What does macrobid treat

Common Questions and Answers about What does macrobid treat

macrobid

My doctor will not put me on the medications for IC even after I asked, he thinks my symptoms will settle down after a few more weeks or so. I filled my Macrobid prescription yesterday(it is a 3 day course my urologist gives me to fill when I think I need it) in hopes of some of the burning subsiding, no help. I just need to be pointed in a direction of help. Thanks.
UTIs are common during pregnancy but can cause serious problems if not treated immediately. I had UTI during my first trimester, was prescribed Macrobid, and it was gone in a couple days. Best wishes!
What medicines have you taken for your urinary problems and/or infections? Have you taken cipro or levaquin? What other drugs have you taken for your other health issues? Are you exposed to toxics at work or enjoying your hobbies? Some drugs for rheumatic diseases, many antibiotics (cipro, levaquin, nitrofurantoin-macrobid), antimalarials (lariam) and other drugs cause all your symptoms and more, so it is always recommended to rule out that causes.
along with a few other symptoms. Concentration is difficult again. Not understanding what people are saying, is embarrassing to me again. I'm still taking Flagyl (which I love! Haven't slept so good in years), Cipro & Macrobid (Nitrofur). When I switched from Levaquin to Cipro, I began feeling much better, which has continued for a few months, until last week. This is the month the largest bullseye rash always came out (covered the back of my thigh). I usually had one show up, 4 times/yr.
It really depends on the type of bacteria that is present in the urinary tract. In general, Macrobid (Nitrofurantoin), is used specifically to treat UTI's. Holding your urine too long can cause you to have a UTI or urethritis. Also, having the urge to urinate frequently can be a sign of overactive bladder or a UTI. If you are frequently passing small amounts of urine, then it is possible it could be a UTI. You can have an infection and not have the "classic" symptoms.
I had a SAH last May. About three days later had a UTI probably from the catheter. I also had a C&S that revealed e. coli and pseudomonas. I took a round of macrobid, cipro, bacterim, and another round of macrobid. With this round my urine came out clean. A month or two later I started having some crampy like pain that I have on occasion. Dr. said it was my bladder and that I needed to see a urologist and more than likely the diagnosis would be IC.
first i want to say thank you to the ladies that gave me the courage to make the doctor do a ultrasound today...so i gotto the doctors office and i told them what was going on and they took me back and at first they were acting like what ever but then i was crying and upset and i said"look i dont want to be mean but something is wrong i know it and i can feel it"so then they acted concerned well my fave doctor came in and he checked and said 1 yeast infection...2 uti...
3rd UTI Oct positive for ecoli over 100000 was resistant to alot of meds so puton macrobid 7 days. Within 48 hours of stopping macrobid symptoms came back culture showed ecoli again and same macrobid for 7 days. Then symptoms returned and again ecoli put inpt on imipenem for 10 IV doses and dc with macrobid for 7 days. Then culture positive for ecoli again now ESBL. No UA has ever shown WBCs but cultures grow bacteria and frequency, urgency, nocturia and burning present.
I am concerned that the abdominal pain may be due to medication related exaserbation of irritated upper GI tract, and may result in vasculitic changes in her upper GI tract resulting in Behcets sx due to stress. What can we do to diagnose, treat and manage this during the course of the pregnancy? She has been unable to work for 2 weeks and must return soon. She is allergic to PCN, EES, Sulfa and Vicodin. She smokes 1-2 cigarettes daily and is planning to stop within a week.
After three days on the Macrobid the symptoms were worsening (in the past, Macrobid had always cleared up my UTIs -- I had several asymptomatic UTIs while pregnant). I went back and she said the culture showed no infection. She mentioned that I might have interstitial cystitis. She was waiting to get the results of the scan before treating me for IC. She was to call me today to let me know if I should fill a presciption she gave me for IC.
My bladder feels funny, like its just floating there, and i always know its there. I have been diagnosed with uti's and been treated with just about every antibiotic there is ( macrobid, levaquin, cipro, amixicllin and bactrim; which helps but i am allergic to it) , though I did see a urologist in 2003 and he put me on Macrobid for 2 months straight. It was the best time life because the symptoms actually stopped for about a month. Symptoms returned in December of 2003.
I did not do a Cysto/Hydro, but I did have a cystoscopy in the office where the urologist said she saw urethral polyps, but that they were not the type of polyps that are removed, but are treated with long term antibiotics. So I was given Macrobid, and Urised. I did this for three months and have seen no improvement. Can you explain more about these types of polyps because I still don't understand quite what this is. My symptoms are mostly frequency, and hesitancy, and urethral burning.
I am 32 years old and I have had since the age of 16 five cystitis episodes that were ate successfully treated with antibiotics. I do not smoke or drink coffee, tea, or alcohol. Back in mid-April of 2006, as I was mowing my lawn that was full of weeds, I felt a burning sensation in my urethra. I had started urinating frequently after a few hours. it was bad at certain days and it was normal on other days. I did not experience the regular burning, pain in bladder and fever.
ER said it was kidney infection..high fever, back and flank pain, hard to self cath. Started macrobid. Three days later my doctor says culture came back negative, so I went off antibiotic. Still have fever and lots of pain. When Urologist diagnosed neurogenic bladder she sent me back to Primary doc saying she couldnt help because it is a neurological problem. She speculated that I have MS, and I started having tests to find out.

