I have had very little problems with Prolia. I've done 4 injections over the past 2 years. Just a little bit of bone pain for the first 2 wks after the injection then, it goes away. That said, unfortunately, for me, my DEXA did not improve and my osteoporosis in my spine (the T-score) did not get better. Now, my doctor is sending me to a 'bone' clinic that apparently specializes in bone disorders such as osteoporosis.
They are given generally prescribed orally and include Fosamax, Actonel and Boniva. They can cause some severe stomach distress as they did for my father. When this happens there are injectable forms of bisphosphonates.
Ibandronate (Boniva injection) is injected into your vein once every three months, and zoledronic acid (Reclast) is injected once a year. If approved by your physician these treatments do not cause stomach distress and you do not have to remember to take a tablet.
I have taken fosamax and actonel and have had stomach problems and aching bones. My doctor is thinking about the yearly injection of reclast. How safe is it and will I have more problems with my bones aching - I can't sleep at night a lot from the pain.

I recommend checking out the website "Save Our Bones". It is an alternative to using bisphosphonates (Fosamax, Boniva, Actonel, et al) These drugs interrupt the remodeling of bones by adding a "sheath" or layer of hardening to the outside of the bones in an effort to prevent bone "loss". Bones remodel (replace) naturally every few years.
One of the problems with bones is our diets are often highly acidic by processed foods.
Is boniva a possible cause of papilloma virus on the eyelid going into the conjunctiva?

Bisphosphonates like Boniva have been associated rarely with uveitis. You would experience ocular pain, blurred vision, light sensitivity, loss of vision and possibly glaucoma if you had uveitis. Your ophthalmologist would be able to tell you right away if you had any uveitis and the Boniva could be discontinued if that were the case.
The change in your DEXA results is puzzling. I am inclined to agree with your husband that you should wait a year or even 6 months to get it done again.
I know how two treatments affected me, you just finished number 11, not that I am keeping count or anything ha ha.
I had some beginning problem with my gums at one point after tx and my doctor asked me to be more aggressive with flossing. So, I started flossing 2 or 3 times a day along with brushing and rinsing with Listerine YUCK.
I noted that for the last several months whenever I took Boniva I had significant swelling under both eyes. Thus, when this past Sunday, 5/23 I developed the papilloma on my left lower eyelid (center) which at first seemed to have a point on top & next day became more elongated I thought Boniva. I would appreciate any feedback as to cause & what possible treatment. It, not very large & seems to be same size this first week.
No doctor ever told me that I can take Boniva, or whatever, intravenously. Now I have three doctors talking with each other to decide what medicine their going to give me. It's the end of May already and they have been bouncing this around since March!!! My 85 1/2 yr. old mother has great bones. So as I'm typing now, I just may be continuing to loose more bone. (Oh..if I take it intavenously my kidneys have to be watched more). Ugg!!!

I am 3 years post breast cancer i had lumpectomy chemo rads i have taken tamoxofen for 2,5 years now on aromasil i had a bone density scan and was told i had low calcuim levels, now on calcuim sandox and actonel asked if i had osetoprosis and was told no have read around actonel and have not taken it yet as of the side effects please can you advice thanks.
I take once monthly Actonel. While I was pushing the pill through the foil blister, it broke. I did not take that pill for fear that it could cause stomach problems. My question is would it have been safe to take? Also, if I contact Proctor & Gamble, do you think they might replace the pill. If it was a daily pill, I wouldn't worry about, but I just lost a whole month of medicine due to a faulty package design.
i currnetly am taking actonel for my bones the past 3 years and klonopin i per night and take alot of vitamins such as B compex etc. no alcohol consumption but i do smoke half a pack of cigarettes per day no other medical conditions known 6 months ago all my blood workups were normal . ANY IDEAS WHAT CAN BE GOING ON WITH ME ?
The technician looked at my med list and asked if I am taking Boniva and Synthroid. I answered yes. I take other meds other than those two she mentioned. I told her that I understood why she asked about the Boniva but I didn't understand why she asked about Synthroid. She told me that thyroid meds take from the bones and causes osteoporosis. WHAT??? How come no doctor ever told me?
Right hip replacement. I'm on requip, lyrica, cymbalta,celebrex, just starting actonel plus vitamins & calcium. thank you. I'm 76, female. I have osteoporosis of the right hip and osteopenia of the left hip. I have peripheral neuropathy (familial), and two bad knees.
I am just tired of taking medicenes that seem to cause other problems. I think I have the GERD from taking Actonel even though I followed the instructions to the letter for taking the Actonel. No longer take it. Just take calcium.
She does not have any cramping, but they are watery. This all started when she began to take Boniva several months ago. She stopped taking it 2 months ago. I have suggested that it has not all left her system yet and this may take some time. She has not changed her diet or any meds. She is a creature of habit and eats and does the same things every day. extremely swollen right leg especially around knee joint - could not even bend knee, terrible hip pain and two days later a tooth abscess. What are the chances I can tolerate Boniva once a month? My Endocrinologist wants me to try it.
I think that the best one to answer your question about stopping HRT, gradually or abruptly would be your family doctor.Since you are taking Boniva and calcium +vitamin D,(which I am also taking) your bones are well protected and I would definitively stop taking Prempo.As we age,you know that we are more prone to get breast cancer,so it's important that we avoid the estrogen that can cause it.
But her bone density tests (I think) are fine. One physican gave her Synthroid, another told her to stop. One perscribed Boniva, another said no, cause she is a young lady. Here are her labs. Any comments?
