Aggrenox or plavix

Common Questions and Answers about Aggrenox or plavix

aggrenox

Avatar f tn Does anyone know what to take for an alternative to Aggrenox? I had a TIA almost 4 years ago and was put on Aggrenox, well, my husband will be losing his job in a week due to the economy which also means we will be losing our health insurance as well. I asked my doctor if he could take me off it and put me on something else and all he said was he would prefer I stayed on Aggrenox. I don't think we can afford it because it is $305 for a month supply!
1013028 tn?1250923267 Hi Linda, The lupus anticoagulants usually interfere with blood clotting and are also factors for thrombosis. Patients with a lupus anticoagulant are prone to excess bleeding, repeated miscarriages, thrombosis and strokes. Patients with a lupus anticoagulant that presents atleast twice and a history of thrombosis should be given indefinite treatment with anticoagulants. Thrombosis can be prevented with heparin administration and treated with heparin and warfarin.
Avatar n tn I cut the Gabapentin to a lower dose and I think it was from another prescription Plavix and they changed it to Aggrenox I am doing fine now. Age is a bummer. I feel 30 but my body does not realize this! Smile.I appreciate your time and answer. Have a wonderful Summer.
Avatar f tn About 1-1/2 months ago he started experiencing mild itching on his legs and has now become chronic all over his body. Most of his meds have rash and itching side effects. Aggrenox was just changed to Plavix, but the itching has not stopped. 325mg of aspirin is also a future consideration as a blood thinner. He was given Ativan 0.5mg two days ago to stop the itching. The first night he practically scratched two wholes in his paralyzed arm.
Avatar f tn Because of the stroke, which I am assuming was caused by a clot in the brain since they are treating her with blood thinners, she needs to be on a thinner indefinitely. If she takes nothing, the chances of her having another stroke related to a clot is high. I am not sure if her physician would be agreeable to try a simple 81 mg baby aspirin with her. Plavix is another blood thinner that is prescribed also.
Avatar m tn I take 16 or 17 medications including the all inclusive plavix. a 3.25 aspiriin. AGGRENOX,Zocor, and a host of others.I watch my diet and exercise until it hurts to prove to my Dr. that I'm not just lying around. With your "scientific ' MINDS can you help?
Avatar n tn Aggrenox does have aspirin in it. It is recommended for strokes, as you already know. I'm not sure why the Dr has taken away the Aggrenox. Maybe he feels that taking aspirin is equivalent with less side effects? Aspirin does work well to help prevent stokes and heart attacks. So, there was no reason given for the change?
Avatar n tn you MUST contact your prescribing dr to get approval to stop this medication. Aggrenox, Plavix, and Aspirin must be discontinued for 7 days prior to injection and Ticlid 14 days prior to injection. Coumadin should be discontinued 3-4 days prior to injection and you will need to have blood work completed within 24 hours prior to procedure. drink 1-2 full cups water 60 minutes prior to injection. eat a LIGHT meal.
Avatar f tn I was put on Aggrenox/Aspirin after my stroke about 2 months ago. Does anyone on the same treatment take any kind of Vitamins/Herbs with this medication?
Avatar n tn Stents put in and have been taking plavix ever since. Any alternatives?. I have not had any recurrence of angina or anything. Have had treadmills and echograms since with flying colors.
Avatar f tn Plavix has a unique mechanism of action by blocking the amplification of platelet activation by released ADP, and often used with aspirin to prevent the risk of clots for the first year after DES implant. Plavix and aspirin have different mechanism of action to prevent clots. After a year, plavix is usually discontinue as the risk for clots is decreased, and aspirin is continued long term. The risk of a clot is about 3%.
Avatar n tn I recently had a stroke and my legs have pain also. Don't know if its from exercising or not.
Avatar m tn I am consulting another neurologist next week to see if there is something we are missing or any treatments that might help his situation. Any thoughts???
Avatar n tn s that recommend plavix up to a year or more after stent implants. From what I have read, plavix has a different mecnanism that prevents platelet formation (clots) and with aspirin it is the best regimen...but with renal insufficiency there may be other consideratioins.
255163 tn?1376869746 My heart Dr will not let me go off the plavix and my surgeon will not do the surgery while on plavix. What happens in a situation like this?. I am between a rock and a hard place. If neither Dr gives in what do I do? If I have an attack and end up in the ER wouldn't they have to do emergency sugery?. Does this mean that anyone on plavix can never have surgery unless it's an ermergency. What is your opinion on going off plavix temporarily for surgery. I would welcome anyones advice.
Avatar m tn The schedule that your dad is taking now is not tested and is therefore not recommended. So he should either stay on Plavix or switch completely to Aspirin. Plavix is more potent but also has more side effects than aspirin (bruizing, gastrointestinal bleeding, stomach ulcers, etc). There have been a lot of tests about the safety of Plavix for prolonged periods. The outcomes were not always so positive for Plavix, so I would be glad to stop taking it when my doctor told me so.
Avatar m tn Did you have a heart attack in 07 or how did you happen to get on 2 plavix a day? Did your doctor determine that you risk was so high that he wanted you on Plavix long term, these are the only circumstances that using Plavix long term would be.
Avatar m tn Or you go on some sort of short term strategy thats easily reversible like heparin, or they decide that pulling plavix would be a lower risk. In any case this is absolutely.. Positively a cardiology decision. Dont ***ever*** let anyone.. No matter how experienced or credentialed they are from, any other discipline tell you to stop taking your plavix unless they come from cardiology or vascular surgery.
1213000 tn?1280463161 any thoughts? Should I be afraid of cardio exercise? should I have LDL aphreses? NOw on Aggrenox and off Effient but on all the other same meds Additional info: Since Jan, I quit smoking, lost 45 lbs, lowered LDL by 300 points (to 127) and raised HDL by 25 pts(to 40) lowered triglic to 70. what the heck?
Avatar m tn I have been taking Plavix 75 MG daily. A recent plavix test showed it was not helping. Now my PA has me on 150 MG Plavix. I really bleed when scratched now. Should I take the Plavix test again to see if the increased dossage is working? I am also taking 325 mg asprin.
255163 tn?1376869746 My Cardio will now let me off plavix for 7 days for any surgery or procedure needed. But it still is a little scary.
Avatar n tn My father does not have any current heart condition, but felt a twinge and was going to go in for a test. In preparation for the test, or just as a precaution, he was put on Plavix even though he was on aspirin therapy. He does not have high blood pressure and is diabetic. Before the test could be performed, he had a massive gastrointestinal bleed. After a week in the hospital, and many blood transfusions, he is home recovering.
Avatar m tn Structual collapse of a stent would indicate an improper size or defect. I discontinued plavix after year, and I have never heard of plavix associated with a collapsed stent! There may be a misunderstanding.
