First, liver damage is not the same as HepC. You can have HepC without significant liver damage and you can have liver damage without HepC. Fatty Liver Disease can lead to significant liver damage for example. Secondly, it is possible to take necessary medication which can give your liver a work out but not necessarily do it major damage.

Had an endoscopy - showed gerd, slight irritation of esophagus, small hiatal hernia and stomach blisters and nodules which were removed and benign. Gastro changed me to aciphex once a day and reglan at night. This was 4 days ago....eating a little better but still have some bouts with nausea....will it take time for the new meds to work? Or could something else be going on to cause this....*by the wayk, i also had an ultra sound of abdominal area - all normal.

I connect a straight line between the taking of aciphex and the development of GERD. Is this a reasonable conclusion? or is there some other more likely explanation?

Clearly something changed after taking the antibiotics, and now your ally in heartburn control has become your enemy. It might be worth getting back to your physician on this one, since antibiotics can often be a "swinging door", killing some bacteria while making it easier for other bacteria to get through that otherwise wouldn't have.

I have for the past 10 years been on Aciphex 20mg for to much acid in my stomache, I was at 4 times the normal amount but now I have about 7 times to normal amount I have been taking 2 aciphex pills in the am and 1 in the evening. When I had my last scope I also had alot of irritation and alot of stomache polyps. I have latlely been having alot of diarreha about 2 hours after I eat and I'm generally not feeling well.

One year prior I was diagnosed with Barrett’s Disease. Biopsy revealed high grad dysplasia and I underwent and an esophagectomy. The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) removed one third of my esophagus and one third of my stomach. While at UAB they discovered I had HCV. I have been on acid reflux medication for over ten years--- Prylosec, Aciphex, Nexium at different times. All work well, preference was dictated by my HMO. This will be a life long treatment for me.

What is the best drug for these conditions? GI doc said Aciphex, another GI doc said omeprazole and that they all do the same thing. Patient says Dexilant is working best for him. Which should he take?

You have been extensively investigated for GI problems including Celiac disease and lactose intolerance. Acidity and gastric reflux can also cause similar symptoms and are often difficult to manage on medications. Try a combination of acid lowering drugs and life style changes. Avoid heavy meals and eat frequent small meals. Avoid too much of caffeine, tea, fried food and drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic fuzzy ones. Avoid heavy exercises within 4 hours of a heavy meal.

well I am going to see my GI doc monday.. I have GERD and was taking AcipHex but had to stop when I found out I was pregnant.. so I am hoping it is just severe GERD related to that.. however, my lower back (flank, both sides) )is hurting more this morning, where the kidneys are.??? I am just wondering if the 2 can be related.. took pepto bismol last night and that seemed to help the stomach pain a little, but not completely... thanks for input!

My husband was originally on Aciphex, but placed on Nexium after our insurance stopped covering aciphex and he was miserable. Aciphex has always worked so much better for him. Finally, after a year of misery he's back on aciphex and so much happier. I hope it works as well for you.

2008, she started taking prednisone, asacol and aciphex. She started to get better and had gained a little more than her 20 lbs that she had lost, within 2-3 months and at this time, she was off the prednisone. In Feb. 2009, she started I assume having flare ups again, but not only was she going to the bathroom, she was also throwing up and not really able to eat. t noticed much with the mouth but i will now be paying close attention. I have taken Prilosec, Nexium, Aciphex, and Prevacid up to twice a day at the max dosage. I recently had an eye exam but the doc just said i had dry eye and would need glasses when I hit my 50's. Not real helpful.

I am really trying to see if my sister's condition has anything to do with her being given this shot. Last time she was given it was April 2013, she is currently in the hospital fighting for her life!! So with all the warnings about if you have a liver disease you shouldn't be taking this shot and the doctors are advising her liver isn't functioning and for it to be as far gone as it is, if she had come to hospital a year ago they wouldn't have been able to do anything!!

I have actually been on some form of reflux med for a bit longer than 5yrs and started with Prilosec OTC, then prescription Prilosec, Nexium, Aciphex, and briefly Prevacid. These days I tend to take whatever I have in my medicine cabinet (Aciphex or Prevacid) twice a day, max dosage, and occasionally a tagamet to help out. I was going thru a bottle of vodka every 2 to 3 days. I started having discomfort in the liver area with nausea fatigue and dry mouth. Had an lft done all normal. Still felt sick and went to the hospital lft normal except elevated bilirubin ultrasound normal. Had another lft couple of weeks after bilrubin down to 1.3. And another normal ultrasound. My daughter has been diagnosed with liver disease. She had hep c but that is now under control. She has developed varies in the aesophagus and these are banded every three months. She now has frequent nose bleeds and would like to know the significance of this. She had a drug problem and she also continues to drink alcohol in large amounts. What is the likely outcome of this as she does not listen to what I have to say regarding not drinking.
