discuss with your doctor and follow his advise. Best.
Avatar m tn My MDCT coronary Angiography shows the follwing results: Proximal LAD shows fibrocalcified plaques causing 40%-50% narrowing.Another calcified plaque causing 50% narrowing. Proximal RCA shows multiple small soft plaque causing 20%,30% narrowing and smal calcified plaque causing 45% ,50% narrowing respectively, distal to it RCA,PDA,PLV shows satisfactory pacification. Proximal ramus intermedius shows calcified plaque causing 50% to 60% narrowing ,distal to it shows satisfactory opacification.
Avatar n tn To add to what I wrote above, I have had a severe 24/7 migraine since I had my carotid artery dissection stroke 3 years ago. It is mostly mild now with a lot of treatments and procedures, but it gets severe frequently if I do a little too much physically.
Avatar f tn Indeed, your symptoms all seem to fit this picture. To further evaluate for a carotid artery dissection, a special test similar to an MRI called an MRA (magnetic resonance angiography) can be done to evaluate the blood vessels using special a window known as "fat sats" which optimizes visualization of a dissection. Alternatively, a CT angiogram can be useful.
Avatar n tn Hi, Possibly there could be another blockage in one of another coronaries and this can be assessed only with the help of coronary angiography. Yes, carotid endarterectomy (the surgery for blocked carotids) is done only if the blockage is > 70% but it’s very difficult to predict how much time it will take for the blockage to go to that extent.
Avatar m tn Multiple emboli (like fat emboli) would cause surface changes and would be seen all the time. Visual field exam and fluorescein angiography will be helpful. If you get a definitive DX let us know.
Avatar f tn In January 2023, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I stayed at home for more than 20 days without going out. Subsequently, a change in bowel habits occurred, leading to constipation. Bowel movements occur 2-3 times a week, and they are difficult, presenting as pellet-like stools with abdominal rumbling. There is increased gas in the abdomen, with more flatulence, but no symptoms of diarrhea.
Avatar f tn Today, I saw my PCP. I work for him. word to the wise, if you dont want to be ignored, for weeks and weeks, find a PCP that you do not work for. Now, I wake up day before yesterday with a brutally painful neck. the left side. I swear I was fevered, and I thought, it mimicked the mumps, now who in 2009 gets the mumps? *laff* anyway..... I saw one of the 8 docotors I work for yesterday, because my doctor was out. I had what he called a blocked salivary gland.
Avatar n tn I can also mail the CD of the angiography if you want to look at it. I have attached in a word file, the picture of the heart, location and % of the blocks, neck vessel / carotid doppler test report, and renal scan - kidney reports.
Avatar f tn No sufficient data about the progression of carotid disease, but for sure, cholesterol alone is not the main factor of internal wall damage.
Avatar n tn The usual method for treating a carotid artery was/is a endarterectomy procedure. This involves opening the artery and removing the plaque with special tools. However since stents were invented, they seem to be getting used everywhere now. In kidneys for example, the long term outcome doesn't exactly look promising. In carotid arteries they seem to produce more strokes and heart attacks than the usual procedure.
Avatar f tn Well, I am not a doctor but, as I have had several angiographic procedures, give you my opinion anyway. This procedure is very quick, almost painless and gives the best information about the blockages of the heart. In many cases, the blockage is repaired with a stent during the same procedure. The whole procedure will take about one hour.
Avatar f tn I read that it can affect any arteries in the body with the carotid and renal the most common. Mine was affecting my legs and I am supposed to have another angiogram so they can take care of the right illiac.
