What does macrobid treat

Common Questions and Answers about What does macrobid treat

macrobid

My doctor will not put me on the medications for IC even after I asked, he thinks my symptoms will settle down after a few more weeks or so. I filled my Macrobid prescription yesterday(it is a 3 day course my urologist gives me to fill when I think I need it) in hopes of some of the burning subsiding, no help. I just need to be pointed in a direction of help. Thanks.
Does anyone know what a UBO is on and MRI. I have suffered from fibromylgia with worsening symptoms over the past two years, so that I am unable to work. I have had several MRI scans, that show I have 9 UBOs. Evryone tells me that it is not MS, but the lesions look like what you se in MS. An MRA intially should some occlusion of the cerebral arteries and a reat was normal. I am 50 years old. In 1991 I had an MRI because I had migraines and I was told that I had one UBO.
The Nitrofurantoin, which is the generic for Macrobid, is what I used while pregnant, and it cleared my UTI up everytime. Vomiting and nausea is a side effect of the macrobid, and in the future, I would tell my doctor that it caused you to be sick. They can try something else and hopefully it won't make you feel so bad. Most common antibiotics used to treat UTI's are: Macrobid, Augmentin, Cipro, Amoxicillin, etc. It really depends on the type of bacteria that is present in the urinary tract.
I took macrobid as well. How long ago did u last take it and what are ur symptoms? Macrobid really messed me up.
This drug was replaced with Ambien. She also was prescribed Macrobid for the UTI. Macrobid doses are immediately followed by emesis for 3-4 hours with increased level of abd. pain. ( upper mid quadrant). I am concerned that the abdominal pain may be due to medication related exaserbation of irritated upper GI tract, and may result in vasculitic changes in her upper GI tract resulting in Behcets sx due to stress.
Since November 2007, he has had to be hospitalized at least 7 times with UTI's that require intravenous antibotics. He is allergic to Bactrum and Macrobid, so is very limited as to different oral meds he can take. He has Acute Urine Retention, has Parkinson's and is a diabetic. He has had a TURP, but has not improved his ability to empty his bladder. He has to do self-cathing several times daily, which is what is apparently causing the continuing problems with UTI's.
what should I do now? Should I treat it somehow? Should I do any tests? How it can react on the future pregnancy? Should my husband (the only sex partner I had all my life) get treatment or do tests?
I know that it would be hard for you to diagnose me through this forum, but Im hoping you can steer me in the right direction. Does this sound Neurological to you or more Urological? What would you recommend I do at this point? Should I go back to Urologist, find a new one, or seek another opinion from a different Neurologist? Thanks for any suggestions you can give me.

44:28: Hi I've posted questions before and have been impressed with your opinions, and appreciate your time. I've been having problems for about 5 months. Started with a UTI that lasted about 10 weeks, antibiotics didnt work. Primary sent me to a very well respected Urologist who diagnosed Nuerogenic Bladder. I was retaining about 600 cc after voiding. Started self-cath and am now up to about 8 per day, with goal of less than 500 cc per cath.
Does macrobid have an adverse effect on the liver?
The cultures grow a low yield of mixed gram positive flora, usually from a vaginal contaminant . It seems that just a week or two of antibiotics does not effectively treat your symptoms. If this is ultimately not a bacterial infection problem it may be Interstitial Cystitis (IC). Your history is typical for early IC where the symptoms are often confused with a recurrent UTIs, and some patients even respond to antibiotics, when they don't have an infection.
Neurogenic Bladder is from Not MS....now what?? posted by Diane M on October 07, 1998 at 12:44:59: Hi I've posted questions before and have been impressed with your opinions, and appreciate your time. I have been diagnosed with uti's and been treated with just about every antibiotic there is ( macrobid, levaquin, cipro, amixicllin and bactrim; which helps but i am allergic to it) , though I did see a urologist in 2003 and he put me on Macrobid for 2 months straight. It was the best time life because the symptoms actually stopped for about a month. Symptoms returned in December of 2003.
I had no symptoms of a UTI but was put on a 7 day course of Macrobid to treat a UTI. The next week the tests were the same but the WBC's were now 5-10 and "few" bacteria so the doctor said he would culture the urine sample. It came back "no growth" so he told me there was no need to take the antibiotics. This past Saturday, I passed a kidney stone. I have had them before and it was not painful.

