Common Questions and Answers about What is levoxyl used for

synthroid

Avatar f tn What is the difference between Levo & Synthroid? I was on 150mcg of Levo, but my new Endo swithced it to 175mcg Synthroid. My endo does not for some reason like Levothyroxine. I have been on Levo for 18yrs, NEVER, had issues with it. Just curious.
Avatar n tn My thyroid Peroxidase AB was very high at 715(what does this mean?), my free T4 is 1.3, my T3 is 115 and TSH ultrasensitive is .85. I currently take .75 of Levoxyl. My biggest complaint is weight gain.

Avatar n tn Hi, there is anyone else having to deal with this Levoxyl recall? I have had hypothyroidism for 18 years. Diagnosed with Hashimoto's 8 years ago. I was on levothyroxine 100 for many years and did great. Then something changed, Hashimoto's Dr.s said...Been on Levoxyl 75 for 4 years and have never felt good. Tried Armour, too much t3 for me, I swelled up on Sinthroid. I am ok on Levoxyl I guess but now they had to give me the generic because of the recall.
Avatar f tn TSH is a pituitary hormone that is affected by so many things that at best it is only an indicator, not a diagnostic, to be considered along with more important indicators such as symptoms, and also levels of the biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T4 and Free T3. If you were tested beyond TSH, please post results and reference ranges shown on the lab report. Also, please tell us more specifically about symptoms you have.
Avatar f tn Cytomel is strictly synthetic T3, and is used by the body in just a few hours. You would have to take it 4-6 times a day, and even then it would not be metered out evenly. You would have too much and then not enough every few hours. A small dose of Cytomel along with a lower dose of Levoxyl might be a better combination for you IF your Free T3 tests indicated the need.
Avatar n tn The Synthroid was about $20 for 30 days and Levoxyl is $14. The Synthroid coupon can be used for either 30 or 90 day supply. ($3 or $10, respectively) There is also a Levoxyl coupon. A free 30 day supply every 90 days, up to a max of 3 free rx's.
Avatar f tn The problem with thyroid meds is that they don't just affect you for one day. You have to build up a stable level in your system and see how that level affects your labs and your symptoms (if you have any). It takes four to five weeks to stabilize. Do you have your actual results for free T3, free T4 and TSH? We too often hear that everything is "normal" only to find inadequate testing was done or obsolete normal ranges used. It may be that you don't need the meds at all.
1139187 tn?1355706647 I have to also ask: The first thing you have to eliminate is wether or not you are a "normal" T4 to T3 converter?? If you are not converting T4 to T3 than there is NO T4 only med that's going to help you.. this comes from your labs.. What i found is that my TSH, FT4 ad FT3 are in perfect harmony.. If my TSH is high than my FT4 and FT3 are low.. When my TSH is low than my FT4 and FT3 are high.. This is "normal" circumstances and tells you that you are converting well...
Avatar f tn synthroid, levothroid and currently have been on levoxyl for over five years. Now that my thyroid is gone is there a preferred thyroid replacement that is best? My surgeon was going to switch me off of levoxyl after surgery, but I resisted and wanted to stay on the levoxyl. I figured my body would be going through enough changes and shock already. I'm experiencing almost steady heart palpitations and heart pounding, since surgery two weeks ago. Could this be related to thyroid med?
Avatar f tn this is known as off labeling...where a drug is intended for one purpose but used for another....in this case insomnia......
Avatar f tn Levoxyl is indeed a brand name levothyroxine, like Synthroid. It's the only brand my insurance covers, that's why I take it. It's works out best for me but the name has been a real pain. Now, before leaving the pharmacy counter I have to take my med out of the bag, read it and make sure it says 'Levoxyl - 112 mcg.
Avatar f tn The rule of thumb for FT4 is midrange, which would be 1.3 on your range (0.8-1.8). So, it looked best before the drop to only 62.5 on Sundays. The target for FT3 is upper half of the range, 3.25+ on your range (2.3-4.2). Yours looked pretty good just after adding the 5 mcg of Levoxyl, but it's dropped again significantly. Your TSH is suppressed, which often happens on thyroid meds. It's basically useless at this point and has to be ignored. However, your doctor is not ignoring it.
Avatar f tn I know Cytomel is supplement for T3 and stronger. If anyone has experiences with Cytomel, your input is greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn I have been back on Levoxyl after being off it for 8 months.I felt good at first but going in to my third week -not so good.I feel very tired, legs are wobbly and like jelly at times.I just feel blah and like passing out at times. Is it possible the dose is too high?My doctor put me on 88 mcg when I was previously on 75.tsh was over 26 but I hear it corrects pretty qiuickly when back on meds.Any input would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn Okay, I can't take it anymore. I'm so hungry all the time and I don't know what the deal is. I had a TT in December of 2007 so I'm 6 months out now on Synthroid 150 mcg. Just had bloodwork last week and TSH is .096. Doc is fine with it and says all my other levels are "normal." (I am having a copy sent to me.) I am a runner but I'm not running anymore than I was before and nothing in my diet has changed. But I feel famished all the time for the past few weeks.
Avatar f tn t been tested for the biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4 ) not the same as Total T3 and T4), then you should be sure to get that done, to see where your active thyroid hormone levels are. TSH is totally inadequate as a diagnostic for thyroid, even when coupled with your Total T4 result. Free T3 is the most important because it largely regulates metabolism and many other body functions.
Avatar f tn but I think I will push for the the switch to Levoxyl with either outcome. Thanks for following up with me that means a lot. Can you tell I'm anxious for an increase in meds...so ready to feel better.
616450 tn?1228433627 I feel like I'm hyper again since I've been on the Levoxyl. Right now I'm on 25 mcg and my TSH is 6.9. Is that really bad? I don't show any hypo symptoms at all. Like I said, I could swear I'm hyper again. The throbbing, painful feeling in my thyroid is back too--and that had disappeared after the RAI until I started on the Levoxyl almost five weeks ago.
Avatar f tn I have been on the drug since the end of January when my endo switched me from Synthroid to Levoxyl (125 mcg). For about 3-4 weeks now I have noticed that my blood pressure is higher than normal, 138/78, it used to be 110/70. I get heart palpitations and my chest feels like it is squezing in the front and the back. I discussed my symptoms with my endo and was sent for a chest CT to rule/out a PE. That came back fine.
Avatar n tn In contrast, I bought a 3 month (90 day) supply of Levoxyl for $27, with insurance sharing the cost. I took the first one this morning.
