Angiogram procedure aneurysms

Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram procedure aneurysms

angiogram

Avatar f tn However, the gold standard in evaluating the blood supply of the brain is through 4 vessel angiogram which is an invasive procedure. It will all depend on what your doctor is considering, and he or she will be contented with the accuracy of the MRA. Regards and God bless.
548182 tn?1215216723 Hi there. I agree with you that it is intriguing why an angiogram is still being requested, if an MRA is already done and there are no other vascular malformations noted (like AVM's or aneurysms). An angiogram is indeed necessary (better than MRA) if the doctor strongly suspects the presence of these vascular problems especially the aneurysms. If these are not strongly considered, then I suggest you clarify the indication with your doctor.
Avatar n tn clipping, a surgical procedure in which the skull is opened (craniotomy) and the aneurysm is surgically ligated, and coiling, an endovascular procedure in which an angiogram is done through a vessel in the groin, and coils are placed in the aneurysm in order to make it close off. Each of these procedures have its indications and complications, and it is best to discuss these with the neurosurgeon.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with a 4mm cerebral aneurysm and just went for angiogram ct and I am waiting the results I am a nervous wreck. I was also diagnosed with chiari and cervical disc disease . How do they treat cerebral aneurysms ?
Avatar n tn From the shape of the blood flow, the cardiologist is able to see where restrictions or aneurysms are. However, an angiogram is a more versatile position to be in. For example, if they see a blockage which is obviously causing issues, then they can treat it there and then in many cases. They can also apply different chemicals to test it vasospasms are present. An MRA is basically a special MRI using contrast, and it just basically takes a photograph.
Avatar f tn Just need some advice. I had an MRI and MRA and this is what they said ( a focal aneurysm involving the proximal vertical artery and possibly the proximal left anterior cerebral artery at the same location, this really scared me because I had lost my Daddy and a brother with ruptured aneurysms. The Neurosurgeon ordered a angiogram and the radiologist told us that he didn't see it, now I don't see the Dr. until Sept. 16th, and I still have problems. What do you think?
847433 tn?1243009652 I had an MRI done about a month before the surgery along with a cerebral angiogram about a week after the MRI. I do have a picture of the aneurysms from the MRI which I could show you but I don't think I can attach it to this message. The MRI was very clear showing the aneurysms but the angiogram was 100% better, it showed them in a 3D kind of way. If you would like me to send you the MRI pictures, let me know where to send them and I would be happy to do it.
Avatar n tn The CT angiogram have also been used in the diagnosis of abdominal aortic aneurysms. embolism, thrombosis with increased accuracy in identifying the site, nature and extent of blockages. The chest or thoracic CAT scan can give clear pictures of the heart and lungs. Damage to, or disease in, the heart, which could be a sign of many different cardiac problems. The CAT scan may also reveal signs of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Avatar n tn I have been given dilated eye exam 6 times plus twice was given fluorecent angiogram within less than one year time. One of the doctors had told me that I have retinopathy and some aneurysms. The second last time I went to see him, he gave me my second angiogram. After that, My eyes become very sensitive to light. Any sunlight, ipad glare, night lights, sometimes even room lights. it has been more than two weeks this condition still remains and I got headache while in the sun today.
1225678 tn?1267136608 I had been having trouble with my vision and headaches for about 2 years but no one seemed to know what the problem was until a CT scan, then a MRI, and then a Cerebral angiogram. I will be having surgery on the 8th of March. I have done a lot of research on aneurysm and am no longer afraid of it, however I am terrifed of surgery and it's risks. I am a need to know person. The more I understand things the better I feel. I seen the Neurosurgeon yesterday.
359574 tn?1328360424 My 5 mm annie on the internal carotid has the ophthalmic artery coming out the side of it. The doctor who did my angiogram told me it wasn't treatable through endovascular means like coiling because it would cut off blood to the eye. The surgeon also told me a craniotomy and clipping is riskier than leaving it alone and monitoring it. At my one year follow-up, the CT Angiogram showed no changes.