44:28: Hi I've posted questions before and have been impressed with your opinions, and appreciate your time. I've been having problems for about 5 months. Started with a UTI that lasted about 10 weeks, antibiotics didnt work. Primary sent me to a very well respected Urologist who diagnosed Nuerogenic Bladder. I was retaining about 600 cc after voiding. Started self-cath and am now up to about 8 per day, with goal of less than 500 cc per cath.
I too took Macrobid, and am now having symptoms like this months later. Can you plz tell me when u last took Macrobid & what are your lingering symptoms. Thank you. I hope to hear from you.
This time I've been on since 9 weeks.
Does macrobid have an adverse effect on the liver?
Since November 2007, he has had to be hospitalized at least 7 times with UTI's that require intravenous antibotics. He is allergic to Bactrum and Macrobid, so is very limited as to different oral meds he can take. He has Acute Urine Retention, has Parkinson's and is a diabetic. He has had a TURP, but has not improved his ability to empty his bladder. He has to do self-cathing several times daily, which is what is apparently causing the continuing problems with UTI's.
what should I do now? Should I treat it somehow? Should I do any tests? How it can react on the future pregnancy? Should my husband (the only sex partner I had all my life) get treatment or do tests?
It seems that just a week or two of antibiotics does not effectively treat your symptoms. If this is ultimately not a bacterial infection problem it may be Interstitial Cystitis (IC). Your history is typical for early IC where the symptoms are often confused with a recurrent UTIs, and some patients even respond to antibiotics, when they don't have an infection. Early IC symptoms can wax and wane spontaneously.
I know that it would be hard for you to diagnose me through this forum, but Im hoping you can steer me in the right direction. Does this sound Neurological to you or more Urological? What would you recommend I do at this point? Should I go back to Urologist, find a new one, or seek another opinion from a different Neurologist? Thanks for any suggestions you can give me. Diane Dear Diane: I believe it is critically important to get to the cause of the neurogenic bladder.
Sorry to repeat the question however,I was curious to know what disease could macrobid touch.? I did some reading (unfortuntatly),It does list chalmidia as a std that is a factor when having reactive arthritis. What are other std that influence this disease?I thank you for you valuable time.
so i had a bladder infection about 3 weeks ago and was treated with macrobid (150mg) originally. That dosage made me sick and i possessed almost all of the side effects. Therefore i went back to the doctor and they prescribed amoxocillan (150mg) since it usually takes with the infections i get. Thats what they've treated me with since i was a kid and it always worked.
Mine took me off it when I got achilles heel pain. I guess it is a balancing act...treating a disease that needs to be treated vs, suffering the side effects. This will be my topic of conversation at my next appointment re: kidneys vs resuming treatment. Sigh.
Thank you for visiting the family practice forum. First of all, you need to have an actual "culture" of the urine to determine exactly what bacteria is present. Once you know what bacteria is present you need to take the antibiotic until the urine test shows no evidence of infection and you have no symptoms.
Anyone here had a kidney infection before? What helps for pain? And how long does the pain normally last??
