Ur dad is playing w/his life mixing alcohol and opiate painkillers.He could very easily go in2 cardiac arrest.Vitamins will not help him.......he needs a medically monitored inpatient detox and treatment for his drinking and painkiller abuse.

I am so glad that you have finally come to a realization that alcohol abuse is truly poisonous to your body. It leaches vitamins and nutrients out of you and damages your central nervous system. That is why I always suggest that alcohol detox take place in a hospital under medical supervision. You need to be on medication such as benzodiazapines to prevent seizures and have IV vitamin supplementation, especially thiamine, among others. Please do not take this advise lightly.

if the xanax is in addition to the alcohol.....then he's really playing with fire here. being a medical student, you should know already how diazepam is used for withdrawal from xanax. this needs to be dr surpervised and the process alone of switching from xanax to valium is a long process...but ultimately at these doses and with alcohol in the mix, perhaps thats the best route? a doctor will know best...but the alcohol needs to be dealt with FIRST...then the xanax.

My guess is that you have a candida infection, and that your alcohol is feeding the candida, being one of it's favourite sources of energy for growth.

With the exception of no sleep and the waves of temptation, I consider this a huge success. I know it's far from over bc I haven't started back to work yet, but I'm happy about making it this far. My poor grandfather doesn't even understand what he's praying for as far as he doesn't understand substance abuse other than alcohol. But I believe his prayers don't stop at the ceiling. Maybe I'm being silly but I feel it's what's made the difference this time.
