Common Questions and Answers about What is marinol thc

marinol

Avatar m tn Marinol is legal in the US and is available by prescription. It is not real marijuana but man-made or synthetic THC. THC is one of the psychoactive components in marijuana; however real marijuana has other chemical componds that Marinol does not such as CBD (cannabinoid) that isn't very psychoactive but helps significantly reduce inflammation, relaxes muscles, and relieves pain. Marinol is typically prescribed to cancer patients to help with the pain, nausea, and to increase appetite.
Avatar m tn Medicare coverage depends on doctor's DIAGNOSIS which must be "cachexia related to cancer" along with dose not exceeding FDA label maximum for the diagnosis. I do not know the FDA rules. The "alternative" is just dronabinol, the generic name of marinol. Marinol is synthetic THC, an oil/liquid at room temp, but provided as gel tabs which must be kept refrigerated. Marinol is NOT the CBD discussed on TV for kids.
Avatar f tn Hi there, Welcome to the forum. Without researching, I really don't know what marinol is. I've not heard of it, sorry. Before I started taking a DMD I was worried about the side affects too, but seems there is always something to content with when you take a med. It's a very hard (was for me) personal decision to make and too a lot of weighing benefits to risks, etc. I respect your decision. How are you feeling symptom wise with your MS?
Avatar f tn Marinol is THC or "Medical" Marijuana. People with ADHD who use it are self medicating and (possibly) avoiding the issue of treating the real problem. I am sure that it makes them feel better. And there are probably "shops" out there that will "prescribe" it for you. As far as I know, no legit psychologist or psychiatrist would do so.
Avatar m tn I have been treated for Chronic pain post Cancers and therapies, and I am very tolerant to any Opiates. I would like to try using Marinol (synthetic THC) for pain; it helped my pain as well as my nausea when I went through my Stem-cell Transplant. I am in Athens, GA; does anyone know of a doctor willing to prescribe this medicine for pain (when you have not been diagnosed with a cancer...yet?
1162446 tn?1262804903 melissakay - yes, medical marijuana is available in pill form by the name of Marinol. It contains THC which is the active ingredient of the marijuana plant. Some people swear it only works for pain and/or nausea control when smoked and won't use the legal Marinol for that reason. I'll admit I tried smoking it myself years ago when I was vomiting several times a day from the worst bowel obstruction I've ever had. (Lost a couple feet of colon from that event.
Avatar f tn that was 10 months ago and shes worried about social serveses taking the baby if she has any thc leavals. she also says lactating mothers tend to hang on to thc . is this possible to still have traces of thc after 10 months or is she lieing?
Avatar f tn They are hard to find but typically the doctor you would visit to get your MMJ license renewed would prescribe the opioids or refer you to another doctor that is MMJ Friendly. Another option is for you to ask the doctor for a prescription for Marinol...it is synthetic THC. I should mention that when my mother was dying from cancer, she said that the Marinol wasn't helping her eat, it was only the real marijuana that helped but things may be different for you. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Your comments about how it's grown and where it's grown is what my husband's oncologist was talking about. It has to do with the molds, what was in the ground, weed killers, plant food, etc. He said there was no regulatory growing of it, and all the bad stuff the plants had access to remain in it and the smoking of it is processes through the liver as well as the lungs. He said it is common when he has a very strange growing cancer that the patient smoked a lot of pot.
Avatar n tn Marinol is legal in all 50 states from what I know, but is only available by prescription and is used almost exclusively for cancer patients. Medical marijuana is legal in 20 states and D.C. but not in Mississippi.
Avatar m tn I personally do not like to prescribe marinol unless necessary. To manage a condition effectively it is advised to treat the primary condition along with symptomatic treatment and pain control. I would suggest seeing an orthopedician and if required a pain management specialist for a detailed evaluation and suggestion of an appropriate management plan. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar m tn Marinol is just pharmaceutical MJ, and docs cannot prescribe it for w/ds. I agree with the others, ride it out. Anything you're feeling won't harm you....just just have to get through it. Wanting to turn to another drug to ease the w/ds from the first drug is how people stay stuck on the merry-go-round.
560501 tn?1383612740 I can not believe what you have just shared w/ us about what Law Enforcement is doing . This is TERRIBLE!!!!! if you have the Form.....I would fill that baby out and let it go from there! Yes! as we all (who have posted) agree that MM is Much, Much safer than all this other crap that we are on.......MM is definately NOT a "Gate Way" drug like society has pegged it to be! And, as you said....
163305 tn?1333668571 I say if it helps, it should be available, period! It cannot be any more dangerous than the side effects that other drugs do.
Avatar m tn There is a pretty large body of evidence from controlled scholarly studies that suggests heavy marijuana use increases hepatic fibrosis, too. What is disputed is the definition of ‘heavy’; would a puff or two now and then cause harm? And when they studied these pot smokers, where these folks concurrently using other substances such as alcohol that might skew results?
Avatar m tn You should do a niason flush and drink cranberry juice and drink lots and lots of water. If thc is showing up in your urine it will show up in your blood. Urine tests are less sensitive than blood tests. Thc is stored in your fat cells. If you have been smoking for years there is a lot of buildup so my advice is to go on a complete system flush and give it about a month.
Avatar n tn No offense to you whatsoever, but something just isn't adding up here. First of all...why are you asking about what would show up in a urine test? If you are getting the Xanax Rx'ed, then it shouldn't be a concern. Even for a job drug screen...unless you perform a job where use of that kind of med is absolutely prohibited....if you test + and have a valid current prescription, it isn't a problem.
Avatar m tn So I've heard THC is good for sleeping and I would like to try taking some oil for sleep. I've never taken THC ever in my life. I heard a story of a guy who smoked weed and caused him to have anxiety up to this point. I'm not sure if I'm being paranoid I just really don't wanna get worae. Is it worth trying? I experience anxiety and depression is it in my favor to help me?
Cat I am not sure if I understand the question. THC is the abbreviation for marijuana byproducts. Is this what you mean?
917763 tn?1311628896 There is an old thread around from years ago when I was on treatment I think and it had a study that coffee was actually good at helping fight fibrosis (i think that is what it said another old timer might remember). Boy once some of us heard that we were in HEAVEN.
