Common Questions and Answers about Zopiclone rebound insomnia

Avatar f tn It found that discontinuation of zopiclone caused significant rebound insomnia. Furthermore when midazolam taken for 7 nights was discontinued no rebound insomnia occurred suggesting that zopiclone may have even more significant problems of tolerance and dependence than the benzodiazepines. After 3 weeks of use mild to moderate rebound withdrawal symptoms appear upon discontinuation of zopiclone.
Avatar f tn This is something you should ask your doctor. Typically, you would want to taper off, but 14 days isn't too terribly long either. One thing I'll say is that you will very likely experience some rebound insomnia. That's common after being on any kind of sleep aid, Rx or not. Thankfully, your course of treatment was kept pretty short, so anything you do experience will be short lived. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Finished my RX Dec 26 and have been without it for about 7 days now. No tapering. Symptoms have included rebound insomnia, intense anxiety that runs through my body and stresses me out when night time approaches. Nausea. No appetite. Depressed. Anxious. Just saw my doctor and she gave me an RX for Zoloft (was on Trazadone but that stopped working). Also, back on zopiclone. 1x 7.5 MV tab for one month, then I will taper. Is this the right thing to do?
Avatar n tn Basically I mix trazodone and zopiclone because I was instructed to by the GP. When I needed to take more Zopiclone I first made sure there were no reported contraindications between it and trazodone anyway, and held back to two thirds the dosse of trazodone to part compensate for the increase in the other. I feel if anything, reporting that should hopefully clarify to anybody reading this that a mix of those two drugs is not of medical concern, as it was suggested by my GP.
Avatar n tn s usually for psychiatric indications instead of just insomnia. Also, the higher dose has not been shown to be more effective for insomnia than the 7.5mg dose. Also, this medication should not be used for more than 1 month. So, please discuss with your doctor regarding this. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn As for sleep, the problem with taking medication regularly for sleep as opposed the way AnxiousNoMore uses it as described is it makes the insomnia worse in the long run. This is called rebound insomnia. You want a more permanent solution if you can find one. Also know that withdrawal from drugs can cause insomnia, and it sounds like you've had your share of it. Also, snris such as Effexor can also cause liver disease, or how does your doc know it wasn't the Effexor?
Avatar m tn If these two drugs are cross tollerant will your physical addiction will just swap over and you'll go into withdrawl once you stop taking the zopiclone, even though zopiclone is not a benzo?
Avatar f tn Hi all, I have had sleep problems for the last 6 years. I started on zopiclone about 18 months ago which are great most of the time for getting me off to sleep, however I still wake up to 3 times during the night and wake in the morning feeling like i've had no sleep. I take 3.75mg as my normal dose, sometimes I take 7.5 and sometimes when i'm hyper (i'm bipolar) i take the max dose of 10.75mg. The thing is, as I'm still not getting a restful sleep very often, what do I do.
Avatar m tn I was taking 100mgs oxycodone a day for chronic back and knee pain, 900mgs gabapentin also for chronic pain, also 3(7.5mg) zopiclone at night to sleep and 1.5(7.5mg) during the day to sleep. I have stopped the oxycodone cold turkey with bad withdrawals, now at 13 days. My question is can I safely stop the zopiclone cold turkey or do I need to slowly taper off it?
1622896 tn?1562364967 Hi my GP is cutting down my zopiclone i dont want him to so i am asking is it going to be easy or hard ???????
Avatar m tn Diphenhydramine is good for making you drowsy, but it isn't your best bet to help you stay asleep, which is probably why you're still having troubles. Taking 3 will definitely give you a "hangover" the next morning, so I wouldn't recommend it. In fact most of the over-the-counter sleep aids are only effective at making you drowsy, which is all some people need. If these aren't enough for you, it might be an idea to looking into prescription sleep aids as a safety net.
Avatar m tn The biggest reason is because, depending on how long you would take one of these meds, you will have to deal with rebound insomnia when you stop taking them. The rebound insomnia is often bad enough that it makes the initial insomnia look like a walk in the park. Insomnia meds should be limited to the shortest course possible, to avoid dependency, and the rebound insomnia issues. That being said, I am a professional insomniac.
Avatar f tn I have tried many medications for anxiety/depression, over 40, nothing has worked. My psychiatrist and I have decided to only focus on sleep/insomnia. Well, I have tried zopiclone, clonazapam, which make me calm but still wont put me to sleep. The ONLY thing that has helped for the past two years is Amitriptlyne. It has been a life saver to finally be able to get a good night sleep for the first time in 25 years!
Avatar n tn August 2013. I know zopiclone is a non benzo "z class" drug. Question: in the category for benzo's in the UDS IS ZOPICLONE INCLUDED IN THIS CLASS.?

Avatar n tn Can I double my 7.5mg dose of apo-zopiclone in one night? Or will I over dose and die?

Avatar f tn There IS light at the end of the tunnel. Going into day 9 off subutex (congrats to YOU!) is very early yet. It takes approximately 21 days for ALL remnants of the sub to leave our bodies. Our central nervous systems have been altered for a LONG time and EVERYTHING is re-setting itself and healing. It's GREAT that you plan to swim and do yoga tomorrow. That will REALLY help! The more movement (any mild exercise) you can get will help speed things along.
Avatar f tn Yeah I'd like to be off altogether. The only thing that's getting me is that rebound insomnia. I switched to klonopin because of the shorter half life. I don't see the point of having Valium linger in my system for days only to address acute insomnia. I have kava tincture and phenibut. I understand phenibut acts as a gabapentinoid and may be useful for benzo rebound symptoms.
Avatar f tn s causing me high anxiety and not being able to sleep (insomnia) I started a week ago on 50mg now upped to 100mg 2 days ago iv had zopiclone on and off since June when all this anxiety started and now my doctor won't prescribe me any more but was just wondering if a benzo will help with the sleep issue until the sertraline kick in and work for me, iv been on sertraline in August for 3 week it worked for 5 days then bang high anxiety and I gave up on them so now I'm trying it for the 2n
Avatar f tn I never had depression this severe b4 the amitriptlyne. For the insomnia ive tried trazadone zopiclone seroquel clonazapam...havent gotten any sleep for the past 3 months. I cant think and my mind is constantly thinking i want to shoot myself. I can handle the body pains, the hot flashes, everything about the withdrawl except my mind going crazy. Anyways i dont have a long term plan. My constipation is actually going away after years due to stopping the drug.
Avatar f tn Trouble concentrating and insomnia would not readily bring anxiety to mind. Many things cause insomnia. Just treating the insomnia successfully may cure the inability to concentrate. Lack of sleep causes all kinds of problems. Without relieving the insomnia it may be impossible to diagnose you. I would start there.
Avatar n tn She has initial insomnia, which has not been countered by behavioural techniques. She is a smoker, ergo drugs which inhibit breathing are a no-go. Modern sedatives are ineffective (Zopiclone) and she has now been prescribed amitriptylene. Any suggestions?