Anyone here had a kidney infection before? What helps for pain? And how long does the pain normally last??
Thank you for visiting the family practice forum. First of all, you need to have an actual "culture" of the urine to determine exactly what bacteria is present. Once you know what bacteria is present you need to take the antibiotic until the urine test shows no evidence of infection and you have no symptoms.
The sweats are common in babs, and you have to take an anti malaria med. I haven't heard about Macrobid working but if it does, great. You need to stay on meds 8 weeks after you feel better. I have a nurse friend who has Lyme and works for a well known LLMD and she told me at least 2 years of treatment, since these bugs hide, making you think you are better only to come back and make it harder to kill.
You use different types of antibiotics (long time/high dose), but those of you who still have some pain left, than go on long term low dose antibiotics and seems to prefer Macrobid or Bactrim. Some of you get pain free by doing this. 3) Because of still having kidney pain, some of you combine long term low dose antibiotics with painkillers, and it looks as the majority prefer methadone. Is this a fair general conclusion? If not, I will appreciate your comments.
For months I was having symptoms of what I thought were reoccurring yeast infections. My symptoms would get better but then everytime I had sex w/my husband of 14 yrs. they would get worse again. I thought it was either a yeast infection or a UTI or a combo of both. I have a weak immune system and have had a medical history including a ureterocele and kidney damage so I didn't find it unusual that I was getting sick over and over again.
Hi guys, I did not get what I needed from the clinic, the Macrobid that he said to take until I could get in touch with GP on Monday, is not on the list of drugs to treat either one of these lttle bu**ers, my blood work starts on Monday, already have the requisition for it, my kidneys do hurt, but my temp is normal for me 36 so that is good I guess. Just so very tired and upset and depressed. \Went off Facebook too, because of all the negative stuff that I was getting from people....
The previous one did NOT get sent for culture (does anyone do their jobs right any more? Just curious). I have an antibiotic, but it's Macrobid...and guess what? You're not supposed to give that to people with NERVE DAMAGE. Do I have nerve damage? Oh, and it can cause "severe and sometimes fatal lung damage." Geez.
I do have a history of mononucleosis as a teen, pale stool following a GI infection in Central America 10 years ago (perhaps Hep A), and several uses of Macrobid antibiotic for UTIs (another document trigger of AIH). I also received the Hepatitis B vaccine during my early 20's as a healthcare worker. I am seeing a gastroenterologist Friday and a rheumatologist in 2 weeks at the request of my new internist.
Good Morning, Does anyone out there know of an endo in the Charlotte NC area? One who is more knowledgeable about thyroid , rather than being more of a diabetes doc. And preferably, one who won't say yes you might be a bit hypothyroid and then try to "educate" me on the dangers of "white foods". Completely blew me off.
About three days ago I was diagnosed with gonorrhea after my physician had me on flagyl/macrobid for 11 days to treat probable bacterial vaginosis I suppose until the std test came back. The unprotected sex took place about the last week in April, guy and I continued to talk up(had sex twice protected) until now upon my finding this out. He completely denies sex with any others other than a steady he broke up with in March time frame. He was the only one I slept with since December 04.
I was taken to the hospital where they told me I was dehydrated and had klebsiella in my urine. I took cefdinir and macrobid for 10 days. exactly a week after my antibiotics were gone..my fever spiked from 99-103 within an hour. the whole time I was on the antibiotics I felt as sick as I did the say I passed out 2 weeks prior. I went to the ER where they diagnosed me with c diff due to antibiotics. but, the way I'm feeling is how I have felt from the beginning.
I am just getting over a bad UTI, still on Macrobid...Dr. called today and said that my HPV virus that I found out I had less than a year ago has gotten one step worse since being pregnant and they need to do a colposcopy!! I am so scared and worried. Have any of you gone through this??? She said they won't do a biopsy while I'm pregnant, but I'm worried about all of this!! Has anyone gone through this? What was the outcome? My Dr.
I normally have a moment of feeling extra wet once in a while, where I leak a little more discharge, and it's usually EWCM. I can see it on the pantilier, so I know what it is...but this looks more like it was watery, and it went from one end of the pantiliner to the other, I'm surprised because I didn't feel it all over it I just saw it...the discharge in it was a yellowish/almost light brown color...
-( (not cool since 4/5 of her daughters have thyroid cancer). Anyway, with all that in mind, last year with my cancer recurrance, I was getting the flu or a cold every 3-4 weeks and was tired of it. I finally gave in and tried some zinc lozenges (Zicam was the brand I tried but there are others too) that she forced on me. I was shocked.
