Avatar m tn b6 can cause alot more than depression. it can cause irreversible nerve damage. from personal experience, be careful how much you take. 100mg-200mg daily for me caused some very disturbing symptoms. numbness, tingling, pricks/pins/needles, shocks, buzzing/vibrating, muscle twitches, muscle weakness, severe fatigue, diziness, lighheadedness, anxiety, irritability etc. was diagnosed with b6 toxicity recently. beware of b6. it is a dangerous "water-soluble" vitamin.

Pyridoxal 5' phosphate (PLP) and pyridoxamine 5' phosphate (PMP) are the active coenzyme forms of vitamin B6 [1,2]. Substantial proportions of the naturally occurring pyridoxine in fruits, vegetables, and grains exist in glycosylated forms that exhibit reduced bioavailability.
Avatar f tn I recently had my vitamins and minerals checked and all were within range except for B6 which was 558 nmol/L (range 30-110 nmol/L). I was on a b complex (50mg b6) and multivitamin on and off for alot of last year just on days I felt a bit run down. When I got really ill last October I was pretty much taking my multi b (50mg b6) and multivitamin (25mg b6) every day up until I got my b6 result a couple of weeks ago.

Avatar f tn 7mm and 13mm. He took chemo: Folfox, Avastin, Oxaliplatin, and Xeloda until April 2008. The April CT scan revealed that the tumors had grown slightly and that there were four more small nodules visable. He discontinued Chemo and chose alternataive therapy with High Dose Vitamin C, and B17, changed his diet, and had some blood boosters. In August a new CT showed the good news that no new tumors were visable, but that the primary tumors were slightly larger.
Avatar f tn I have been reading the posts on Vitamin b6 toxicity. I started having the pins and needles 6 months ago. My neurologist did a B6 test and my B^ level was 1400. I take no vitamins with b6 in them only Calcium and B3. I checked to make sure there was no B6. Since then it has fluxuated with the lowest being 285. I had a blood test last week and it is back up to 1000. Do you have any ideas of what to do next. My neurologist suggested that maybe I should see a endrocronologist.
Avatar m tn B6 toxicity is nothing to fool around with, and remember, B6 is in balance with B12 and folic acid, so long-term use of just one of these will throw the others out of balance. I'd find another treatment plan.
Avatar m tn My body smply could not tolerate the drug and while taking Xeloda I lost more than one pound per day, snd had relentless nausea and terrible pain in my hands and feet. After one three-week cycle my doctor discontinued the Xeloda. I was able to complete treatment with the oxiliplatin. This was in 2004 and I am cancer free today. Ask your mother's doctor for something else. If possible she should not stop chemo until her doctor is certain no trace of cancer remains in her lymph system.

Avatar f tn Did you learn this from your doctor? Just wondering because one would think the doc would have something to say about this. If you look at the archives of MedHelp on this and other sites there are some very long threads about B6 neuropathy, which is the main concern some suffer when taking large amount of it. They generally speak of nerve pain, but there are other possible symptoms. Are you supplementing with it?
Avatar m tn Vitamin B6 is found naturally in our foods, however, B6 supplements are the main reason for toxicity of vitamin B6. Long term (2+ years) supplementation of 500-5,000mg/day will result in medical issues, such as neuropathy which maybe reversible with discontinuing the supplement and lowering high B6 foods. The recommended daily dose is 1.3mg for men & women ages 19-50 and 1.7 for men >50 years old.

Avatar m tn I have, too, been experiencing all of the symptoms. I stopped B6 (synthetic forms) about a month ago and my symptoms are getting WORSE. However, I've heard that that is possible. Now here is the tricky part -- does anyone else's symptoms exacerbate IMMENSELY after eating and then peak up in the afternoon?? Any insight is helpful, thanks!!
Avatar f tn There is a condition called B12 anemia. I don't think you're that low, but the way to do this is to eat better, for starters. If you're a vegetarian, that explains the B12 shortage -- it's found largely in animal food. And make sure your supplement is the methylcobalamin form, not the cyanocobalamin form -- the methyl form is much more absorbable. Also, taking a sublingual will absorb better and more quickly, and you can take a whole lot more than 50mcg.
Avatar n tn Saw a neurologist, had full MRIs, Echo, and blood work and the only thing that came up was high b6 at almost twice the upper limit. The thing is that most of my symptoms are on the right side of my body, so the neurologist is skeptical about the b6 toxicity diagnosis. The symptoms are: - right foot feels tingly and there is a strange nerve sensation on the outside of my right leg.
