Common Questions and Answers about Alcohol abuse heart disease

alcohol

Avatar f tn The stents themselves aren't affected by alcohol that I know of, I've not received warnings during my history of receiving stents. However, some heart medications warn about the use of alcohol. I'd certainly pose your question to your doctor.
Avatar n tn as a rule narcs can be stopped much less dangerously than heavy alcohol abuse//physically// cos as a rule there is no risks unless a narc user is old and has heart failure//mentally both r a true bumber//and aftercare for alcohol abuse is almost imperative cos it is everywhere//and drug abuse is not socially acceptable like alcohol is..peeps do not pass out oxys at the bowling alley like they do beers u didnt state what ur abuse issue was/or if there was one at all???..
Avatar f tn Becoming free from alcohol is a very doable thing. But remaining free from alcohol takes work. I had to take part in my own recovery and work on myself so I would change. If I don't change nothing changes. Nobody could do that for me. But there are millions of us in recovery all over the world. So freedom for you is out there waiting. Keep your willingness and continue to make the steps in the right direction like you've described in your post. You don't have to be sick anymore.
Avatar m tn Drinking too much alcohol also may be part of what causes high blood pressure and strokes. Alcohol can lead to heart muscle disease or heart failure. Alcohol can also cause: increased blood sugar levels, which makes diabetes worse interactions with medicines worsening of most other medical problems (heart disease, kidney disease, circulation problems) injuries from falls and other accidents. Enough said.
Avatar n tn Other common health conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, pancreatitis, hemolytic anemia and thyroid disease, can also cause liver transaminase elevations. Most liver diseases are characterized by greater SGPT elevations than SGOT elevations except cirrohsis and alcohol abuse. SGPT also rises in bile duct obstruction due to stone. Discuss the need to rule out these other conditions with your doctor. If you have jaundice, the cause can primarily be liver, though other causes can co-exist.
Avatar n tn Conditions including high blood pressure, valve disease, thyroid disease, kidney disease, diabetes, or heart defects present at birth can all cause heart failure. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar m tn com/health/most-important-things-you-can-do-help-alcoholic#approach Liver issues are just one way that alcohol abuse shows. When you drink alcohol, you are consuming water, ethanol (drinking alcohol), and things like sugars and fats, depending on what’s mixed into your drink. Your body can store sugar, fat, and water, but it has no way to deal with alcohol other than to filter it out.
Avatar m tn t it be terrrible if she justifies her substance abuse issues in her mind because she thinks starting treatment for the cirrhosis will offset any damage caused by the alcohol or drugs. That would be like someone with emphysemia or heart disease thinking their breathing treatments or heart medication will stop the deterioration of their lungs or heart while they continue to smoke.
Avatar m tn There are various causes of tachycardia. These include heart disease, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, electrolyte imbalance, medications, caffeine, alcohol, smoking, or other recreational drug abuse, and psychological stress or anxiety. It is important to consider and treat the cause of the tachycardia, rather than just treating the condition. Simply slowing the heart rate could cause more harm if the rapid heartbeat is a symptom of a more serious or long-term problem.
Avatar m tn Wow that is a heavy duty question.......the risk of sudden death and arrythmias due from alcohol abuse are fairly remote however you have to remember that with overdoing it with the alcohol which is a depressive causes your whole system to slow down and depress everything in your body....
Avatar f tn The preclinical and acute stages are usually reversible when alcohol abuse is discontinued, except in cases of sudden congestive heart failure or acute heart muscle degeneration. Your medication treats high blood pressure and stablizes the heart rate. That is the same treatment I was given. A reduction in blood pressure will help to reduce the heart's workload...
Avatar n tn Our daughter was forced to have unsupervised custody last week where she informed us that he was vomiting all evening. I have researched symptoms of alcohol and Tylenol abuse and found possible signs of liver damage. For the concern of my daughter, we are extremely scared on what he is capable of when she see's him. We are hoping anyone who has experience on this could offer us advise.
1365060 tn?1279878430 Yes, bradycardia can be dangerous especially if it due to a failing heart, arrhythmia, degenerative myopathy, heart attack, or due to a valve disease. Non cardiac causes can be drug or alcohol abuse, hypothyroidism, electrolyte imbalance, prolonged bed rest, and autoimmune disease. If indeed you have a resting heart rate of 50 or below, please get this checked ASAP. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted.

It is best that further evaluation be done and the cause of the insomnia should be identified and treated. A referral to a sleep specialist may also be indicated. Take care and best regards.
Avatar f tn Most liver diseases are characterized by greater ALT elevations than AST elevations except cirrohsis and alcohol abuse. So alcohol abuse is ruled out in your case. Raised alkaline phosphatase is often found in a growing child and at puberty. There are several bone disorders too that can raise this enzyme like rickets, osteomalacia, Paget’s disease of the bone, tumors, metastasis and recent fracture. In your case only alkaline phosphate is raised really high.
