Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram procedure problems

angiogram

Avatar n tn Hello Padma, Sorry to learn about your dad. I had a CT angiogram for heart this week. Compared to a regular angiogram or catheterization , the CT angiogram can be considered a noninvasive procedure. However, in your dad's case the CT angiogram may also be considered risky because of kidney problems. His kidneys may not be able to deal with the dye used for CT angiogram. I am not a doctor so here I am just giving advice based on my on experience.
Avatar f tn I am only 24 I've had every test in the book besides a angiogram. I do have other problems as well like nsvt ms stomach hernia and chonic blood in urine no explanation for anything I think there just doing it for peace of mind I also have pots it been along year and anything with my heart scares me to death. Some one sticking a camera in there isn't really sooting me.
974371 tn?1424653129 Ok, I haven't even seen a cardiologist yet. Actually, I've had chronic mouth and throat problems no doctor is able to diagnose. In the mean time, I've been complaining of a *hard* heart beat for a while. My doc, as usual, attributes it to nerves. I mentioned it yet again so he finally sent me for a halter monitor and an ECHO treadmill stress test. I knew I didn't do to well on the stress test.
Avatar n tn I had a vein that was closed after a bypass procedure and they looked for 30 minutes in a standard angiogram procedure to try and find it. At one point they believed they had, but a CT angiogram found the vein and it was in a totally different area.
Avatar f tn s not a normal reaction to an angiogram. Possibly it has nothing to do with the angiogram. It might be something more or less unrelated. It kind of sounds like a migraine type of thing, on the face it. It could even be some type of reaction to relief of stress. We think of stress as being able to cause physical symptoms, and it certainly can, but sometimes just a sudden offset of stress can cause a reaction in the body.
Avatar n tn nuclear stress test 1 week ago showed restricted blood flow. Angiogram done. One of the grafts has backed up blood which is restricting flow. Doc said may get better with exercise or stent the original blocked artery which is a 5 yr old stent on right side that is 90% blocked. Unsure what to do grafts on left side are doing great. What do u think Bill S.
Avatar f tn You better check with your doctors, I am not sure about the potential damage due to the radiation dose that you will take during the procedure. Also if they discover blockages in your coronaries, I do not know about the risk of the medication that you will need.
Avatar f tn Thanks in advance
Avatar f tn I suspect that had it not been good I would have been subjected to a angiogram. I have never had any problems from that procedure, just had to take it easy after the exam and not drive a car for 24 hours because of the anesthetic which was not much more than a relaxant - I was conscious during the procedure. I think this is a matter of choice, the first angiogram I had I went to "sleep" and woke after it was done.
Avatar m tn Believe me, the risks of the procedure are minimal, to say the least. You will be given anti-anxiety meds before the procedure and will be largely out of it during the procedure. The difficult part is keeping your leg or arm still afterwards, they use arteries in either limb to gain access. An angiogram will either rule in or out a problem. If there is no problem, you will have a baseline to compare if you have problems down the road. If you have a problem now it will be identified.
Avatar f tn I had an angiogram done on 2/18/09. I was told I would be put to sleep but was not. So I felt everything. The pressue put on my groin after was extremely painful! I had to stay in the hospital overnight because after they took the cath out my blood pressure dropped. I went home in dire pain. Today is the 17th and while I still have a bit of pain in my groin area, the REAL pain is when I have a BM or I urinate. Is this unusual?
Avatar n tn An angiogram is a very important diagnostic procedure to determine if there are any problems with blood vessels in the retina. Time is of the essence for some problems that may be treatable in the early stages - wait too long and your vision can be permanently altered if it isn't already.
Avatar n tn Thank you for the information. The test went well and the angiogram showed no heart or artery problems. We are now back to ground zero trying to figure out what is causing the chest pain and extreme fatigue.
Avatar n tn I'm having a CT angiogram Thursday. It avoids an interventional procedure that has some risk. X-ray exposture presents some risk for cancer, but my non-interventional cardiologist feels a CT angiogram is sufficient and I'm not disputing his recommendation. I had a cath angiogram and a stent 4 years ago, there was no problem as I was in a hospital setting for 3-4 days. However, some people experience a bleeding problem at the site of the cath insertion and pain that lasts several days.
Avatar m tn Sorry to hear about all your problems Ed. Sweet tooth....like me. I've drastically cut my sugar/carbs since late December along with reduced calories. I've lost 30 pounds in 3½ months. You folk in the UK have a big stress reduction in that it's all free! Medical bills and dealing with insurance is a big stress here.
Avatar f tn My 40 year old husband suffered so much stress at work, that he ended up being rushed to the local heart hospital, where, among other things, they did an angiogram. Well his heart was great, but in the 7 years since the angio, he's had constant pain, has seen no less than 25 doctors (of every specialty), all of whom told us that "an angiogram couldn't have caused his problems.
Avatar m tn Has anyone had an angiogram with the catheter inserted in arm or neck instead of the groin? I don't think I could take the groin without serious nerve spasms.
Avatar n tn An angiogram is a procedure that images a contrast agent that passes through the vessels during rest and then with exertion to observe if there is any obstruction. There shouldn't be any risk with a CT scan, and if the procedure is with a cath the risk may be a problem at the entery site (groan) as a diabetic may have some difficuty with the healing process other risks are minimal i.e. rupture, uncontrolled bleeding, etc. Doctors are quickly available if there is a problem.
Avatar f tn Sounds like a CT Angio, rather than an Angiogram. Without Stents and just medication, no one can predict chances, just as you cannot predict chances WITH stents. An EF of 20% is very low, normal is 50-70%. There are many other factors to take into consideration, such as any enlarging of the heart itself. There is also the Lungs to consider, because oxygenation of the blood will not be as efficient. The right medications can help a lot with symptoms.
Avatar f tn For a person to have an angiogram he should be medically in a condition to tolerate the procedure and the dye used. Before doing an angiogram the doctors will do an EKG, an echocardiogram and/or chest X-rays. This is a tough situation. Your husband needs to be evaluated simultaneously by the cardiologist and kidney specialist. Maybe he can be admitted for a day or two for complete evaluation. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
776302 tn?1241091853 It is important that you drink lots of fluids after an angio procedure. You have to get the contrast out of your system to prevent kidney problems. I had a 2 hour procedure the other day and a LOT of contrast. As soon as the procedure was over, I was given 2 cups of water to gulp down, even though I felt nauseous. I was then supervised to drink 3 litres of water in 2 hours which certainly flushed me out. I was then given a healthy lunch and the nausea disappeared.
Avatar f tn for some reason that same hand is tender over the top of my hand, where they put in the Angiogram camera tubing. I have had a groin Angiogram about 7 years ago. Even though I had this wrist discomfort, I would seriously ONLY ever recommend the wrist Angiogram, should you be reading my experience here.
Avatar n tn hey my dad is suppose to go in for an angiogram but he fears what might happen to him if he does. i was wondering if there was possible any alternative procedure or something else he could possibly do.
Avatar n tn My husband underwent Radiofrequency catheter ablation four years ago to reset his heart rhythm due to atrial fibrillation. This procedure was a success. The only medication he now has to take is Cartia which is a blood pressure medicine and low dose aspirin. He is 64 years old and in good health. Would taking one of the drugs to treat ED, like Viagra or Cialis be harmful to him?
