Avatar n tn I take once monthly Actonel. While I was pushing the pill through the foil blister, it broke. I did not take that pill for fear that it could cause stomach problems. My question is would it have been safe to take? Also, if I contact Proctor & Gamble, do you think they might replace the pill. If it was a daily pill, I wouldn't worry about, but I just lost a whole month of medicine due to a faulty package design.

Avatar m tn Non-hormonal biphosphonates (such as Fosamax and Actonel) increase bone strength and are available as once-a-week pills. These can also be taken. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn i am a student at the university of leeds. I study product design and for my final project i am designing a pill dispenser. would anyone feel comfortable answering a questionnaire i have designed towards people who take regular medication?
720656 tn?1311040235 You might want to ask your pharmacist for more specific directions as far as the timing of your meds. I take Actonel once a month and my pharmacist said it was fine to take it at the same time as my levothyroxine since Actonel is also supposed to be taking first thing in the morning. Don't mix meds unless you get an all clear from a pharmacist.
Avatar n tn I have started mega doses of supplements and calcium and D and excercise and I want someone to tell me that that has worked for them. Most comments I get is to take the drug because it's more effective. I can't believe everyone is taking bisphosphonates or other drugs like that. Please let me hear from you if you see this!,,, Thanks, and hope you are doing well!
Avatar f tn I have taken fosamax and actonel and have had stomach problems and aching bones. My doctor is thinking about the yearly injection of reclast. How safe is it and will I have more problems with my bones aching - I can't sleep at night a lot from the pain. This discussion is related to Atrial Fibulation / Multi-Infarct Dimentia.

Avatar n tn He wants me to see a rheumatologist but an available appointment will be months away. I am 75 and have been on Vytorin for at least 5 years as well as Actonel. My bone scan last year was good for someone my age. What should I do while waiting to see an arthritis doctor? How serious could this be?
Avatar f tn Osteoporosis medications like Raloxifene (Evista), alendronate (Fosomax), risendronate (Actonel) and ibandronate (Boniva) all can cause flu like symptoms in individuals that are taking them. I am not sure what medications you are on, but this could be your problem.
Avatar f tn t believe that at my age , this is a huge problem for me. I am taking Paxil and for the last 10 years I was taking Actonel, until my doctor suggested I stop because of medical reports showing after long use, it stops working. I know the 2 problems are not linked, but still remain a concern. Is there a medication to stop me from my late night binges. This is when I eat the most. It seems there would be an appetite supressant that would be helpful.
Avatar f tn I have severe osteoporosis and am trying to take Forteo. I started out with half dose and have worked up to a full dose. The full dose 2 days in a row was disabling. My doctor suggested every other day. So I let the previous trial work its way out of my system for 5 days and tried another full dose. This is three days after the dose and I am weaker each day. I move in slow motion. My doctor is puzzled. Anyone had a similar experience?
Avatar m tn Food and Drug Administration raised concerns about the potential for some serious side effects in women taking bone-building drugs called bisphosphonates, specifically Fosamax, Actonel and Reclast. The published findings are not new.
Avatar f tn I have IBS> I started to take fosamax once a week (for osteo). did so for 4 weeks. it seemed to bother my esophagus (bumping, reflux) so my doctor suggested actonel. i took one pill a week ago and since have had increasing sensation of a lump in my throat, and like I'm full of phlegm that I can't ever swallow down. I can eat so of course I am swallowing. I'm off all drug right now but throat/phlegm sensations feel settled in, especailly bad at night, and are anxiety provoking.
Avatar n tn m 40 years old and recently found out that I also have osteo penia in one of the vertabrae in my lower back and my doctor wants me to take Actonel...however, those bone density medications can really exacerbate the reflux problems.
974371 tn?1424653129 I have read a lot on these boards of people complaining of nausea, me included. I have suffered with it daily for months, no relief even from Zofran. One Doc said I had a motility disorder, another one said IBS. I was pretty much confined to home. Read ginger tea helped so tried that, with some relief. Saw a GI doctor at Stanford who suggested Ginger and Acupuncture. I had gotten acupuncture before with great results for sciatic issues. Made an appt with my acupuncture doctor, who is great!
20922415 tn?1661860103 If pregnancy occurs, progesterone is produced in the placenta, and levels remain elevated throughout the pregnancy. The combination of high estrogen and progesterone levels suppresses further ovulation during pregnancy. Progesterone also encourages the growth of milk-producing glands in the breast during pregnancy. High progesterone levels are believed to be partly responsible for symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), such as breast tenderness, feeling bloated, and mood swings.
Avatar n tn They are given generally prescribed orally and include Fosamax, Actonel and Boniva. They can cause some severe stomach distress as they did for my father. When this happens there are injectable forms of bisphosphonates. Ibandronate (Boniva injection) is injected into your vein once every three months, and zoledronic acid (Reclast) is injected once a year. If approved by your physician these treatments do not cause stomach distress and you do not have to remember to take a tablet.
974371 tn?1424653129 Thank you. Wish I had seen this yesterday as I had an appt. with my GI doctor who says it is IBS but does have me set up for a hydrogen (?) breath test in two weeks. There has been no blood detected in my urine which was checked in the ER twice recently. I have had stools checked, endoscopy and colonoscopy with biopsies. I see an Urologist today and will discuss this with her. I also read today that taking Vit E and Calcium can cause kidney stones.
Avatar n tn I have had very little problems with Prolia. I've done 4 injections over the past 2 years. Just a little bit of bone pain for the first 2 wks after the injection then, it goes away. That said, unfortunately, for me, my DEXA did not improve and my osteoporosis in my spine (the T-score) did not get better. Now, my doctor is sending me to a 'bone' clinic that apparently specializes in bone disorders such as osteoporosis.
719868 tn?1230422075 I'm on Sythroid 25mcg and Rocaltrol the orange and cream color pill. My Tsh is little low so they had to raise it .
Avatar f tn She started out with Fosamax, and after awhile when side effects start from that one, and Actonel was available, they put her on Actonel and she was on Actonel all the way up until it was stopped at 79. So, I have that in my mind (her being mom and my genes and all), and decided that I want to put off bone drugs as long as I can. If I can reverse this w/o them, than I'm going to.
Avatar n tn 5 years is the standard protocol, but your decision should be between you and your oncologist. I don't know the specifics of you or your cancer, but I can tell you that I'm premenopausal and was Stage 3 and the plan is to keep me on Tamoxifen for at least 10 years. Understand the side-effects aren't great, but a return of cancer that can be prevented would be worse, don't ya think? Doesn't guarantee cancer won't return, but it has been shown to help.
