Common Questions and Answers about Actos and blood sugar

actos

Avatar f tn Hi all, My hubby was dx'ed 2 weeks ago w/ diabetes II. His regular doc put him on 30 mg Actos daily. At 1st hubby's blood sugar was a whopping 390- now it's down to 76-90 in the am and no more than 180 even after lots of sugary food. Obviously the blood sugar is well under control now. The problem is, my husband's vision is going crazy! I know that diabetes can cause vision problems when blood sugar is high, but the way it's happening doesn't make sense.
Avatar n tn I am diabetic and I have been running 220 on my blood sugar on a regular basis even when I test it in the morning without any food. When my sugar drops to 150, I get really tired, weird feeling in my legs and nauseas. For someone like me who constantly has a high blood sugar is 150 considered low? Also can high blood sugar be related in any way to weight loss?
923105 tn?1341827649 I was not told about the tendency to raise blood sugar as its side effect. I monitor my blood sugar daily upon waking up and in two weeks it has gone down to 123 fasting. I weighed 176 lbs. (5'6") on the buff at the beginning and lost a couple of pounds since then. I will be three quarter of a century old next month. I'm cutting down on my food intake particularly on carbs. I was told that it will take several weeks for Actos to take full effect.
1523195 tn?1291322372 I went to the doctor to make full body analysis for diabetes and the blood sugar level was 290 , he prescribed me two tablets / day of Glucophage 1000mg and one tablet / day of ACTOS 30mg. Please tell me in my case is diabetes one of the diseases that can be controlled easy ? I'm scared of diabetes needles in the long run (if it has been developed and not controlled) . Is there any healthy way to reduce it to a normal level?
Avatar m tn I would suggest you talk to your doctor about these readings and have him give you the correct medication to control your blood sugar. 170 is very high for a fasting blood sugar.
489891 tn?1209058786 My question is y are you taking byetta and actos+met... and I'm on topamx, but for seizures... I'm also on actos plusmet 15/500 just once a day, with a insulin pump ( i take apidra in my pump)... byetta and actos plus met are very similar drugs doing the same thing.. the actos+met will make you gain weight very quickly. How many shots of byetta are you taking a day a long with the actos plus met? and what dose of actos are you taking and why...
Avatar m tn m active during the day and have little activity after dinner and while sleeping, is it possible that taking the Actos and 4mg Glimepride BEFORE dinner and the 2mg Glimepride in the morning could lower the morning readings?
Avatar m tn About 2-1/2 weeks ago I had a shot in the spine for pinched nerves. It had cortisone in it. I've had other cortisone shots (shoulders, hips) in my life before and the blood sugar increase only stayed a few days. This time my blood sugar is still high after the injection and doesn't want to budge. My fasting runs about 188 or so. I take 15 mg of Actos. I have type 2, and I'm a female in late 50's. My doc doesn't want to increase the Actos yet. My question is..
Avatar f tn Mono test was negative and so was H pylori blood test. I suspect the Actos started my problems. I felt bloated and full, pain in one specific area on left side, stomach stopped growling, etc. After being off the actos (I still take amaryl and lisinopril) for 3 months I still feel occasional bloating and pain on left side but now I feel like something stuck in my throat. I don't have any trouble swallowing saliva or food/drinks.
Avatar f tn Are there any diabetics taking treatment? One of side effects is elevated blood sugar . Can someone help!
Avatar n tn Hello, Glimiperide and Actos have good data to show that they can bring down blood sugars, with a change in A1C of between 0.5-about 1.2% each, and with both you can have a greater effect. However they depend on your body having enough of its own insulin to work. In addition, some medications work better in some people than others. Also be sure that you have made changes in your diet to help improve success in bringing your sugars down.
Avatar f tn t an overdose of Ativan, I was actually having a stroke at the time of my hospital visit and my potassium was very low and as the time in ER was spent, so did my sugar and they did nothing about it. I was diagnosed one week later with Microvascular Disease in my brain. My nerve endings and small blood vessels are damaged. Complications from Diabetes.
Avatar f tn There are several different medications used for type 2 diabetes, all of which work to lower blood sugar in a little different way. Talk with your doctor about which one might be right for you.
