Avatar n tn I need to help my husband at home with detox. He hasn't had drink in 24 hours and is pucking bad. what kinds of vitamins or things does he need to get through this?
Avatar f tn Hey all, well i did it, little over 30 days clean and home from rehab. It feels great to be home and back in the swing of things. I am feeling and doing great and last night was the first night i actually slept, i am finally starting to feel good and its a great feeling. I have allot of work to do making amends with the hubby but over all its going great. I already visited my therapist at home and i will be seeing her 2 times a week.
Avatar f tn That is 1) We admitted we were powerless over alcohol, and that our lives have become unmanageable. So many people get through the detox, at home (which can be dangerous and is often done though a medically supervised detox). It's like it's all or nothing. Those that don't have the opportunity to go to a residential / outpatient Rehab Facility do not instead go to an Addictions Therapist and use them for the therapy that is many times necessary to quit an addictive substance.
Avatar f tn No beds again at gateway, home for the weekend....thanks everyone for the thoughts on this crazy ride. Work terminated me today. still feel anxious, but I guess the worst is over.
Avatar n tn 5 yrs ago dua to a break in my job i started taking alcohol in evening at home.(normally 2 large pegs). My wife is well educated female and we had a love marriage.Every thing was going fine til my job ended unexpectedly.I thought its not a big deal as i am well educated with superb personality and communication skill. At that point i thought to take rest of 15 days at home then i would look out for new job but god had something else in stored for me.
Avatar m tn I do not believe that taking him to a rehab facility would mean he would get in trouble at all. I am currently in an outpatient rehab, and I have told them some terrible things that I did to get my DOC (drug of choice), but they did not tell on me to anyone. I don't think any rehabs do that. It is my understanding that outpatient rehabs are more affordable than inpatient rehabs. I have just recently been told about and am researching rehab scholarships.
Avatar f tn I just returned from a womans' detox and it was the best thing I ever did. I was able to withdraw from both alcohol and opiates in a safe place. I couldn't do it at home, not while I still had to go to work, and also worry my family. I was in a nice room with 5 others, then went to me own room, and I could stay as long as I wanted before I had an aftercare program set up. I arranged for all of that while in rehab, so I was prepared when I got out.
Avatar f tn i have finally decided to quit im so scared though because on top of the withdrawls i know there will so much other emotional pain to deal with so should i go to a treatment center or just do it at home i dont know which woudl be easier
Avatar f tn I had to travel far to another Dr and he wanted me to do the Subs..Well I could of done this at home. I tried them for 4 days and took over them and did them SO wrong that it just made me even sicker. The Staff should of told me NO that this was the Dr orders or go and talk to the Dr..PLUS this Dr did not even consider my Benzo use. That one was just cut out and I should of been tapered with something lesser..(Benzo) The adderral was NOT even considered and it was Bad to w/d from.
317822 tn?1223241475 30pm. You were not forced to go to the groups, however I wanted to get as much out of it as i could so I went to them. Our DOC is only 10% of our addiction....the other 90% is how we deal with life and stressful situations. I saw my doctor every day I was there, and my social worker every day for the first 3 days. We were allowed to smoke at designated times, and the food was good.
Avatar m tn When you first go to a treatment program, they have you stay in a nursing station, where they help you get through withdrawal, by giving you something to settle down and sleep. A doctor can similarly help you to do this. If you have a person at home with you, that can go to a doctor with you, and be there to give you some medication to help you through withdrawal, you will have gone the same route as rehab detox.
Avatar n tn What are the best medications to be on for an at home alcohol detox? Can I detox safely by slowly lowering my alcohol intake over the next week instead? I have at home now the following: blood pressure cuff, klonopin and atenolol, also lasix and potassium pills. My biggest concern is my blood pressure spiking. There in no way I am able to detox at an alcohol facility. So if I can't use the meds I have available to me, maybe I should do the taper using less alcohol each day?
Avatar f tn Just got out of rehab I have 28 days clean of of Xanax stayed in the rehab for 21 days , the dr sent me home on inderal , nuroten , and visteral
Avatar m tn hi, i have been reading here alot & this is my first time posting. im 37 female & have been using for about 7 years. 3 back surg & i lost count on how many times i have tried to quite. i have been to rehab twice, both time where to due the 4 day rapid detox using revia with other meds to try & keep me confortable. last year i made it 14 days & relpased after getting a kidney stone.
Avatar m tn Only reason for Lithium in my book is BiPolar. Since I'm BiPolar and have been considering Lithium, Ill take the hand shaking thing into consideration but I'm also a recovering alcoholic so I would never combine the two together. I used alcohol to medicate the BiPolar and somewhere crossed the line and became a little pickled and couldn't stop!
Avatar f tn Speaking from my experience, rehab always sucked bad in the beginning. But I almost always met people and connected with them quickly which made things go a lot smoother. In the places where I stayed, it was also 2 to a room. No TV's other than one in the main hall. Food's never that great - it's essentially hospital food so it is nutritious - just not delicious. There's a smoking area outside of the cottage.

Avatar n tn Maybe a longer term program where he could look at starting tx after the first part of the rehab is over?
905972 tn?1242388801 Other options would be an inpatient 30 day stint at a rehab - most counties fund this type of treatment........just quiting cold turkey is unpleasant - but doable. There is also replacment therapy - suboxone or methadone....known as "harm reduction therapy" - - wouldnt say to go that route. You are at a good place to begin - - keep posting and reading the old posts and you will learn a great deal. Good luck to her ...
380309 tn?1246467740 It's the vendor's who push these things on the state.....trust me on this one. They can't understand the nature of alcoholism, if they think the SCRAM or anything other than a desire not to drink that outweighs the desire to drink keeps us sober.
594255 tn?1219163564 Hi, Was sober almost three years until last Feb. 3, 2008. All kinds of bad things went wrong on Feb. 2, 2008. I bought a half-gallon of rum, and started again. I did stop drinking again after a few weeks for about a month. I went back to meetings. Been unemployed three and a half years, and was turned down for a very good job. Guess what? I've been drinking since! I have no way to pay for rehab, so I have to go it alone.
1511199 tn?1292701545 I loved my rehab! I always thought that going to rehab would be THE END, something to be avoided at ALL COSTS. I was so wrong, it turned out to be exactly what I needed and it was the beginning of life, not the end. I see your from MD. There are lots of great rehabs close to you. I know several people who went to Father Martin's Ashley, which is in Havre de Grace (http://www.fathermartinsashley.com/).
184420 tn?1326739808 which WILL NOT happen again... im never leaving my house again haha im fine when i stay home alone ... i quit drinking when i was dx'd about 4-5 years ago but lately i have been drinking more and more and this weekend was just bad... really bad... i should prob consider rehab/aa or something i have been a drug addict and alcoholic all my life but have never done any treatment other than outpatient court ordered couciling and a few AA meetings...
