Angiogram death rate

Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram death rate

angiogram

Avatar f tn Hello! If it were me or my mother, I'd say no and would just go for a heart catheterization/ angiogram instead. The stress test is to see if you have an cardiac changes when your heart is "challenged" by a workout. An angiogram or heart cath is the next step in the process. The stress tests can be either done by a treadmill or chemical induction but they carry the risk of making a heart attack happen or worsen it if it already in progress....
Avatar n tn Would a clear angiogram 2.5 years ago and a clear nuclear stress test last year indicate good heart health. I sometimes get bad shoulder pain an I worry it is related to my heart.
Avatar f tn I apologize for misunderstanding your age, joshua. Yes, I'm sure it has been a long year, with everything that you have gone through. As for your question about the risk of death from an angiogram, there is an extremely low mortality rate. It's not zero, but it's very, very low. I'm not sure if you have anything wrong that would increase the risk for you in particular. The doctors don't do an angiogram unless they feel the risk is justified.
Avatar f tn I had an angiogram 5 days ago, the first two days I couldn't move my leg too much, the 3rd day I was much better, 4th and 5th day (today) I have quite a bit of pain in the groin area, all around the site of the angiogram, quite a bit of bruising which I was expecting, but I don't know if this is normal or if I should go see a Dr.? The pain is not there all the time only with movement, ie. walking or standing even, if I just lay down it is not painful.
Avatar n tn I agree that since he got to 10 Mets it is probable that his heart, in that test, showed a healthy response. However there are many people over age 60, who can get to 10 Mets and fail to reveal underlying heart problems. Part of the problem in the way the test is conducted is that they use the formula of 85% times maximum heart rate as the goal to end the test.
Avatar m tn The tests indicated a blockage. I am now waiting for an angiogram. They put me on drugs after the test. I am on 1.25mg Monocor, 5mg Norvasc, 10mg Crestor as well as ASA 81mg - one per day. Now I wait for Angiogram. I am quite freaked out. So I am scheduled for an angiogram on Feb 5th. They tell me there are risks in this test. The risk is 1 in 1000 people die, stroke or have a heart attack during this proceedure. My question is this, Should I get a 64-slice Coronary CT Angiography?
Avatar n tn Another one of the risks of an angiogram is death.
Avatar f tn Note that I did not suffer another MI, and presented with low blood pressure and a slow heart rate. After the bypass EF was at 40% after 4 days. I am only 45, and am so worried that I wil not be able to return to sport, albeit not at the same level. The cardiologist doesn't seem to hold out much hope for an improvdd EF, but he is extremely uncommunicative. Asian doctors do not feel the need to communicate indepth with patients, especially if they are female.
Avatar f tn I started having heart palpitations/rapid rate about 5 months ago. My regular Dr had me wear a Holter monitor on May 10-11 and then referred me to a heart specialist. I have very low cholesterol/triglicerides, am a dailly walker and work out with weights 2-3 times a week. I am 5'4" and weigh 120. I had an echo cardiogram and it was good, but I took an echo stress test and they took me off the treadmill after 3 minutes because my heart rate was at 200.
Avatar m tn I think another angiogram is your best option personally. It will show how clear your vessels are but ask them to do a FFR on your coronary arteries. This is a tiny sensor which gives the cardiologist the blood flow rate. Without this test, they are simply going by visual signs which is an inaccurate method. I would like to know what your BP was to lower your EF to 15%?
Avatar f tn The angiogram shows that your major coronary arteries are clear. The two tests may lead to the same conclusion, or the nuclear scan could have given inaccuracies when trying to penetrate body tissue to reach the heart. Let me explain how both tests could be correct. An Angiogram can only look at fairly large vessels, the small vessels do not show up.
Avatar n tn It looks like your heart has been suffering from hypertension. This would explain the hypertrophy and the diastolic dysfunction. Once your blood pressure is under control, the hypertrophy and LV diastolic dysfunction could improve to normal values again. Your aortic valve leaflets are degenerated although nothing is said about leakage. Therefore I assume that the valve still opens and closes well. Your aortic valve's condition is most likely not caused by the high blood pressure.
Avatar f tn I am essentially a healthy 61 year old woman (no diabetes) and following the death of my husband four years ago have not been seen by a physician for any reason for over 6 years; Mainly because of being a caregiver and because I had no insurance. Recently because of my symptoms, I became very concerned and went to a local doctor. Symptoms this past year has been getting worse and could not ignore it. They are as following: • Extremely tired • Weight gain • Memory problems.
