Common Questions and Answers about Albuterol and ipratropium inhaler

atrovent

Avatar n tn You might try asking your doctor to prescribe Combivent/Duoneb. This is an already prepared mixture of Albuterol and Ipratropium. It is available as an inhaler, as well as a nebulizer solution. Although you can ask your doctor to be sure, Pulmicort should probably be taken separately.
Avatar f tn Also, apprantly my dr agreed because he prescribed me an inhaler. Im just a little concerned because i used it once so far, and i know that sometimes the side effects can be really severe (ive been having REALLY bad drowsiness, but thats just annoying not much of a big deal) but it also seemed that the inhaler actually made my chest pains worse. It just made it seem like i had this huge gulp of air caught in my chest.. like i needed to burp but couldnt make it come out.
Avatar n tn I have moderate COPD and am doing well on Duoneb (an nebulizing combination that contains albuterol) and an antihistamine. As for anything else I depend on natural supplements - vitamin B5, mullein extract, and MSM. I breathe more easily now than I have in two years. (Also Advair resulted in adrenal fatigue which I am now recovering from.
Avatar f tn I purchased the Omron Portable Ultrasonic Nebulizer and am using the vials of Albuterol and Ipratropium. I can only use 1/2 vial because more than that speeds my heart up too much. Can I save the last 1/2 of the vial for later use? Does anybody know of a more affordable way to get the medicine I need? I am paying out of pocket and this economy gets harder every day it seems like.
Avatar f tn Long acting forms are not recommend for use by asthmatics unless they are also being used with a corticosteroid as in Advair (Symbicort and Dulera as well). Short acting forms are a form of albuterol. They last about four hours and are considered the rescue inhaler. Advair and Spiriva is a common combination of meds for COPD patients. However, you should also have a rescue inhlaer containing some form of albuterol. Combivent is another option used by many COPD patients.
746512 tn?1388807580 Your doctor should have prescribed ipratropium bromide. Use the albuterol to open the airway, and three minutes later use the ipratopium bromide (Atrovent). Use the albuterol only when your symptoms come up, because the airways can become less responsive when this medication is over-used, and you want it when you need it. And follow the instructions, of have someone in an asthma clinic review them with you.
Avatar n tn I've recently had an asthma attack due to spring pollen and other related environmental condition that increase during this season. I take a Combivent inhaler as a rescue treatment for my asthma. The problem at this point is that is a provides short relief and has choked me to the point of passing out. Could you please tell me what is causing this reaction. What would be a better method and inhaler. This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
Avatar n tn But you can use the Albuterol and the Ipratropium to keep the lungs clear instead of the prednisone for at least two weeks. Make sure you have enough solution on hand. You can always go back to the prednisone. I think you need at least a week off the prednisone. That is a half-____ guess.I wouldad that allphysicians treat with prednisone plus antibiotics. My opinion is this is going in two different directions.I am not going to go into "tapeting off".
Avatar n tn In addition, if the cough, even in part, is due to asthma, the Combivent® Inhalation Aerosol (ipratropium bromide and albuterol sulfate) is inadequate therapy for asthma. There are times when cough is the primary symptom or the only symptom of asthma so a trial of an inhaled steroid would be warranted. If vigorous therapy for asthma does not reduce your cough, especially when combined with nasal washes and the use of a nasal steroid inhaler, then you should see an ENT.
5915610 tn?1376611217 inhaler of Cipla company. Now I have moved to Italy and I have brought one extra Duolin inhaler with me, but after this is finished, I will need to buy something else of the same composition: "Levosulbutamol + ipratropium bromide" I needed to know, will I need to see a doctor here and get a prescription to buy my inhaler or I can just go to a medicine shop and can buy it ? Please help !
Avatar n tn The combination medications which include inhaled steroids and a long acting broncho dilater like Advair, Symbicort and Dulera are standard treatments for all forms of COPD. They are also used to treat asthma which cannot be controlled on inhaled steroids alone. Have a blessed New Year.
Avatar n tn We are currently using an albuterol inhaler 15 min before his matches, also a Flovent inhaler twice a day, and have recently started taking singulair. Thus far these have not worked. Please help with any suggestions you may have...we are desperate to help our son succeed in the sport he loves.
Avatar f tn Just wondering if anyone here uses an albuterol inhaler and are they safe to use during pregnancy? I use one every now and then but not on a daily basis. I'm only 5 weeks along. I used mine tonight because I felt like I absolutely had to.
Avatar f tn I would like to ask if the ipratropium inhaler is available with the combination of salbutamol and what brand?