Avatar f tn Super_Sally has great advice. I would add that you can ask your doctor about an insulin pump and maybe a continuous glucose monitoring system. It's a system that tests your blood sugar every 5 minutes and alerts you when it goes outside of the perimeters you set. Then the you can have the insulin pump deliver enough insulin to bring it back down to what you need. A friend of mine has one. She has type 1 and her sugars were out of control, getting up to the 400's daily.
Avatar f tn Yesterday he ate a total of 62 grams of sugar and 17 carbs. How bad is this, and what should he eat to help him out? I know pasta and starchy foods aren't good at this point. Thanks!
Avatar n tn So the more fat cells you have in your body, the higher your blood sugar levels. If you lose excess weight and keep it off, you have a much better chance at avoiding diabetes than if you let the weight creep up, even if you ARE eating properly.
Avatar n tn I take my bolld sugars of a morning fasting and they are like 167-191, I take 1000 mg of janumet and 18 units of lantus before bed, of a morning I take 20 Units of lantus, 45 mg actos why am I having problems regulating my blood sugars, I also take 7 units of novalog after every meal??? Do you have any other sugustions??
Avatar n tn "The Doctor and I have the blood sugar under control (89 to 130)" These numbers indicate control only if the former was derived from a fasting glucose test and the latter a postprandial test result. Other than that, they are not in "control". "a1c seems to keep in th range of 7.7 to 8.1" This says you average daily blood glucose level is 197 mg/dl to 211 mg/dl, basically suicidal. You have one foot in the door, if not step inside the door of diabetes complications.
Avatar n tn I will admit I have not been managing my sugar levels and have not been looking after my condition. Now, that I went thru this ordeal and finding myself almost at a point of dying, I have been checking and trying to monitor my levels. I have been having too many low blood sugars. Unfortunately my endocrinologist cannot see me right away and I need some advice on managing low sugar levels. For the last few days I have been feeling very tired, sleepy and down.
Avatar n tn My fingers are so numb, and my urine is dark yellow and opaque. Yesterday and today I stopped taking Metformin I feel better; however, but my blood sugar in the morning was measured 143 and 242 after I ate dinner. Please give me an advice about my situation. Thank you very much .
1236243 tn?1277680851 See this link for FDA issued warnings on Actos and Avandia http://diabetes.niddk.nih.gov/dm/pubs/medicines_ez/insert_J.aspx Kinda makes you wonder if it's time to leave the sinking ship.
1013254 tn?1337900972 The endo is not caring for my blood sugar, my primary is and he has recently put me on Januvia, that with the Metformin has my blood sugar is under control again....thanks! I was on Metformin and Actos but with the scare of Actos causing cancer and me being without insurance, I couldn't afford to buy the Actos. That is when my sugar leaped up. After the bloodwork, Doc started me on the Metformin/Januvia (samples) and I'm good there now!
Avatar n tn I'm told that addisons and diabeties do oy go together and wondering if 'actos ' and cortef wil work to gether, I have had addisons since 1981, thefore been taking cortef a long time .. thanks for info ...
Avatar m tn Anyway, my blood glucose used to be around the 140 mark then I started taking Actos 30 mg mg., I now take ONLY take 15 mg and my fasting blood sugar is around 110 to 115. I also barely eat in the morning - a cup of yogart and a banana for breakfast, a small turkey sandwhich for lunch. Afternoon I feel I'm having a hypglycemic attack so I have some cookies and coffee or tea (I need the caffeine- I'm dying from fatigue!
178107 tn?1315947630 I started taking it four weeks ago and it has done wonders on controling my blood sugars and I have also lost 16 pounds. My doctor told me that it may help me to drop a few pounds, but I never thought it could help that much. I admit it does make you nausious, but I can take that for the weight loss.
Avatar n tn I'm a novice when it comes to diabetes so I could use some help. I'm on 2.5mg of Glipizide and have been for about four years. My doctor discourages blood glucose testings -- says that's only necessary if I were on insulin. However, I will occasionally check my blood sugar -- maybe once or twice a month or if I'm not feeling well. I checked it on Sunday and found it was running somewhat high.
Avatar f tn My son was diagnosed prediabetic about two or three years ago with an unfortunate hypoglycemic dip. He cut all refined sugar and never has high blood sugar but can have dangerously low blood sugar now and he becomes quite sick so he has to work hard to make sure to eat small meals with a healthy mix of carbs and proteins so he keeps a stable blood sugar. He also uses fruit or fruit juice (never sucrose) if his sugar gets too low.
