Avatar f tn Does anyone know what to take for an alternative to Aggrenox? I had a TIA almost 4 years ago and was put on Aggrenox, well, my husband will be losing his job in a week due to the economy which also means we will be losing our health insurance as well. I asked my doctor if he could take me off it and put me on something else and all he said was he would prefer I stayed on Aggrenox. I don't think we can afford it because it is $305 for a month supply!
Avatar n tn Aggrenox does have aspirin in it. It is recommended for strokes, as you already know. I'm not sure why the Dr has taken away the Aggrenox. Maybe he feels that taking aspirin is equivalent with less side effects? Aspirin does work well to help prevent stokes and heart attacks. So, there was no reason given for the change?
Avatar f tn I was put on Aggrenox/Aspirin after my stroke about 2 months ago. Does anyone on the same treatment take any kind of Vitamins/Herbs with this medication?
Avatar n tn I was just dignosed with a ASA which is associated with a PFO (patent foramen ovale) went to a neurologist and cardiologist and they both agreed that the only treatment at this point is blood thinner and aspirin i was told to take Aggrenox twice a day and a adult aspirin as well they found out about this because i have had 2 TIA's 1st one 2009 second one in 2010 but other than that i have never had any other symptoms nevertheless i used to get migranes a headaches all the time when i was yo
Avatar f tn I'm addited to fiorcet which has butalbital, a barb, in the old days we had the nebutals, seconal, etc. This is further complicated by a family history of severe migraines/stokes. I myself had 4 TIA's and can no longer take vaso dilators. Hence, pain meds, I use to be addictrd to Vicodin ES 30 a day, then on suboxone 4 four yrs. I found your article very interesing & concise, my WD from suboxone was worse than anything imaginable.
1013028 tn?1250923267 Hi Linda, The lupus anticoagulants usually interfere with blood clotting and are also factors for thrombosis. Patients with a lupus anticoagulant are prone to excess bleeding, repeated miscarriages, thrombosis and strokes. Patients with a lupus anticoagulant that presents atleast twice and a history of thrombosis should be given indefinite treatment with anticoagulants. Thrombosis can be prevented with heparin administration and treated with heparin and warfarin.
Avatar n tn Does anyone take vitamins/herbs with aggrenox and aspirin?
1213000 tn?1280463161 any thoughts? Should I be afraid of cardio exercise? should I have LDL aphreses? NOw on Aggrenox and off Effient but on all the other same meds Additional info: Since Jan, I quit smoking, lost 45 lbs, lowered LDL by 300 points (to 127) and raised HDL by 25 pts(to 40) lowered triglic to 70. what the heck?
Avatar f tn I've found that Aggrenox seems to work without side effects. It's primarily baby aspirin, but also contains a drug that prevents platelets from sticking together. I've taken it twice a day since my stroke, and it appears to work, but who ever knows?
Avatar f tn if you think you had a TIA get an MRI ASAP. it will show if you had a TIA. 2 yrs ago a i had a TIA, (didn't know what it was at the time), 11 days later i had a full blown stroke.
Avatar f tn The episode you described in which you had a temporary loss of your left peripheral visual field indeed sounds very much like it could have been a TIA. I am assuming that in your ophthalmologic evaluation, they did in fact confirm that you have not sustained any permanent damage to the optic nerve head as optic nerve damage can also produce visual field deficits. It would be important to clarify whether the left visual field was absent in both eyes vs. just one.
4837124 tn?1359906493 I have done extensive research and the only conclusion, considering the symptoms, is a transient ischemic attack (TIA) .I hope someone can shed some light on my issue. Thank you!
Avatar f tn My dad (92) had a TIA about a month ago. Is it common for more TIA's to occur now and will this eventually lead to a full blown stoke?
Avatar n tn I had a TIA in July but was not brought to the ER by anyone. I only recall the very beginning of it/or the actual TIA starting (had trouble talking, walkingbut then the rest of the day except for tiny bits and pieces are gone from my memory. I had a EEG to see if it was some sort of seizure and a U/S of my Carotoid artery. The EEG was fine. The U/S showed some plaque but no blockages. My father's side of the family has a very strong history of strokes and heart attacks.
Avatar f tn She described a feeling like someone putting pressure on the right side of her face and pulling down over. I thought it might have been a TIA/stroke and I am wondering if she should request to see a neurologist??
Avatar f tn Hi Ladyjane1, I had my TIA in January 2021, I felt the same when I got home from hospital. My doctor put me on Paxil, and it helped me. I was told that a stroke does that.
Avatar f tn They released me after they had done every test they could think of without knowing what was causing them. They said it was a TIA. Since then my symptoms have been coming and going, but not to the same intensity that they were when I went to the ER. Sometimes I will be fine and then it will just come on slowly and last for a few hours and then fade away. I also get migraines with the aura. Thats just awful. This happens daily if not every other day.
Avatar n tn to Mayo and with all saying the same its still not sinking into this head... there is no fix... He has been sent home on a blood thinner (aggrenox) as to not thin the blood to much... With a healthy heart pumping against a 20% opening (when last tested)... So at night he is on oxgen to slow down the heart at night, for the heart pumps harder as ones breathing slows as we sleep... We live 30 mins from the closest hospital which isn't set up to handle this so life fight is another step...
Avatar m tn I take 16 or 17 medications including the all inclusive plavix. a 3.25 aspiriin. AGGRENOX,Zocor, and a host of others.I watch my diet and exercise until it hurts to prove to my Dr. that I'm not just lying around. With your "scientific ' MINDS can you help?
Avatar n tn My husband was admitted to hospital following loss of use of his right side blurred vision, headache and speech problems. He was thought to have had a TIA but his MRI was clear. Doctors put the symptoms down to the fact he had drunk 5 pints of lager! They still say he can't drive or work for a month but if he hasn't had a TIA, why can't he drive?
Avatar n tn In June '08 I was sitting watching TV when my left side from my head down to my leg became stiff and numb. Went to the ER and checked by 5 neuronogists, had scans, MRI & other tests. Their consensus was a brain event in the rt. thalemus. For 2 & 1/2 yrs I was living with a 5 out of 10 sensation but last Dec. '10 as I was having dinner, the sensation became worse like an 8 out of 10 and I'm having increased trouble moving my whole left side.
