How safe is it and will I have more problems with my bones aching - I can't sleep at night a lot from the pain. This discussion is related to Atrial Fibulation / Multi-Infarct Dimentia.

Avatar m tn My wife is a 65 year old in good health who has taken FOSAMAX for 5 1/2 years. She wants to get her teeth straightened. The periodontist has recommended a procedure to reinforce the gums prior to the braces. This has added an additional 6K to the price and about 3 months to the total time to straighten the teeth.
Avatar n tn Tina, I can't help you with the question of if you get osteo effects from treatment, but I can tell you that I am on Actonel along with doing treatment. I developed osteoperosis at 42 years old and before treatment. I think that based on my experience, I would say that osteo effects (I also have osteoarthritis) may come from the hcv, not the treatment for hcv. That would just be my guess.

Avatar n tn dental work - there are blackbox warnings about osteonecrosis of the jaw (bone death) The mother of a woman that I worked with took Fosamax for a few months and her teeth began to loosen - an oral surgeon had to pull teeth from a quadrant of her mouth and add some sort of bone replacement. The oral surgeon who did my root canal 2 years ago told me (reluctantly) agreed that the bone drugs are becoming controversial.
Avatar n tn About 4 months ago I noticed when I would clench my teeth together I would get this fuzzy noise right in the back of my jaw. It was only on the left side. I would unclench and it would go away. Then I noticed that I had a bit of clicking like TMJ in my jaw....not too serious but it was there. Then I noticed that I got this noise in my left ear....quite similar to the noise that I got when I clenched my jaw. There are times when it's almost inaudible and other times it can be loud.
Avatar f tn She started out with Fosamax, and after awhile when side effects start from that one, and Actonel was available, they put her on Actonel and she was on Actonel all the way up until it was stopped at 79. So, I have that in my mind (her being mom and my genes and all), and decided that I want to put off bone drugs as long as I can. If I can reverse this w/o them, than I'm going to.
Avatar m tn Not just because of the possibility of loss of bone density, but because of our overall condition during treatment. I do not include filling cavities or teeth cleaning in this category. I had my teeth cleaned every three months on treatment along with some minor dental work.
974371 tn?1424656729 As for the bruising and bleeding easily can there be a drug you are on that causes this? Not sure about the loose teeth. Have they checked your enamel on your teeth and are you getting enough calcium? Meaning have they retested your calcium level? I wouldn't worry about being addicted to the Alprazolam (Zanax). I can't stand that med as it makes me very sick. I can't eat, dizzy, sick at my stomach and feel faint and washed out. It is a horrible drug.
Avatar f tn Interesting that some doctors are onto the problem and it isn't on the radar for others. It makes sense that problems with teeth are related too. TX causes significant BMD loss in men too. I am thinking if I already have osteopenia now and am recently menopausal I am looking at some serious issues some years down the track. I like my (slightly) rough and tumble sport. Don't want to be carried out of the forrest on a stretcher.