Avatar f tn They found a 4mm carotid aneurysm in my scan last week. I am to get a CT Angiogram Wed and then see the neurosurgeon in August. I am on coumadin due to a blood clot in my sagittal sinus (reason why they found the aneurysm) from 2009. Was just wondering if someone has been through this process before and what I need to expect.
Avatar n tn I had a vein that was closed after a bypass procedure and they looked for 30 minutes in a standard angiogram procedure to try and find it. At one point they believed they had, but a CT angiogram found the vein and it was in a totally different area.
Avatar n tn s and CT scans, all which came back normal, but they have been very resistant to giving him and angiogram which is, to my understanding, the only test that can see all of the veins in the brain. We are very worried that he has an aneurysm somewhere that has been undetected by the other scans. Are there any other possible causes for his combination of symptoms?
Avatar n tn Other members of the family may also have to be worked up through MRI or MRA (magnetic resonance angiogram) just to detect if there are similar conditions (aneurysms or dissections). Regards.
Avatar n tn nuclear stress test 1 week ago showed restricted blood flow. Angiogram done. One of the grafts has backed up blood which is restricting flow. Doc said may get better with exercise or stent the original blocked artery which is a 5 yr old stent on right side that is 90% blocked. Unsure what to do grafts on left side are doing great. What do u think Bill S.
Avatar f tn You better check with your doctors, I am not sure about the potential damage due to the radiation dose that you will take during the procedure. Also if they discover blockages in your coronaries, I do not know about the risk of the medication that you will need.
Avatar f tn I have just been scheduled for an angiogram and I'm scared to no end I have a 3 year old son I love to death same as my soon to be wife. I'm so scared something will go wrong during the surgery how coming are complications? Also my ej is 73 is this bad?
Avatar n tn I also had an MRI/MRA and found a small aneurysm. When I went and saw a neurosurgeon they had me do an angiogram as well. Its considered the gold standard in finding aneurysms. I would suggest finding out your family history and see if anyone else has had them. If there is a familial connection the medical community can take different more aggressive tactics. I was rather surprised to find out a family member had had an annie.
Avatar f tn The Cleveland Clinic surgeons are now able to treat many thoracic and thoracoabdominal (occurring in the lower part of the thoracic aorta and the upper part of the abdominal aorta) aneurysms with a minimally invasive procedure called an endovascular stent graft. It is implanted with a cath that administers a stent graft in the diseased segment. Eligibility would be those individuals who have not had thoracic aneurysm rupture.
Avatar n tn Hello Padma, Sorry to learn about your dad. I had a CT angiogram for heart this week. Compared to a regular angiogram or catheterization , the CT angiogram can be considered a noninvasive procedure. However, in your dad's case the CT angiogram may also be considered risky because of kidney problems. His kidneys may not be able to deal with the dye used for CT angiogram. I am not a doctor so here I am just giving advice based on my on experience.
Avatar m tn Has anyone had an angiogram with the catheter inserted in arm or neck instead of the groin? I don't think I could take the groin without serious nerve spasms.
Avatar m tn Are you referring to an aneurysm? Its a bulge that develops in the wall of an artery. Aneurysms are common and most develop in older people, particulary in men and in people who have atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries, weakens) and high blood pressure. Blood does not flow normally through aneurysms so there is a risk of clots.
Avatar n tn An angiogram is a procedure that images a contrast agent that passes through the vessels during rest and then with exertion to observe if there is any obstruction. There shouldn't be any risk with a CT scan, and if the procedure is with a cath the risk may be a problem at the entery site (groan) as a diabetic may have some difficuty with the healing process other risks are minimal i.e. rupture, uncontrolled bleeding, etc. Doctors are quickly available if there is a problem.
Avatar n tn Hello Maxi111, Aneurysm is a localized, blood-filled dilation (balloon-like bulge) of a blood vessel caused by disease or weakening of the vessel wall. Aneurysms most commonly occur in arteries at the base of the brain (the circle of Willis) and in the aorta (the main artery coming out of the heart), a so-called aortic aneurysm. The bulge in a blood vessel can burst and lead to death at any time.
