There is at least one well-known aortic surgeon who
uses a pre-surgical 64-slice (probably 128-slice now) CT scan, rather than an
angiogram, to rule out coronary artery disease for patients whose aortic valve needs replacement. He avoids cathing those patients because, for many of them, the aortic tissue is fragile anyway, and the surgeon places a high priority on avoiding any procedure that could damage the aorta.
