I forgot to mention that I have broken my femur twice, 10 yrs apart, one time it was pinned, the second time it was fixed with a intermedullary nail.
i currnetly am taking actonel for my bones the past 3 years and klonopin i per night and take alot of vitamins such as B compex etc. no alcohol consumption but i do smoke half a pack of cigarettes per day no other medical conditions known 6 months ago all my blood workups were normal . ANY IDEAS WHAT CAN BE GOING ON WITH ME ?
I am 3 years post breast cancer i had lumpectomy chemo rads i have taken tamoxofen for 2,5 years now on aromasil i had a bone density scan and was told i had low calcuim levels, now on calcuim sandox and actonel asked if i had osetoprosis and was told no have read around actonel and have not taken it yet as of the side effects please can you advice thanks.
Not long ago a report was released about a possible link between these drugs and esophagal cancer - and also femur fractures because long term use of these drugs can actually cause brittle bones.
The new recommendation from doctors (including my new primary care) is to not use them more than 5 years.
Sorry to throw some scare out there - but I've spent 5 years reading all I can about osteoporosis, and those drugs would be the very last option for me. I stress, for "me".
I take once monthly Actonel. While I was pushing the pill through the foil blister, it broke. I did not take that pill for fear that it could cause stomach problems. My question is would it have been safe to take? Also, if I contact Proctor & Gamble, do you think they might replace the pill. If it was a daily pill, I wouldn't worry about, but I just lost a whole month of medicine due to a faulty package design.
Normally, the rod gets displaced due to normal wear and tear and remodeling of bone and pressure changes and forces acting on the rod. The risks associated with rod removal are: rod stuck in the bone, rod breaks during surgery, the bone breaks or infection is introduced or the bone becomes weak. Though not done in all cases, the rod may be cut, if there is no other option. However, before taking the decision to remove the rod, ask your doctor whether physiotherapy will help you or not.
when i was 14 i was hit by a car and fractured my pelvis, broke my femur and my jaw. i'm now 39 and i'm here to tell you, you WILL experience arthritis in the joints nearest the breaks. you don't have anythng much to worry about now, but when you reach your 30's you may have to start taking ibuprofen or naproxen or somethng to relieve pain. of course, since your break was in a small joint, you may not have much pain at all.
Sometimes older ladies can have osteoporosis, which is a weakening of the structure of bone, and that may have been why her femur disintegrated. Now, sometimes if a big bone breaks, if it damages a nearby artery, why, that can cause issues with how much blood and thus oxygen is getting to the brain. But if they did a scan and also if they are competent ER folks, they should know the difference between a stroke and a bleed-out in the leg.
) 2 different specialist both say two different things! and now july 2011 my breaks havent healed and recent CT scan shows no bone healing at all where my breaks are despite having fixtures in place and the specialists are baffled?? has anyone else had this problem or know what i can take to try help??
About 8 months ago I had a very serious surgery that left 4 screws in my pelvis and 4 screws in my femur and a rod in my femur, my leg was broken in 3 places and my pelvic ring was broken. I am pretty much fully recovered but I still find it hard to walk fast and for long periods of time, my knee starts to hurt. I was thinking taking the screws and rods out of my leg would help me walk better. How long do they have to stay in before I can have them taken out?
All lung cancers are different. Each person is different. Its whether or not a cell breaks away from the oringinal tumor and enters the blood stream and land somewhere else. I have heard of those with tumors the size of a softball not spread, yet my mom's was smaller than a pea and it went to her femur. You just don't know. A Pet Scan will determine whether or not it has spread. My thoughts and prayers are with you!
After about 5 months, my doctor told me the top of my femur was fully healed but the middle had stopped healing and he needed to go in and replace the rod with a bigger one to stimulate bone growth. While in surgery, the doctor also put cadaver bone chips by the break to make things stronger. Things were going okay, but my leg was still very weak (and I busted my butt in PT) when the doctor told me my femur again stopped healing.
This leads me to my 3rd surgery, just 4 weeks ago.
s femur measured normal, but humerus was 1 week and 2 days behind. At 34 weeks the humerus is 3 weeks behind and femur is 1 week and 6 days. The BPD measured 34 weeks. Face profile was normal. No other markers were assessed. An amniocentesis was offered, but we declined because I will be having a C-Section in 5 weeks and it takes 2 weeks to get the results. Everything I've found on the internet screams downs syndrome and I am a nervous wreck.
Had a chiropractor adjust my sacroilliac joint by way of femur and now i'm having extreme pain on both sacroilliac joints. I am wondering if it's possible to reverse the adjustment?
I contacted the doctor and here's what he wrote back...
That was actually an adjustment for the sacro-iliac joint (the femur is just used to position that joint where it needs to be for the adjustment). Also I adjusted your lumbar vertebrae.
I fractured my left femur and a compound open fracture of my right ankle and also fractured my left tibia. during therapy they told me in order for the femur break to heal I needed put all my weight on that fracture. after doing that an hour letter while getting out of the car the pain was so severe on my left thigh severe muscle spasm kept me in the car for over 2 hours. I took flexeral mussel relaxer which made the spam go away. For the femur ask for a device called a bone stimulator.
However, one more step to go and I fell forward landing on my left side and shattered left femur just below the femur ball that fits in the hip socket. After surgery went through a month of in-patient therapy and several months of in-home therapy. Was progressing but still experienced pain at point of shatter (not hip). Also noticed that my left leg was getting shorter (had extra sole added to left shoe twice and within a month or two limp returned).
