Avatar f tn I have taken fosamax and actonel and have had stomach problems and aching bones. My doctor is thinking about the yearly injection of reclast. How safe is it and will I have more problems with my bones aching - I can't sleep at night a lot from the pain. Avatar n tn I take once monthly Actonel. While I was pushing the pill through the foil blister, it broke. I did not take that pill for fear that it could cause stomach problems. My question is would it have been safe to take? Also, if I contact Proctor & Gamble, do you think they might replace the pill. If it was a daily pill, I wouldn't worry about, but I just lost a whole month of medicine due to a faulty package design.
Avatar n tn ve done 4 injections over the past 2 years. Just a little bit of bone pain for the first 2 wks after the injection then, it goes away. That said, unfortunately, for me, my DEXA did not improve and my osteoporosis in my spine (the T-score) did not get better. Now, my doctor is sending me to a 'bone' clinic that apparently specializes in bone disorders such as osteoporosis. I have thought about this long and hard since getting my DEXA result.
Avatar n tn I took Actonal to set up for the aramadix but in 4 weeks of taking actonal without aramadix because they wanted to build up my bones for i have osteopenia. I could not walk I got Morton Neuroma which is the nerves under my feet swelled up from taking actonel. I felt like an old lady and it was painful. So now my oncologist wants me to stay on Toxmaxcin. hope i am clear now.
Avatar n tn Given my family history of cancer, esophogeal cancer is probably higher on the list of risks for me than a broken hip, so I will continue to take the Prevacid and not the Actonel. I hope that some information in this post will help you. Good Luck.
Avatar n tn i currnetly am taking actonel for my bones the past 3 years and klonopin i per night and take alot of vitamins such as B compex etc. no alcohol consumption but i do smoke half a pack of cigarettes per day no other medical conditions known 6 months ago all my blood workups were normal . ANY IDEAS WHAT CAN BE GOING ON WITH ME ?
Avatar n tn I have had osteopenia for many years; I have been able to rebuild my bone density by taking calcium and magnesium, but if you've already been diagnosed with osteoporosis, you might need to go on a med specifically for that. What is your current thyroid status?
Avatar n tn There are a number of different methods... Upper Cervical techniques, as well as instrument-based techniques are advised. Here are a few: Upper Cervical: Blair, NUCCA, Grostic, AO, Palmer Upper Cervical Specific Instrument-based: Activator, Pro-Adjuster, Arthro-Stim Adam Tanase, D.C. www.drtanase.
Avatar n tn You should follow up with bone density scans and visits with your dr. Yes, it get worse. My mom went from osteopenia to full blown osteoporosis in one year as confirmed on a scan. Be sure to take the right amount of calcium, vit.d and get some sunshine too. Also, walking and light weight lifting are said to help. Sodas are known to deplete calcium levels so it may be wise to not drink soda. You should really see your dr.

Avatar n tn Recent xray report says osteopenia, despite a life of too much food and an extreme amount of weight-bearing. (My extreme Diet Coke intake probably explains the deficiency.) So I bought Viactive caramel chews which supply calcium, vitamin D, and vitamin K. Faithfully taking them-cheap and taste so damn good it is hard to limit myself to the daily dosage lol.
Avatar f tn I'm not surprised to hear that you have osteopenia. I also have osteopenia as well and I'm in my 30's. If you have osteopenia, you are at greater risk for getting osteoporosis. The normal treatment is vitamin D supplementation, but there is now some controversy surrounding that. There are people now, including myself, who believe that a low vitamin D level does not cause the disease, but it is rather a symptom of the disease... and that vitamin D supplements will make it worse.
Avatar f tn I would check first to make sure your insurance company will pay for the test. The test rules out osteopenia and osteoporosis. I know I have osteopenia and many other women and even men with CFS and fibro have osteopenia or osteoporosis as well.
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed Fosamax for osteopenia. I took the stuff for about 6 years, and each of my bone density test results were a little worse than the previous one. Recently I learned that many women who took this medication for as long as I did got femur fractures as a result. When a doctor on ABC national news suggested that women stop taking it after 5 years, I made an appointment with my doctor to discuss stopping this med. My doctor agreed, but now suggests that I take Evista.
Avatar m tn Non-hormonal biphosphonates (such as Fosamax and Actonel) increase bone strength and are available as once-a-week pills. These can also be taken. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn So I let the previous trial work its way out of my system for 5 days and tried another full dose. This is three days after the dose and I am weaker each day. I move in slow motion. My doctor is puzzled. Anyone had a similar experience?
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with stage 1 ER/PR+ breast cancer 6 mos ago. I had a lumpectomy and radiation. I had my ovaries removed 3 mos ago due to cysts and endometriosis resulting in surgical menopause. I am having severe hot flashes, night sweats, etc. My oncologist suggested Effexor which has not worked. She wants me to start Arimidix soon. I had a bone density scan and it came back -2.1 (osteopenia). Based on the bone density scan and the hot flashes, I do not want to take Arimidix.