Avatar f tn My asthma inhaler Combivent was causing the hives. I have no problem with albuterol; it was the ipratropium bromide in Combivent causing the hives. I now stay away from any inhaler (like Spiriva) containing similar bromide components. Also check meds you take for sulphur. I can tell a new med contains sulphur when my hands itch like crazy from hives. I am also IGA deficient (immunoglobulin A deficient). Which explains why I seem to catch every cold and flu going around.
Avatar n tn Xopenx 1.25 mg and Ipratropium Bromide 0.02%.
Avatar n tn im 15 weeks and on albuterol inhaler and when my doctor brough up my asthma to me at my last appointment she told me not being able to breath is more of a risk to my baby than taking my albuterol. id assume the same is true for you. if they dont think that inhaler is safe for you or baby anymore, maybe they can switch you to something to use during the pregnancy that will help you breathe.
1754037 tn?1327886811 Before getting pregnant with my first son I was on two inhalers albuterol as needed and once a day I took a pulmicort inhaler(steriod). When I found out I was pregnant I did get off the pulmicort but stayed on the albuterol(only needed it once or twice a day). My son came out healthy and is now a healthy 4yr old. I am now 36weeks with my second son and I've had to take my albuterol inhaler anytime I go outside due to fires around where I live.
Avatar n tn Albuterol is a bronchodilator used to treat many of the same issues as Flovent, but it can also be used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Albuterol comes in a syrup, tablet, or as a suspension in an inhaler. Albuterol works by causing the passages to the lung to relax and open, which makes breathing easier.
Avatar n tn Is there a significant difference between using an albuterol inhaler as opposed to a Combivent inhaler? I have a family member that receives an extra monthly Combivent inhaler but am not sure if it is safe to use long term instead of the albuterol I was prescribed.
1754037 tn?1327886811 I am 18 weeks and have asthma, I have had it my whole life, I am one of those who was born with it and didn't grow out of it. I take my albuterol inhaler a couple times a day. My OB/GYN also put me on flovent cause the steriod I was on before I was pregnant hadn't been tested on pregnant women and she wanted to be safe. My OB said that is safe to use both the albuterol and my flovent, especially because it causes more damage when you deprive the baby of oxygen.
Avatar f tn Yes, Atrovent is ipratropium bromide is used for COPD. I use Duoneb which is a combination of albuterol and ipratropium. You are making me wonder if I can manage with ipratropium alone. I have never tried it. I will ask my lung doctor. I use a portable nebulizer. With that I can take as little as I need (or as much).
Avatar n tn First of all it is absolutely positively impossible to get a "high" off an albuterol inhaler. Secondly, the inhaler is NOT to be used "before exercising" but only in the event of shortness of breath. A little known secret is that the inhaler can improve athletic performance somewhat by opening up the alveoli and getting more oxygen into the bloodstream. For a long distance runner or swimmer this might mean the difference between coming in first, rather than second.
Avatar m tn The doctor may decide that you now need a prescription for the steroid type of inhaler to use once or twice a day and the Albuterol as and when you need it. There are different types of steroid inhalers, but their job is about the same. So if the doctor prescribes you with one that is not helping, do get back to him to try you on a different one.
Avatar m tn t see a trigger between my albuterol and tachy. The slight increase I get from the inhaler is so mild and feels different than when my heart just pops up to 150 or more. Recently I went back on Diltiazem. Not to control the arrhythmias (although it does help with that). I was having increasing chest pains which I supposed were vasospasms. The med is helping with that and I'm happy.
1047019 tn?1256719961 And if you use excessive amounts, which I did when I was first diagnosed with asthma and was only given an Albuterol inhaler, it will make you feel awful...and I mean you'll feel like complete and total crap...muscle cramps, nervousness, hand tremors, heart palpitations, loss of appetite, inability to concentrate, altered sense of taste, difficulty sleeping, sweating, fluctuations in body temperature.
392548 tn?1216610779 Interesting to read all these comments! I got a really bad cold in mid-February, which included a lower respiratory infection (which I don't recall ever having before.) I was prescribed an Azithromycin antibiotic, Robitussin with Codeine and Albuterol inhaler. I've long since been off those and still to this day (2 months later), my lungs still feel slightly tight and itchy. I can take a deep breath okay, but it's a strange feeling, especially since I've never had this before.
Avatar f tn Today while I am not as tired as I have been since I have been sick, the chest tightness reoccurred briefly in the afternoon. Using my albuterol inhaler helped, then the coughing returned. I still have a lot of mucus and my chest is slightly tight. It is all not as bad as it was before but is the medrol pack supposed to help clear this up? I thought at the very least I would have relief during the 6 days I am on it.