Avatar f tn I am 37 yr old female. I do have anxiety and am on medicine for that, but my cardiologist put me on metoprolol, a very low dose, trying to help with my heart rate palpitations. I took my 1/2 pill of metoprolol 2 days ago and felt weird, which could have been just nervous bc I was scared of what it would do to my heart rate. My heart rate really hasn't been too high here lately so that's why I was concerned.
19887518 tn?1486048647 The actual result (after my Angiogram ) was that the above defect was incorrect. No defect in that area was found. But…. The angiogram did un-cover a serious defect (45% blockage in Left Main artery with 88% pressure) that the Nuc. Stress Test did not detect. So…Nuc. Stress Test score “zero for two.” Not good.
1139941 tn?1260913035 Heart rate is controlled by the autonomic nervous system which we cannot directly control. When we are depressed, heart rate variability is not controlled properly it is actually decreased. This means when we exercise etc, the heart will not adapt to the situation as it should and poses a risk of irregular hearbeats and in extreme cases this can cause sudden death. When the depression ends, the heart begins to behave correctly.
Avatar f tn I am hoping I can avoid angiogram if possible-sometimes I think it would be better to just have the angiogram & possible stent & get on with a better quality of life-thanks again for your help
17389007 tn?1456248518 Do you mean to say that you do not want to have the angiogram or that an angiogram can not be done because of the risk?
Avatar m tn I was doing some very gentle jogging and my heart rate hit 235 very suddenly for a short time and felt terrible. It then stayed at 130 for 2 hours after I finished. Took myself to A&E where I was admitted and monitored. I was given an echo cardiogram and told all is perfect, had a CT angiogram....totally clear. I was told that I have ectopic heart beat but it is benign eg my ecg shows a "good shaped spike". I am now on beta blockers to try to keep the rate from spiking.
Avatar f tn If you get throat discomfort on exertion this is a classic form of angina due to ischemia. The easy test is to stand still when the discomfort begins. It will usually disappear very quickly, within 2 minutes. Mine goes after just 20 seconds. The medication you are on, statins and Aspirin are not going to make the problem go away, they are to help prevent the blockage getting worse or clots forming in the artery.
Avatar f tn ve had EKG which was normal, blood work normal, abnormal heart monitor which led to a stress test, stress test was abnormal which led to angiogram, and the angiogram came back good showing no blockage. So with all that said, I'm not sure why now I'm struggling with skipped heart beats, which I've had in the past.. Actually I had the same thing happen when I got home from hospital after angiogram.. And the hospital gave me metoprolol there as well..
678312 tn?1310010574 My 23 year old son suffered sudden cardiac death back in March while jogging. He was revived and his heart raced and they defibulated him. The doctors tried to find what caused his heart to do this but couldn't. Instead they gave him a pacemaker/defibulator. Twelve years ago, my brother died at 22 years of age at work. Before he collapsed, he said his heart was racing so fast he couldn't catch his breath. They couldnt tell what killed him but did say his heart went in to arrymthia.
Avatar m tn What can be ruled out with a ct angiogram? Can we see what the EF is ? Also can they find any abnormalities in the shap of the heart? And can they see any major valve regurgitatiOn? I'm concerned ? Because some people rather have a conventional angiogram and don't see a ct angiogram useful and I would like to know why??
685584 tn?1227113800 If you could give me your opinion I would greatly appreciate it. They want to do a cardiac cath/angiogram. This is going to take place this Mon. My father died of arthersclerosis at the age of 55. Thank you again. I look forward to hearing back from you and again thank you!
Avatar n tn My father is going in for an angiogram. The cardio MD said that he is very conservative and that unless the tests indicate there is a blockage of 80% or more, he wouldn't recommend the stent insertion. This percentage sounds high before action is taken. Your opinion? In lieu of stents, would medication such as the stations and beta blockers be appropriate or other treatments? Thank you. Kathy.

Avatar f tn I cannot do my day to day activities as my BP and heart rate go extremelly high, if I rest and specially if I lay down on my right side I can lower my BP to 117/76 and heart rate at 76, but as soon as I move it goes to 145/98 and heart rate in the 90's or more. Should I go through this procedure? If I do it will be done between Xmas and New Year's. I have 3 kids 11, and 10 year old twins. We also have a cruise planned for end of January. Any advice? I want my life back!
Avatar f tn Towards the end of the test, I had heart attack symptoms ( which resolved with 3 squirts of nitro) and was sent to the hosp for an angiogram. Results of the angiogram were good , except for a 25% occlusion in a distal aeortic vessel on the back of my heart down by the apex. The Dr. said that my heart had "spasmed" during the stress test. I had never had a problem with the treadmill test. With the med stress echo, my heart was beating faster than I think it ever has....
