I take Aciphex, one 20 mg pill once a day. It mostly works for my GERD - without it it is unbearable. The problem I have is the terrible side effects. They are all gastrointestinal. I am miserable all the time. I feel like my food takes FOREVER to digest and move through my system! I feel like when I eat the food just "sits" there for such a long time. I feel constipated, but can "go" most days, though not completely.

Which, incidentally, stopped when I stopped taking the aciphex. Shortly after taking the aciphex I started experiencing symptoms of GERD. I still have the GERD to this day - some days its worse than others. I connect a straight line between the taking of aciphex and the development of GERD. Is this a reasonable conclusion? or is there some other more likely explanation?

I have been on Aciphex 20 since 2007, with instant results. After changing Health Ins. , I am told by the current insurer that they won't cover Aciphex. I must go thru a step program, starting with Nexium, which my Doctor dosed at 40 mg instead of 20 mg, saying Nexium didn't come in 20 and the 40mg of Nexium is comparable to the 20 mg Aciphex . Questions: (1) Is the above true? (2) Are the side effects the same, and (3) What's the difference between the two.

Went to my Dr and he put me on xanex,then paxil( which thankfully I got off and got thru the side effects. Now on zoloft and aciphex for Gerd. It has helped alot (the aciphex) but I still get those pains and when I do it just sends me over the edge. Dr says my lungs are clear.

Does anyone else have a problem where their doctor does not believe them when they tell them their PPIs are causing bad side effects for them? I've tried all of them and all caused extreme discomfort where I can hardly have a quality life. Prevacid was the least of all the evils but I still have extreme nausea and lightheadedness. I take the pill around 6 am every morning and the nausea tends to last till between noon and 2 pm.

my gerd cleared up , i healed up completely and i felt great .....no side effects . u should ask ur doc about aciphex ....... i tried everything and aciphex is the best ....... let me know what happens ....

Hi...both meds are PPI's and work the same...getting off either needs to be done with the help of ur Dr, u need to step off slowly ot avoid the rebound effect of this med. PPI's stop production of the acids, when u stop taking the meds, it flips the on switch and many times our system makes too much all at once and we feel the same as we did b4....this is y it is very important to slowly step off these meds and know u may have some GERD until ur body adjusts.

since the prilosec worked but gave me weird side effects my GI dr put me on Aciphex which works just as great and no weird side effects from it.

even when I did it was bad... slight burning to severe burning feeling on the left hand side of my mid upper chest area. I went back again to see the doctor who told me the coughing, wheezing [which now both had stopped... nearly completely] from the sinus infection is proobably the causes of it. He now prescribed AdipHex.... am I having some GERD like symptoms or the Hiatia Hernia? As this tends to be more severe in the dinner time than morning. Please advise..

Hi, I'm living with GERD for more than 6 years. I've done Endoscopy but no serious problem found on my stomach. My Doctor prescribed me Nexium 40mg a day for 2 months. I felt happy because the GERD is gone even the Acids, I didn't feel at all. After few weeks after stopping taking Nexium, the GERD started again and sometimes, heartburn and acids are attacking me again. Now, my question is, Is it ok to become dependent on Nexium? Like everyday, I must take 1 capsule?

I am also experiencing some stomach pain that goes up into my ribs on my left side.

My husband was originally on Aciphex, but placed on Nexium after our insurance stopped covering aciphex and he was miserable. Aciphex has always worked so much better for him. Finally, after a year of misery he's back on aciphex and so much happier. I hope it works as well for you.

I was on aciphex for years because of gerd but was switched to dexilant for gastritis. I have had the belching and gurgling for about 4 months and the upper stomach pain for almost 2 months. i am very regular with my bowel movements (once a day) so i dont see how it could be ibs.

well I am going to see my GI doc monday.. I have GERD and was taking AcipHex but had to stop when I found out I was pregnant.. so I am hoping it is just severe GERD related to that.. however, my lower back (flank, both sides) )is hurting more this morning, where the kidneys are.??? I am just wondering if the 2 can be related.. took pepto bismol last night and that seemed to help the stomach pain a little, but not completely... thanks for input!

I've been dealing with gerd issues for the last half year. Colonoscopy and endoscopy were negative. I did do a series of rolling barium stomach xray which did show my stomach was on a roller coaster ride. I've been on most of the meds for gerd, from Zantac to Nexium to Lansoprazole to Pantoprazole. In December I started to develope numbness in my left foot and right hand. (Last night I noticed my left anke was swollen.

I have been on reflux meds for the past 5yrs and have had numerous side effects from hyperhydrosis, a tremor in my hand (which I was on propranolol for about 1yr 9mths for), and most recently a tic has developed in my eyelids. The hydrosis has finally went away (4.5yrs later) and the hand tremor is minimal but my eyelids are going nuts. I am assuming its the drugs for reflux (I am having surgery for that soon). Does anyone know of anything else that would be causing this?

I was dx a few months back. Take advair twice a day (was taking singulair too, but it gave me a headache) & take aciphex daily for gerd. the aciphex has helped w/ the coughing some, but i still cough a good bit...sometimes to the point of dizziness. If I laugh, I cough. Any suggestions?

worsened IBS - bad abdominal cramps (caused by Nexium together with fever and Zantac) a white-coated and burning tongue (caused by Prevacid, Zantac, Protonix, Pepcid, Riopan). Other less serious but still annoying side effects (like a chronic cough) could also appear.

2 weeks ago had sudden nausea (never vomited) just nausea. It was intermittent. I have a history of GERD due to an ulcer 14 years ago...Been on prilosec, nexium aciphex, etc., ever since. My GP ordered an upper GI. All normal except MASSIVE GERD. He doubled my nexium to 2 a day. Also had a chest xray which was normal. He ordered abdominal blood work - all normal (gall bladder, liver, pancreas, etc) Still couldn't shake the intermittent nausea....

Hello Ghars, I too have GERD and Barretts Esoughagus and Asthma. You may need to get on daily meds for the GERD (Prilosec, Aciphex, etc.) and a daily inhaled steroid like Symbicort. Talk to your Dr.

I have had GERD for years. I went from Aciphex to Protonix and now Nexium. I have recently had a B-12 count toward the low level (but still in normal range) and am concerned that this is because of the medication. I also heard that the medication can cause stomach cancer. Is using the medication for so long safe? Is there a timframe for which it should be stopped? Also, I recently heard about Kapidex.

Hello. I was diagnosed with GERD several months ago, and lived with almost daily pain (no meds were really working) until about 2 months ago, when I started Nexium. I was blissfully almost with any symptoms for about 6 weeks, even if I ate common reflux triggers, but now I'm experiencing pain again. Can Nexium just stop working like that? I should add that my diagnosis came after basic blood tests, an endoscopy, an ultrasound to check my gallbladder and a CT scan of my abdomen.

I was diagnosed with mild esophagitis caused by GERD. I was put on Aciphex. I was also diagnosed with hiatal hernia during endoscopy. I already knew I had one because an upper GI series 6 years ago detected it. Even so, the doctor who performed the endoscopy, sent me to get another more current upper GI series. The results came back “no obvious hiatal hernia”, even though the endoscopy showed one and the upper GI series from 6 years ago did too.

I have gerd & svt and it seems everytime my gerd flairs up I tend to have heart palpitations , heart doc says not related, just wondering if anyone else has these symptoms.
