2176476 tn?1338605299 There are sometimes drug and alcohol programs attached mental health clinics, at least in Canada. They are looked at as the same type of issue and that both must be treated at the same time. So you may be able to find a drug and alcohol counsellor through the same place that diagnosed you as bipolar 1. Your health care team need to know if you are taking alcohol with any prescribed meds. Alcohol is a depressant and will make getting stable really hard.

537639 tn?1232053569 People with hepatitis C should avoid any substances toxic to the liver (hepatotoxic), including alcohol. Even moderate amounts of alcohol speed up the progression of hepatitis C, and alcohol reduces the effectiveness of treatment. Patients also suffer Fe excretive disorder and more Fe accumulation in body is harmful for health, so patients with hepatitis C must take the foods of high Fe content less or not.
Avatar n tn First and foremost you and your sister are victims of his addiction. Unless your brother wants help, there is nothing you can do. He is an adult and if you get him to rehab he can leave at anytime.. You need to talk to his dr because with epilepsy I would think w/d could be dangerous. His dr can help him with monitoring his tapering and with the w/d. but all depends on him, does he want help? is he willing to fight the fight? keep us posted. prayers for you and your family.
Avatar f tn He had his surgery done @ Johns Hopkins and told his surgeon he had substance abuse issues alcohol and oxys so they detoxed him while he was recovering from brain surgery. My question is, he now wants to enroll in an inpatient rehab to address his issues is this possible so soon after surgery? The only problems he is experiencing are headaches and mild fatigue.
1563920 tn?1299288683 If you look at my past posts, I have been dealing with neurological issues for some time now. I have been very depressed about everything, from having to quit nursing to my inability to work and drive. During this time, I have been turning to alcohol to kind of deal with my problems, not such a good idea, I know!!! It hadn't seemed to be a problem until last night. A group of my friends, including my boyfriend, went out for my birthday.
Avatar n tn i am fortunate to be where i am as this county has one of the most accessible mental health/substance abuse programs available. but lately the resources available are coming under attack via budget cuts and empty promises from politicians. sorry---didn't mean to get sidetracked. if you will go to http://www.findtreatment.samhsa.gov/ there you will find a locator for tx centers based on the location you enter.
1621722 tn?1333050499 Welcome to the forum. None of us are qualified to give you any sort of diagnosis, especially online. If you're using alcohol as a way to deal with anxiety and depression, you could be heading down a slippery slope. It already sounds as though you need to figure out exactly how bad your "problem" with alcohol is...and the sooner the better, before it gets any worse.
1310633 tn?1430224091 He said the incident came only a week or two after campus officials met with UT fraternity and sorority student leaders about alcohol. The university, which generally forbids alcohol on campus, has anti-alcohol-abuse efforts, including unannounced checks of common areas in residence halls.
Avatar n tn Our daughter was forced to have unsupervised custody last week where she informed us that he was vomiting all evening. I have researched symptoms of alcohol and Tylenol abuse and found possible signs of liver damage. For the concern of my daughter, we are extremely scared on what he is capable of when she see's him. We are hoping anyone who has experience on this could offer us advise.
Avatar f tn Ibizan is right. when my dad drink he would drink his self in to a state were he would not eat he would go days and days without eating only drinking liquor. My mom after a few weeks would have to take him to a detox unit at a hospital when this happened and it happened quit a few times so get him to a detox take the pill bottle with you so they will no what he has been taking. 362971 tn?1201987034 207 Clearly, for heavy alcohol users, efforts should be undertaken to treat the alcohol abuse and dependence before starting treatment, but treatment is not contraindicated for persons who have an occasional drink of alcohol or who have a history of alcoholism. Although no consensus opinion exists, it seems reasonable to recommend either the complete suspension of alcohol intake while on treatment or to restrict the use of alcohol to an occasional drink during the course of the treatment.
Avatar f tn I have been suffering from bipolar II disorder for the last eight years, it started when I was 16, but I wasn't diagnosed until I was 20. I'm 24 now. I am a photography student, and I do well in my field, people tell me that I'm good all the time, I'm one of the few people in my program who is employed in the photography field... interestingly enough I am doing a project on youth and mental illness for the local children's hospital.

570906 tn?1219279568 I tested positive for hep c 2 weeks ago. I'm not insured. I should know more about the condition of my liver within 2 weeks. I'm hoping to get a fibro sure test on a sliding scale at the county heath clinic that found the disease. From what I'm seeing on this site, I am planning to need treatment. I'm 55, have had the disease for atleast 35 years, and drank regularly until 2 years ago.

Avatar f tn Becoming free from alcohol is a very doable thing. But remaining free from alcohol takes work. I had to take part in my own recovery and work on myself so I would change. If I don't change nothing changes. Nobody could do that for me. But there are millions of us in recovery all over the world. So freedom for you is out there waiting. Keep your willingness and continue to make the steps in the right direction like you've described in your post. You don't have to be sick anymore.
Avatar f tn My question is this I have a history of alcohol abuse, it started about 12 years ago when I had my child, I met a guy (who I spent 10 years with), could never get a babysitter so he started bringing beer into the house (only ever drank when I went out prior to this) after a year we were drinking a full bottle of scotch together every night,I had a very highly paid job god only knows how I kept it without being dicovered, after 10 years I left him tried to make a new start abroad it went wrong I
Avatar n tn as a rule narcs can be stopped much less dangerously than heavy alcohol abuse//physically// cos as a rule there is no risks unless a narc user is old and has heart failure//mentally both r a true bumber//and aftercare for alcohol abuse is almost imperative cos it is everywhere//and drug abuse is not socially acceptable like alcohol is..peeps do not pass out oxys at the bowling alley like they do beers u didnt state what ur abuse issue was/or if there was one at all???..
5901196 tn?1395543909 when you leave you will be set up with many aftercare programs for substance abuse as well as had at least a week to work on what caused you to use in the first place. that is what i would do.
Avatar m tn (hit send early - but just about done). To clarify I continued to drink after being off O's and tackled alcohol +3 weeks ago. Prometa treatment was used for alcohol only & after I detoxed with phenobarbitol & was already sober 5-6 days. PROMETA was not used for opiates.only suboxone. My apologies for babbling but once I started venting couldn't stop. It was cathartic & I Thank you for your input & encouragement. Much needed therapy next on menu.
559410 tn?1233500529 They may be useful for her, but the best treatment for abuse involves confronting it, not suppressing it.
