Does anyone know what to take for an alternative to Aggrenox? I had a TIA almost 4 years ago and was put on Aggrenox, well, my husband will be losing his job in a week due to the economy which also means we will be losing our health insurance as well. I asked my doctor if he could take me off it and put me on something else and all he said was he would prefer I stayed on Aggrenox. I don't think we can afford it because it is $305 for a month supply!
Aggrenox does have aspirin in it. It is recommended for strokes, as you already know. I'm not sure why the Dr has taken away the Aggrenox. Maybe he feels that taking aspirin is equivalent with less side effects? Aspirin does work well to help prevent stokes and heart attacks. So, there was no reason given for the change?
I was put on Aggrenox/Aspirin after my stroke about 2 months ago. Does anyone on the same treatment take any kind of Vitamins/Herbs with this medication?
I've found that Aggrenox seems to work without side effects. It's primarily baby aspirin, but also contains a drug that prevents platelets from sticking together. I've taken it twice a day since my stroke, and it appears to work, but who ever knows?
to Mayo and with all saying the same its still not sinking into this head... there is no fix... He has been sent home on a blood thinner (aggrenox) as to not thin the blood to much... With a healthy heart pumping against a 20% opening (when last tested)... So at night he is on oxgen to slow down the heart at night, for the heart pumps harder as ones breathing slows as we sleep... We live 30 mins from the closest hospital which isn't set up to handle this so life fight is another step...
I take 16 or 17 medications including the all inclusive plavix. a 3.25 aspiriin. AGGRENOX,Zocor,and a host of others.I watch my diet and exercise until it hurts to prove to my Dr. that I'm not just lying around. With your "scientific ' MINDS can you help?
I was just dignosed with a ASA which is associated with a PFO (patent foramen ovale) went to a neurologist and cardiologist and they both agreed that the only treatment at this point is blood thinner and aspirin i was told to take Aggrenox twice a day and a adult aspirin as well they found out about this because i have had 2 TIA's 1st one 2009 second one in 2010 but other than that i have never had any other symptoms nevertheless i used to get migranes a headaches all the time when i was yo
In June '08 I was sitting watching TV when my left side from my head down to my leg became stiff and numb. Went to the ER and checked by 5 neuronogists, had scans, MRI & other tests. Their consensus was a brain event in the rt. thalemus. For 2 & 1/2 yrs I was living with a 5 out of 10 sensation but last Dec. '10 as I was having dinner, the sensation became worse like an 8 out of 10 and I'm having increased trouble moving my whole left side.
you MUST contact your prescribing dr to get approval to stop this medication. Aggrenox, Plavix, and Aspirin must be discontinued for 7 days prior to injection and Ticlid 14 days prior to injection. Coumadin should be discontinued 3-4 days prior to injection and you will need to have blood work completed within 24 hours prior to procedure.
drink 1-2 full cups water 60 minutes prior to injection. eat a LIGHT meal.
Someone in my support group here is in a trial with Kaiser and taking SOC plus the Plough Shearing SI that has a number instead of a name. She's doing very well and will be done in 3 weeks.
boc trial is working good for me. I went in with a viral load of 13 million, in 2 weeks i had a viral load of 2 million. 1a . there are others here who have just about cleared. they will chime in.i will let you know next tuesday about results for 6 weeks. thats with n2 weeks of boc added.
Its been a couple years since I have been here. I did a trial in 2013 with someone that was dosing based on tsh and I eventually gave up. Now looking back I have discovered that I probably was not absorbing the medication. I also know that supplementing with iodine likely sabotaged any progress I was making since is causes tsh to rise in addition to tanking my iron. These are my observations based on the last two years of monthly labwork.
About 1-1/2 months ago he started experiencing mild itching on his legs and has now become chronic all over his body. Most of his meds have rash and itching side effects. Aggrenox was just changed to Plavix, but the itching has not stopped. 325mg of aspirin is also a future consideration as a blood thinner. He was given Ativan 0.5mg two days ago to stop the itching. The first night he practically scratched two wholes in his paralyzed arm.

I'm just afraid of what he will say I like & respect him a lot & he did not overprescribe, so I'm already anxious tapering.
The husband idea is an absolute no go unfortunately.

s and a major stroke at 46 due to PFO and ASA and have been taking Aggrenox and Simvastatin since the event. I had infectious endocarditis (symptoms mimicked congestive heart failure) at 47 at MVP which has since calcified and since unknown source, had major anitbiotics covering every possibility for 2 months through a PIC line (vanc, gent, and 2 others) which resulted in kidney failure and creatinine now close to normal.
Most trial exclude post-transplant patients. The only trial that would be conducted would be through transplant centers
Have you spoken to your transplant center? They would know about any clinical trials that they will be conducting that you would qualify for.
You will need to be under the care of a transplant center if you should make any changes to the drugs you are taking.
You can get the trial number from the informed consent and maybe send out a message to see who is in the same trial. I was in a trial with IFN, RBV, GS9451 and GS5885. Had to drop after 12 weeks due to viral load going back up as a result of resistance. This was my second attempt at tx - was a non responder the first time. Good luck and hope that you get UND and SVR.
